Texans random thought of the day

Point spreads for every 2017 Houston Texans game
By Matt Young
Updated 9:15 am, Tuesday, May 30, 2017

The betting line for the first 16 weeks of the NFL season already are out.

Although it's too early for most sportsbooks, CG Technology has released point spreads for every game in the first 16 weeks of the upcoming NFL season.

Most sportsbooks only have released betting lines for the first week - everyone has the Texans as a 4- or 4 1/2-point favorite over the Jaguars in Week 1. But CG Technology, a Las Vegas based sportsbook operator, went ahead and put out spreads for every game except in the final week, since there's a greater risk of some teams resting their players in Week 17 in anticipation for the playoffs.

The Texans are favored in nine of their first 15 games with the biggest point spread being a 9.5-point favorite over the Browns in Week 6 at NRG Stadium.

Browse through the photos in the article title link above for a look at the point spread in every Houston Texans game in the 2017 season.

  1. #Texans were the only team to work out WR Keith Mumphery in ’15. But I’ve reached out to scouts with several teams and no one knew his past.

#Texans say they are gathering information & have no further comment on their 175th pick. This info was not public until today.

So according to CnD's chart above, Savage gets hurt fairly early in the season? Or the Texans are 2-5 at the break.....:kubepalm:

Oh, good! Finally, not a choir boy. :trophy:

Sio Moore ILB FA has worked out for the Texans and is being considered for a spot per Aaron Wilson. He was placed on IR in Dec 2014 for a very severe labral hip injury which reequired major reconstruction his hip. He didn't play again until Week 3 of 2015 and and soon after suffered a hamstring injuury which was an issue the rest of the season. Since then he has been a very unimpressive journeyman in the league mostly playing STs with sparse ILB. His 2016 stint with the Colts when he did play at ILB was rated terrible by PFF last year for pass coverage.

The Texans are signing both ILB Sio Moore and WR Dres Anderson. Anderson went undrafted in 2015 after sustaining a meniscus injury that required surgery and an end to his senior collegiate year. His frame also had NFL teams shy away. He has been only on PSs since.

Camp bodies. Shouldn't take valuable reps away from our young players at those positions that need the work!

why do I feel so many of team doctors evaluation of players are toss dart at a chart?
I'm don't think that Houston's medical is quite as inept as it sometimes appears to be. Like everything else their decisions, advice and suggestions are also evaluated by the Cogen Boardroom. Due to Bob McNair's "Win Now" attitude I imagine that some of the medical advice and suggestions are overridden too. This would certainly fit within McNair's modus operandi.

Sio Moore is not a player that lives football. A player being able to brag about his 96 pairs of pajamas rather than his play is not really the type of player I think we need on the Texans D. From an "entertaining" 2015 article:

Sio Moore saga more complex than first glance will show

Sio Moore is a man of many faces.

Recently traded to the Colts for a sixth-round pick, Moore was going through a relatively longstanding rift with Oakland’s new coaches.

A large part of that is understandable, especially for a linebacker such as Moore. There’s a lot of things the general public doesn’t know about Moore, some of them mundane details, but likely interesting nonetheless.

Part of the rift may have originated long before head coach Jack Del Rio and defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. arrived with the Raiders.

A lot of it was going on when Jason Tarver was defensive coordinator.

Moore could be seen in the locker room knocking some tunes on a microscopic, yet powerful, speaker that he’d leave connected to his phone.

This happening while other linebackers were in team meetings. It was so common that it’s hard to believe it was without Tarver’s permission. This is a simple presumption, and Sio nor Tarver are with the Raiders anymore.

But it’s the only logical explanation for why Moore would be in the locker room during these times, while other’s were in meeting rooms.

I also have extreme trouble believing that Moore would still be starting a few days after bailing from a team meeting while other linebackers were there. There’s no way that would go down in any NFL organization. He must have been excused.

It also doesn’t make sense that he would be retained by McKenzie for that long, unless Tarver allowed it. It really doesn’t make sense because Moore had been playing at a decent level, with lots of promise for his football future.

That’s the conclusion I draw from the ultimate departure of Moore, and how it seemed. But there are more details, that don’t necessarily matter in the big picture, but that Moore and the team are best served with the knowledge of the public:

1. Moore would arrive, and leave, wearing pajama pants. While players like James Jones preferred track suits, and others such as Khalil Mack usually dressed in jeans and a polo, Moore came to work like he had just rolled out of bed.

2. Moore displayed what I interpreted as narcissistic tendencies, often the result of suppressed depression. I believe that Moore had trouble fitting in with crowds early in life, and throughout his life, though he’d never mentioned it before. He was comfortable with one-on-one interviews when we spoke, but never in a gaggle.

3. He remained confident in his teammates throughout two very bad seasons. His fiery personality never seemed to spill over in a bad manner within the Raiders locker room.

4. An example of this, sometime late in the 2014 season, Moore found himself in disagreement with the rest of his nearby lockermates. He was the only player who considered Walter Payton the greatest running back of all time. The rest, including myself in this particular instance, opined that Barry Sanders gets the crown.

5. Other names mentioned include Emmitt Smith (who was faulted for having a premier offensive line), O.J. Simpson, and Jim Brown. It’s unfair, really, to crown Sanders with all this greatness. But Moore loves him some ‘Sweetness.’

Moore got along with the fellas, and was typically in the middle of it all when jokes were being flung around. He is a happy-go-lucky person. And Stevie Wonder could see that.

6. Moore was always the most energetic player on the Raiders practice field, or in the locker room. The guy couldn’t stop moving. Call it attention deficit disorder, call it being outworked and simply less tired. It’s tough to deny that he’d help pick up others when they were tired. There’s no questioning that.

