In those days, we had an AJ that was fast enough and feared enough to pull out a CB and a safety most of the time, then the threat of Slaton and later Foster running or running a short dump off kept the box safety close to the LOS. The mid depth mid field was commonly at best a 1-on-1 matchup.Horse pucky. We ran TEs down the middle of the field for years with Kevin Walter opposite AJ. Wide the F open TEs. When we had a scheme that was more than 'trust us, I can copy NE without Brady.'
