Will Fuller WR Notre Dame- 1st round 2016

Horse pucky. We ran TEs down the middle of the field for years with Kevin Walter opposite AJ. Wide the F open TEs. When we had a scheme that was more than 'trust us, I can copy NE without Brady.'
In those days, we had an AJ that was fast enough and feared enough to pull out a CB and a safety most of the time, then the threat of Slaton and later Foster running or running a short dump off kept the box safety close to the LOS. The mid depth mid field was commonly at best a 1-on-1 matchup.

I am so ready for the next round. Watching video of him at the combine makes me more disappointed - I cannot recall a less athletic speed guy. Looking forward to seeing him in pads and running straight lines. Got to stay positive...
Are you talking about Fuller? He has some work to do in the short and intermediate routes, but he has excellent deep route running skills and footwork.

Yes, little lift/vertical, light frame. Like I said, I need to stay positive for the 2nd day.

I'm concerned about his light frame the most. Hopefully he can at least knock down passes he doesn't catch. Lol

Not sold on the pick, but staying optimistic.

I like the pick which gives us instant speed and long distance vertical threat. My greatest concern re. Fuller will be his ability to grab a jump ball in traffic and come down with it...............the formula of not having a particularly strong body, having small hands (8 1/4 inch), short arms (30 3/4 inch) and having a very less than impressive 33 1/2 inch vertical does not make for a great formula.

I am also concerned with that, but hoping we don't put him in those positions to begin with. I am also concerned he might get bumped off route when running with some of the bigger defenders in the NFL. Even a split second spent recovering means lost yardage that he could have had to burn the DB. We will see though. His world class speed alone makes him an automatic look out by opposing D's.

I've liked Will Fuller all along, it's just that spending a first round draft pick on a guy he had better be able to contribute right away. For some reason I just can't imagine a rookie opposite of Hopkins. Now, in the slot, yes, with Strong on the outside, but in most cases you don't spend a first round pick on a slot guy.

I just hope I'm wrong and OB comes correct with ways to use him to warrant the pick. Now we have Braxton Miller, too. Wow! OB had better put on his creative pants come sundown.

Is Will old enough to play in the NFL? He looks like a 16 year old kid in the photo on the Chronicles front page.

He needs to put on some muscle/weight to survive in NFL. He either does so and loses his one attribute, speed or he doesn't and gets injured and doesn't even play. Why get a WR in the first round that can't catch the ball. Watched tape and he didn't even look like the main man at ND. He looked like he was a decoy. Again guys just my opinion.

A decoy with 29 TDs in the Last 2 seasons? He might Not be the guy being targeted 10 Times a Game, but he is the guy that will make you pay that one or two times you lose concentration for a Second.

And if I am Not mistaken, he Never missed a Game in college And he is Not Afraid to take a hit. I am Not saying he won't get injured, but so far he was fine taking the punishment. And I am sure he will be able to put on some muscle without losing a step...

Not sure, but This board Needs a shake uP.

Maybe so but damn it's painful.

I hope your outcome is the right one. I have been saying for years this team is SLOWWWWWWW!!!!! I hope he is good enough to be more than just a role/gimmick player. I think first rounders need to be starters at some point for a few years, not just role players. My main problem with him was his drops. Maybe with hard work he can overcome this. Just seems that players that depend solely on speed burn out quick. Time will tell.

My main problem with him was his drops.

Sixty catches 15 TDs, 9 drops... isn't that his statline, or something like that? That doesn't look like a big problem to me & when you watch his combine work out, he's plucking the ball out of the air, with his hands... showing that he's at least working on it & it's something that can improve.

I'm not saying it isn't an issue. I just don't think it's as big a deal... not something to worry about. Not yet.

Until we are cussing him.

I went ahead and compared measurables with a very similarly rated prospect coming out of college.

Desean Jackson drafted 2nd round 49th overall

5'10" 170

4.35 40

34.5" vertical

10' broad jump

4.19 20 yd shuttle

6.82 3 cone

Will Fuller drafted 1st round 21st overall

6' 186

4.32 40

33.5" vertical

10'6" broad jump

4.27 20 yd shuttle

6.93 3 cone

If Will Fuller can become our Desean Jackson I think we can all agree that it was a great pick!

Washington wasn't going to select Fuller, must have got reassurance of that to some extent before making trade? Real head scratcher, sure "rest of the story" will come out eventually but wish Texans had traded down instead of up.