Moore carried qualities that were very unique, particularly when discussing an NFL linebacker. He was much more little kid than he was grown man, and it showed in his demeanor.

In most settings, that’s welcomed. But entering the third year of his professional career, and with incoming coaches tasked with winning immediately, he just didn’t fit well enough. Factor in major hip surgery, and no promise that he’d return to his old form, and that’s not going to work.

He also called a reporter a loser on Twitter for tweeting he was back on Twitter. As a fan favorite tweeter, and a fan favorite on Sunday, Moore should have known the reporter meant no harm.

Especially with an understanding that he was in the doghouse. He earned everything he got. That includes his meager by NFL standards third round rookie paycheck, his time in the doghouse, and his trade.

Frankly, it worked out for him. As much as Raiders fans might not want to acknowledge it, he’s on a team looking at the Super Bowl before the season starts.

It’s not too far-fetched to consider a healthy and productive Moore the missing piece to a Colts team that desperately lacks defense to be a true contender.

He’s earned that, too. But if he wants to continue a road like that, and the potential of being a highly coveted free agent, he’s going to have to mature some. Maybe a lot.

He’ll have to unplug his phone from the portable speaker, and change his life’s tune.

The problem with that conclusion is that ultimately, we as physicians/surgeons are pledged to "First do no harm." That means you do not knowingly allow your actions directly or indirectly to harm your patients.

Jesus Christ I can't wait for the pre-season to start. I'm tired of the BS politics in NSZ, tired of discussing Texans crap we can only speculate on, and upset no one loves the same TV shows as I do. Not to even mention the "other" distractions we've had around here lately. :smiliepalm:

Previous 2 seasons he was at 58% and 60%. I wonder what could possibly have happened last year that would have been different the previous two years? Let me think, let me think...
If you think Hopkins only issue was Os then you were not watching games I was. We need to get real with evaluations. Of course we had QB issues and Oline and..but Nuk was not same guy he has been. Was he ticked over $ issue? I don't know but he missed passes he should have caught. That's why I hope they hold up extension until we see how Nuk does with QBs this season. He earns $ 8 million this season which is the way establishing rookie deals NFL and the players union agreed to. His "new deal" is in his hands and right where he should want it to be. Play hard and he will get paid; Texans have taken care of their own unless it is stupid money like Bouye got from Jags (5 for 67.5). Hopkins has no competition threat money wise as both Strong and Fuller tied into two and five years at super cheap dollars for WRs. Mumphrey got canned. Hopkins needs to go "hmm..lots of cap [$30 m+ 2017 & $40+ 2018 minimum]."
Probably posted elsewhere but compare:

Deandre Hopkins 6'1" 218 24 yoa Texans round 1 2016 stats 16 g 78/954 @ 12.2 4 TDs NFL 4 years

1. extended Jan 2017 four years $68 m 19 guaranteed bonus first new year 2018 & roster bonus $6 m
2017 cap $ 13.7
2. 2017 cap $ 7.9 m

I posted some time ago 5 years for $75 m (15 per avg) 29 years old at end or 6 for $100 m 30 yoa (17 per avg). Up front guarantee is debatable but roster bonus annually is way to go IMO. Example $25 signing + roster bonus for 4 years (28 yoa) 2018 thru 2022 depending on previous season's production.

I definitely agree, however it is usually the bad experiences we remember in life not so much the good ones or divorce rates would be lower. LOL

Slow offseason:

Tom Savage focused on communication with his receivers
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-focused-on-communication-with-his-receivers/

The Texans didn’t waver from their assertions that Tom Savage is their No. 1 quarterback after trading up to draft Deshaun Watson in the first round of this year’s draft and the team’s OTA practices have backed up Savage’s spot on the depth chart.

Savage has been getting the majority of first-team reps as the team gets ready for the coming season and is taking steps to take further ownership of the offense. Savage hasn’t had this kind of offseason time as a starter in the past and says that it’s beneficial to getting everyone pointed in the same direction.

“When you’re a third-string quarterback, you’re not really going up to DeAndre Hopkins and telling him how you want a bow route or something,” Savage said, via ESPN.com. “Now, communication comes in and you have to be on the same page with all of them. That’s what we’re working on now. … Just repetition and stuff we’re doing after practice and extra meetings. We get a limited time and we all have to meet extra a little bit after if we want to get better. That’s what it comes down to.”

Savage has a couple more weeks to work with the entire team before the offseason program comes to an end. Training camp and the preseason will then provide a view into how well the unit has come together and how much the quarterback has solidified his spot at the top of the depth chart.

Demaryius Thomas catch rate with Os was well below his norm. And in the same season with Peyton, Thomas' catch rate was pretty good. That's how bad Os is.

So I'm going to give Nuk a big benefit of doubt here.

oh I agree and benefit of doubt + caution gives him 8 games this year then reward or trade/allow him to leave. As I said, his extension is in his own hands. I want him here but not at 954 yards. Os is gone

Watching the NFLN today, they showed Tom Brady at minicamp and he looked to have some right shoulder discomfort throwing easy passes. Would you trade for Brady in 2018 if he was available? The Patriots have some hard decisions to make at QB in the future. I wouldn't be surprise, at all, if BB cut or traded Brady in order to keep Jimmy G. Brissett being the Matt Cassel trade bait of the future.

I saw Brady showing discomfort after throwing easy passes. I deduced, from the fact that Brady has thrown a butt ton of passes in his career, that Brady might be developing shoulder issues and could be available for the Texans, ala Manning, in 2018. Would you take the chance?
