VP of Football Ops?Coughlin to be the jags executive VP of football operations
Rumor is Marrone will be their new coach

VP of Football Ops?
Is that the functional GM or the coach of the coaching staff??
Classy statement.
Agreed. Classy, but a little over the top, IMO. I'm just glad he's getting out before he had another stroke. I would get nervous watching him on the sidelines since that happened.
I hope he has a long and healthy retirement.
So "the deflator" would work directly for him?He purchases the footballs, takes them out for walks, keeps them properly under fed, moisturizes them, etc. They used to call it Tribble Herder.
Report: Denver Broncos expected to offer head coaching position to Vance Joseph

I don't think they can until the Falcons are eliminated.Have they already interviewed Shanahan?
Yes. They were able to interview him during Atlanta's bye week - they just wouldn't be able to actually hire him until Atlanta's season is over.Have they already interviewed Shanahan?
And switching gears sport-wise, don't forget that Dwight Howard was going to meet again with the Lakers and give them a chance to meet or beat the Rockets offer. But the Broncos are absolutely, definitely, without a doubt going to hire Diet Shanny.
And Bill O'Brien was absolutely, definitely, without a doubt going to draft Christian Hackenberg.
And Jimbo Fisher was absolutely, definitely, without a doubt going to go to LSU.
Sometimes, sooommmetiiimmmes these relationships are a wee bit overrated.
Thanks. Totally brain-farted on the bye week.Yes. They were able to interview him during Atlanta's bye week - they just wouldn't be able to actually hire him until Atlanta's season is over.

Interesting to see what (if anything) this does to Wade's situation. Was he the DC here when Joseph was hired to coach DB's?Broncos make it official, hire Vance Joseph as head coach

One would think that he wouldn't mess with a good thing. Unless maybe wades comtract is up, but still...
Veteran defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ contract is set to expire soon after this season ends, opening the possibility he could be coaching elsewhere in 2017, people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.
Phillips agreed to join the Broncos on a two-year contract in late January 2015. The sides discussed an extension after Phillips’ top-ranked defense drove Denver’s Super Bowl title run last season, but they never agreed to terms, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because contract matters were to remain private.
He was. Rumor though, Vance wants to bring one of his guys from Miami as his DC.

As expected. Seems like some teams got cold feet and didn't want to wait until Atlanta's season was over. They basically delivered him to SF.
I don't think it's the best fit for a first time HC. Little talent and terrible FO makes for an early firing.
They could now be eyeing Reuben Foster in the draft and are in a position to get him.Best wishes to the young man.........he's made the only correct decision (or should I say the decision has basically been made for him). If there is an injury/fracture at the C1 level because of the congenital deformity that was fortuitously discovered on an MRI that was just looking for a herniated disc, the injury would likely result in loss of life (breathing ceases with a severe spinal cord injury at that level). Again, a lucky young man with a new lease on life.

Zach Orr retires due to congenital neck/spine condition

The Ravens are losing one of their best young defensive players to retirement.
Linebacker Zach Orr is hanging it up at the age of 24 because of a congenital neck/spine condition, the Ravens announced Friday. The Ravens met with Orr to make sure he was completely certain of his decision to retire once they found out about his intentions, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Speaking at a news conference, Orr said he was "kind of forced to walk away" after an MRI for a herniated disc revealed the neck/spine condition.
"I'm blessed and thankful that I'm able to walk away from the game in good health," Orr said.
Orr's agent, Rob Sheets, said neck specialist Andrew Dossett informed Orr two weeks ago of his condition. Dossett told Orr his C1 vertebra was only 80 percent formed and that he would be unable to pass a physical to play football again, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported.
"(Dossett) hadn't even closed the door, and Zach turned to me and said, 'Are you going to be OK?'" Sheets said, per Garafolo. "The kid was about to get the most traumatic information he'd receive in his life and the first thought he had was for his agent, not himself. If that doesn't speak to the character of the man, I don't know what does."
In addition to his ailing neck, Garafolo added that Orr "was playing with a cracked bone in his shoulder late in the season." He missed the team's final game of the season with what the team deemed a neck issue. He was placed on injured reserve.
It's fair to say the Ravens were surprised by Orr's retirement.
"When I got the news about Zach, I had to do a double take because I never expected to hear something like that," general manager Ozzie Newsome said via the team's official website. "I don't think there has been any player that has been more inspirational to me over the last three years than Zach."
The former undrafted free agent appeared ready to continue Baltimore's legacy of do-everything linebackers. In 2016, he led the team with 130 tackles and was second on the team with three interceptions. It was his first season as a full-time NFL starter after playing sparingly his first two seasons.
Alongside first-round pick C.J. Mosley, the pair made up one of the more promising young positional groups in the NFL. The Ravens were fifth against the run in 2016, ninth in points and seventh in total yards.
Orr was named a second-team All-Pro this season.
As Rapoport mentioned on Good Morning Football Friday, this was something the Ravens knew was coming, though it did not make it easier to plan around. Orr was viewed as one of the franchise's bright young stars. Though he was entering restricted free agency this offseason, a significant pay day was likely around the corner.
The Ravens already had some patchwork upgrades to make on their defense this offseason and Friday's news simply adds to the degree of difficulty. Replacing a linebacker with that kind of production is no small task.

Indy is rethinking Chuck Pagano, preparing huge offer for Kyle Shanahan. Period.
Don't think so. Reports are 49ers plan to interview him this coming week. So I ask as a potential new head coach do you take the job with Andrew Luck as your QB or Colin Kaepernick as your QB?Has Lil Shan not signed already with 49ers?
I'm not sure that Andrew Luck isn't damaged goods at this point. Nor am I sure that Shanahan would be stuck with Kaepernick (or Lewis or Gabbert or Ponder)Don't think so.