Someone posted on draft day thread that Texans excel @ treading in water, they just shifted focus in another area.

We won't know their success or failure for 2-3 years but one thing is certain, come draft day Texan moves look amateur, panic driven & foolish.

Texans have held the #1 overall selection three times and not once have they been able to trade down & parlay them into added value to improve depth of roster. We see multiple other franchises do it to their benefit. Just frustrating as hell hope Fuller is worth it, that Kevin Johnson picks up where he left off & Clowney is a terror on the edge otherwise :choke:

When we have had #1, there was no quarterbacks worth moving up for... you have to have a willing partner to trade down

Multiple franchises? The last time a team traded out of the 1.1 was in 2001 when San Diego gave the pick to Atlanta to select Michael Vick. That was before the Texans were even a franchise. Then there was 1997 when the Jets gave the pick to the Rams for Orlando Pace. So the rest of the NFL has done it 3 times in something like the last 25 years.

Well, with the exception of panic driven, lots of folks said the exact same thing about not trading up for Teddy Bridgewater, Melvin Gordon, Phillip Dorsett, and Tyler Lockett.

I'd like details about this, because I think it's simply incorrect.

I'm assuming another team had a trade worked out with Washington, maybe Minnesota looking for Doctson. Or some other team looking at Fuller, but Washington didn't want to fall below Minnesota.

It was probably Indy trying to add Fuller to their stable (j/k)

Why set our sights so low? How does he compare to the best receiver in the league?

Antonio Brown 6th round 2010 (195 overall )

5'10" 186 lbs
31" arms
9" hands

20 yard shuttle 4.18 sec
60 yard shuttle 11.30 sec

WEAKNESSES
Lacks size. Not tall and does not possess enough bulk at this time. Needs to add strength to more effectively beat press coverage and battled for the ball in the air. Route running skills could use some refinement. Needs to become more consistent catching the ball in a crowd.

I just saw on the NFL channel draft replay the Texans 1.21 pick in the draft for the first time. Is it normal for the owner to be on the phone while the "GM" stands to the side with his hand over his mouth? Maybe there's more to this "meddling owner" thing than just an Area 51 conspiracy theory? That's pretty convincing evidence. It looked like Smith wasn't on board with the pick. OB didn't look particularly enthused, either.

I think the first round, if not a few rounds - the owner calls the pick, adds to the "wow" factor. I think it was all business for OB / RS, probably nothing to read into.... probably.

Generally, the owner will call the draftee first. It's kind of like meeting the CEO or President for an award type of thing. Like a "Surprise! Your life is about to change drastically for the next few years!" After that, its either the coach or the GM that talks to you, though I think coaches usually do it before the GM.

Fuller is already working out with Strong. I expect great things from our young WR corps this year. A little run-in with the harmless Mary Jane aside, I feel like they really have their heads screwed on right.

I will instantly hate Will if he starts dabbing. I don't care how many TDs or drops he has.

Same applies to Braxton and anyone else that dabs.

If you watch the full episode, it was Michael Irvin that coaxed them to do their best "dab" if they're successful at making a one-handed catch. That part was left out in this clip. Most of the receivers looked at him like he was crazy when he suggested it, but went along with it anyway. I'm totally with you in hoping Will and Braxton don't do that stupid celebration from here on out.

I'm most excited about getting Brax, but I'm rooting the most for Fuller to succeed.

I think I'll adopt him!

Well, I hope you hate the hell out of both of them. If they're doing a lot of dabbing, then they're scoring a lot of TDs & making it look easy.

is it me, or does it seem like Strong is in the middle of everything this offseason?

Strong is just trying to be the best teammate he can be.

Seriously though, I remember reports of him having a very good attitude towards football when I was looking at him for the draft. I'm really not surprised he's focused on improving himself in the offseason. He still has some maturing to do but he's still extremely young.

I was really excited to add Strong tonthe team when he was drafted. He flashed big that first Indy game and towards the end of the year had his moments.

But he had a hard time getting out of the doghouse his rookie year. I hope he makes a big jump in year 2. He's very capable of being Nuk-Lite.

Us spending two of our first three picks on possible replacements ought to be wake up call enough for him to realize he's on a very short leash.

I think Bill just likes to be stern with rookies until they prove themselves teammate worthy .

That's actually not true at all. They show these conversations and unless it's Jerry Jones, the GM or (usually) the coach calls the prospect.

So, yeah, what was described is a bit strange.
