NFL Random Thought of the Day

Oakland down to their QB3 now. McGloin has a shoulder/collar bone injury. Can't lift his left arm. Looks to be in pain.

Never had it. What am I missing?

English Bacon is cut from the loin back of the pig, similar to that of Canadian but with the added fat surrounding the meat. English bacon is often smoked or cured, again similar to that of Canadian, but to a greater extent. Bacon in the UK also comes in a form similar to American, but is actually referred to as “streaky bacon” and is less common.

I love it. But it's hard to find over here.
I've checked on-line and it ain't cheap. But good stuff rarely is.

I would think it would only be found in European markets which are
scarce but I've found bacon from Ireland as well as Irish brand butter
which was really good

so I am sure this can be found as well

Dimitroff has done pretty well

Pioli added a lot of the talent currently on the chiefs.
Pioli got run out of town (KC) on a rail. Reviews on Dimitrioff are mixed, especially after the Julio Jones trade. The difference maker in Atlanta today is Dan Quinn. Before Quinn arrived Atlanta was basking in a sea of mediocrity.

Christian Hackenberg getting brutalized by the bottom line this morning

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Christian Hackenberg still hasn't taken a snap as the Jets quarterback, but he handled his first media firestorm without flinching at all.

The still unused second-rounder brushed off an ESPN report from Sunday that quoted an anonymous Jets coach saying Hackenberg regressed during his "redshirt" season and was so inaccurate that he "couldn't hit the ocean." Todd Bowles insisted that assessment was "not at all" true.

Hackenberg wasn't bothered by it regardless.

"I really don't have any opinion on it," he said. "A coach has never come up and said anything to me directly, so until he does that I'm really not too concerned about it."

While those quotes were certainly harsh, a team source did express concern with Hackenberg's performances during practices this season. He actually was inaccurate and struggled during the open practices in training camp attended by the media. But since then, during closed practices, Hackenberg has still struggled in very limited reps, the source said.

That's part of why Hackenberg was the only one of the nine quarterbacks taken in the first four rounds of the last NFL draft to not play a single down this season. Both Bowles and Jets GM Mike Maccagnan said all along that was their plan, since they went into the season with four quarterbacks on the roster. But even after the first three got hurt, Hackenberg obviously didn't show enough to convince the Jets to alter that plan.

The Jets haven't given up on Hackenberg, though, and he is expected to get a long look this offseason and next summer.

"There's nothing wrong with Christian," Bowles said. "He just needs to play. He's allowed to have a redshirt year. Next year, he's got to show some progress and make some jumps."

Who hired Quinn?

They got it right. It took 5 yrs and Quinn 2 yrs.

How long has it taken Rick Smith?

I know about Pioli, but he added alot of the talent that's on that's on the Chiefs.

It took them 5 years & 2 years to do what? What have they done that Rick hasn't?

Ummm- they played eventual SB champ Seattle down to the wire in a playoff game. They also have one of the better teams in the NFL this yr and their situation kinda mirrors the Texans, minus Ryan.

Ok.. I thought they actually did something & I missed it.

We'll be hanging our AFC Runner up banners soon enough.

Fat Randy may suck as a kicker but he has a great agent!

Bengals K Randy Bullock will use NFL rule to take money from Giants
http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/new...act-termination-pay/k64cycmeju9718dhh365z1tzm

He started the year on the Giants roster while Josh Brown was suspended for the first game. After being let go, he spent some time as a free agent before being signed by the Steelers while starter Chris Boswell was hurt. When Boswell recovered, Bullock was released again and finished the final three games with the Bengals.

That means he earned paychecks from three teams, but wait, it gets better. There's an NFL rule in place as part of the collective bargaining agreement that allows players with at least four seasons of playing experience to receive termination pay, and the kicker told ESPN he plans on taking advantage of it.

So what is termination pay? We'll let the folks at OverTheCap explain it:

Termination pay is an in-season salary guarantee that is automatically given to veteran players as a provision of the CBA. There are actually two types of termination pay. The primary one guarantees a player's entire Paragraph 5 salary for the season. To be eligible, you have to make the roster for the first game of the season and have not collected termination pay in the past. If [a player is] released, the team owes [him] the remainder of [his] salary for the year if the player puts in a claim for the amount.

This means that because of Brown's one-game suspension, Bullock will receive his entire $675,000 base salary instead of just a single game check. A player can use the termination-pay rule only once in his career, and it makes sense for Bullock to use it now since it would be rare for him to get such an opportunity again.

In addition to the $675,000 he'll get from the Giants, he'll have received $159,000 in total game checks from the Steelers and Bengals. That comes out to $834,000 for the season, which isn't bad for someone who played for three teams and made only eight field goals this season.

Anyone surprised??

After arrival of Rams, TV ratings decline in Los Angeles
January 6, 2017, 6:04 P

The NFL returned to America’s second-biggest television market after a two-decade absence in 2016, but that didn’t result in more people watching the NFL.

In fact, the NFL on FOX, the network that shows most of the Rams’ games, saw a decrease in its TV ratings in the Los Angeles market for 2016.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the 12 games shown by the Los Angeles FOX affiliate in 2016 reached, on average, 8 percent of L.A. households. In 2015, the Los Angeles FOX affiliate reached, on average, 8.3 percent of L.A. households. (The one Sunday Rams game shown on CBS this season also declined from CBS’s 2015 L.A. average.)

That’s a small decrease, not unusual for a season in which TV ratings were down across the board — especially early in the season. Later in the 2016 season the NFL’s TV ratings rebounded, but by then the Rams were already out of contention, so there was scant interest in the Rams.

Unsurprisingly, NFL ratings also declined in St. Louis in 2016. The NFL surely expected to lose TV viewers in the market the Rams left, but losing viewers in the Rams’ new market as well has to be a concern.

A huge part of the NFL’s Los Angeles television problem is that the Rams were a bad team and a boring team. Perhaps next year, with a new coach, the Rams can be competitive and compelling, and the viewership numbers will increase.

But Year One in Los Angeles was a big disappointment on the field, and a disappointment in the TV ratings as well.
