2016 Free agent targets

Okay, so the Qb prize of free agent will be - Osweiler, who would be foolish to sign a deal with Denver before exploring the market given today's developments. So, the question is this: should the Texans engage in abidding war to go get this guy? I think so. I saw enough from him this year to believe he is our best shot at finding an answer at Qb.

What are the odds Osweiler hits the market and gets picked up by the Browns or Rams? That's assuming Manning stays, which is highly doubtful anyway. We'd be in a pretty good position then, wouldn't we?

I think not. He isn't that good.

I'd rather trade for Colin Kaepernick and see if Mario Williams or DeMeco Ryans (both if we can) would be willing to sign cheap deals to return to H-Town as veteran leaders. Not sure we can make it all work under the salary cap unless we get rid of some salary. Arian Foster will surely be released. J-Jo may be a goner sooner rather than later. Wherever we can find some cap relief I'm down for it. Brian Cushing, hmm, he's going to be here in 2016.

I'd love to have Ryans back, not sure I'd bring Mario back as a veteran leader.

What happened to Mario this last season? Was averaging 12.5 sacks his first three years in Buffalo and didn't miss a game. Last season only missed one game but 5.0 sacks. Scheme? Playing injured? On The Job Retirement?

At 31 with almost 100 career sacks, you think he would be an upgrade over Crick (who moves to depth) and could play an Antonio Smith type role complimenting Watt. Just seems like his "take plays off" rep expanded to the entire season. And I imagine he still wants non-team friendly money.

He wasn't properly used in Rex Ryan's defense. He was asked to drop off in coverage and whined about it all season.
I'd consider a Williams return at the right price. Certainly not in Watt's neighborhood. I see some team paying him big bucks, though.

Rex Ryan happened. Bills were 1st in sacks in 2013 and 6th in 2014. They were 31st under Rex last year. He came in and changed the scheme and had guys like Mario and Marcell Dareus doing zone drops. It was insane. Mario had a right to be pissed although airing it out publicly is not the correct way to address that.

Hence why you don't bring Mario in for leadership

Some people suck at breaking up.

I heard on SiriusXM NFL Radio this morning that Houston has let it be known through back channels that we don't want him. I believe it was Ross Tucker or Booger McFarland who said it.

I'm thinking he'll end up with the Jets.
I could see da Raidah's making a run at him. Loads of cap space and putting MW on the field with Mack would be a good move for them. Atlanta makes a lot of sense, also.

Manning doesn't sound like a guy ready to retire

Anyone willing to kick the tires on him? I am, if the price is right and CnD gives the green light.

Plantar fasciitis is bad foot injury for any athlete to deal with. Conservative treatment with extended rest tends to be the standard approach, but there is no guarantee Manning will be pain-free this next season. Plantar fasciitis can linger. It is one of the most difficult athletic injuries to heal, partly because there is so little blood flow around the heel and also because any sort of running or jumping continues to offset the various treatment options, primarily physical therapies and anti-inflammatory medicines. Even after extended rest, recurrence is common. Surgery is considered a last option and certainly not a desired one, as the recovery can be lengthy, up to a year. Even with surgery, there is a 15% failure rate.

It is important to consider that Manning's fascial tear was in his right foot.........his plant and push-off foot............a perfect setup for chronicity and recurrence. And remember that Manning's case was not a mild case.........he missed 6 weeks (and played as though he should have missed the 7th). Actually, Manning had already been dealing with this problem for ~5 months.

It is inarguable that Manning's past cervical nerve damage has left his arm strength weakened. At this point in time, additional nerve regeneration (improvement) cannot be expected and deterioration can occur. As I've spoken to this in the past, when 1 or 2 levels of cervical fusion is performed, it is common for the adjacent levels to later show progressive deterioration.........which will again require surgical attention to prevent further debilitation (something that I have already heard is being considered). The more trauma he sustains while playing, the closer to this scenario he is likely to be. When your arm strength is compromised, so is your accuracy in tight windows and mid to long passes. This along with a foot problem with your plant/push-off foot (a la Schaub), foot work and accuracy can quickly go down the toilet and interceptions reach entirely unacceptable rates (2015........9 TDs/17INTs).

I'll let everyone make their own final conclusion.

Exactly why I asked for your considered opinion. Lol

Do nerves regenerate?

Do nerves regenerate?
Damaged nerves from the Peripheral Nervous System such as the radial nerve can regenerate...........the extent is variable depending on the nature of the injury.........the larger the nerve, the less can usually be expected........the end point of regeneration is usually reached ~ the 2 year mark.

Damaged nervous tissues from the Central Nervous System such as the brain and spinal cord demonstrate limited to no ability to regenerate, depending on the nature of the injury.

I was thinking NYGiants to replace JPP

I wonder if we'll give Chase Daniel a look-see. Or, does he not fit the "prototypical QB" standards for OB

I keep hearing how we aren't going to go with retreads anymore yada yada. How can we not? The rookie QBs coming out this year need at least a year or two before a chance at starting. Are we sticking with Hoyer? We haven't seen jack from Savage to toss our eggs in that basket. We need something better than what we've got and a 2016 rookie QB isn't going to be the answer. So what are we going to do?

I'll still record every game, but will not make it a point to watch every week if we trot Hoyer out day 1.

WR Rueben Randle
TE Coby Fleener
Malik Jackson 3-4 DE i know very low chance but would be nice with Watt

FWIW Lance Zierlein just said on Sports talk 790 that there was a buzz/rumors at the combine that the Texans are gonna make a big offer to Brock Osweiler.

I honestly don't know the guy. When he was coming out of college, I don't think my attention was on QBs, so I don't even remember if there was any buzz about him. That the Broncos took him in the 2nd, after signing Peyton speaks well of him.

Watching him play in the NFL, I wasn't blown away & thought he was a guy that moved awkwardly... as you'd expect for someone of his size. Unlike guys like Mariota or Lynch. More like Mallett, maybe a little better.

I remember some talk of the downward trajectory of his short/intermediate throws. I don't know if it's really a big deal, but I did notice it, & just thought it was kinda odd.

Seeing him beat New England... If our defense would play like that against New England, could we beat them with Osweiler... that's the question. Denver held New England to 24 points. They held Brady to 280 yards 3 TDs, 0 Ints. We held Denver to 27 points. Brady to 266 yards, 2 TDs (but we only scored 6 points, so maybe they weren't going all out).

Denver was able to run that ball though. Cj Anderson ran for 113 yards & scored 2 TDs. Our RBBC only put up 87 yards 0 TDs. So there's that.
