I need a NO CLOROX sig as an optimist.

There's your optimism. Four guys rakin' in cash without a football team to show for it.

Do you mind making a sig banner with the soap theme? I'd love to use it. I just can't let go of my current selfie.

Ditto. I like my current av enough that I've gone back to it after casting it aside. After spending 6 months away from Texas, it is even more meaningful to me. But I'm on the Fire 'Em Both bandwagon, for sure. Never thought I'd ever want to see a coach gone in such short order, but here we are.

EDIT - posted before I saw the sig banner. I'll figure out how to make it my sig tomorrow. Thanks!

I don't like what I'm seeing at all, but I can't do it yet. It's too soon for O'Brien and I think Rick Smith is just the finance guy (who McNair sometimes overrides anyway). OB better win at least 5 more games this year AND find his QB by the start of next season. Personally, I'm just starting to hope he goes winless and Kyle Shannahan finds the QB.

I've been trying to be a good Texans' fan & support OB as our HC... there is always going to be something that the HC does that I don't agree with, but OB has been doing that I just can't make sense of from the beginning.

I might have been a little knee jerk after Thursday's game & fed off the confusion & anger that's been floating around here. So much so that my true feelings have shown through.

If Arian stays healthy I have no doubt we'll win 5 games. If he can get Hoyer to play like he did against the Colts Thursday night... We might win 7. If he can get this offense to actually play "multiple" like he said, who knows.

We don't have to be "that" good to win 9 of the next 11 games. The Bengals & Patriots are the only "good" teams on our schedule.

I just think 6 wins total is setting the bar pretty low considering.

If this pink soap don't remove nasty stains like Derek Newton oopsies then it isn't strong enough to be effective!

honestly if we keep playing like this I wouldn't be surprised if we ended the season 3-13

winning vs Jags and vs Jets (in NRG)

I'm not saying we can't do better than that, I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen if we keep playing like we played in the first 5 games.

When we play action what are we faking?

They are faking play action ....

I so miss a healthy Matt Schaub. Not a world beater QB like Rodgers , Brady or Peyton in his prime ..... Just competent.

Which should be the problem. We went from an offensive line where Newton was a complete embarrassment to one where he's someone we rely on.

^^That^^

We've known for 3 years that RT needed a talent upgrade .... Back when the OL was the strength of this team Newton was the weakest link and most (many?) of us wanted him replaced .... and this franchise handed Newton a pile of millions .... Talk about a WTF moment ?! (I blame Tricky Rick).

Winning against the J.E.T.S ?! They've been playing some pretty good football on both sides of the ball. This Texans squad has show it cant beat good teams .... They might win two of the four against the Jags & Tinbreds.

At this point the less they win the better .... kill three birds with one stone in getting rid of OB & Co as well as Tricky Rick and being in position to draft a QB.

Maybe. You don't think he is wondering why with a bum wheel they averaged 4.3 and now are averaging 3.8?

Ypu don't think the OL notices they aren't attacking an angle, they aren't making a pass look like a run, that we run no boot, that none of our RBs cut back, etc.

When we play action what are we faking?

Play action faking works when you have Foster back there, Blue not so much.

Which was a huge mistake.

Biggest problem for this team is after a player gets paid big $$$$ his performance falls off or injuries begin to happen. Plus McNair/Smith have issues extending players contracts before they have too.

I know, but I guess we can win one as the underdogs right? :)

I think we will lose all divisional games except for jags in NRG.

Unless the team can turn the season around starting this sunday. (but I'm not holding my breath)

The ability to run the ball well is not important when we're talking about play action, only the threat to run. If you're running the ball down the defense's throat then of course that helps some. But you don't even have to be a good running team to run play action well. You only have to be good at selling the defense on the run.

There were a lot of times when Schaub was here that we would have a bad day running the ball, but he would still be able to bring the defense up on the fake. Not because they were scared of giving up rushing yards, but because they believed the play was a run and reacted to that.

I don't know yet if it's our QBs, our OL, or even our scheme, but the defense isn't buying it. No matter how well you run the ball, play action only works if the defense believes that you are running it on that play. Foster could have 200 yards and we still wouldn't be able to run play action, because the fake itself isn't faking anyone.

What he just said, exactly.

Schaub and our OL could sell a Spam sandwich to a Muslim.

Kubiak's offense was designed to look exactly the same run or pass and why play action worked well in that offense.

Schaub was one of the best play action fakers to ever play the game. Watching defenses bite on it was beautiful. Especially on bootlegs.

Schaub had a whole lot to do with it he sold the exchange and hid the ball very well .... But the OL had to sell it too and they were damn good at it.

There were lots of times where only three guys ran routes , one of them #80 with multiple defenders responsible for him .... and he would be so wide open no one was within 10+ yards .... think about that for a moment.

These clowns cant run a simple screen play ....

Never called for Kubiak's firing but here I am wearing the pink for BOB.

As for Newton, he has improved as he's matured. Never gonna be an all-pro but not a major issue either.

Newton's gotten better, but we should've sought improvement at the position. We could then use Newton as a swing tackle, which would've come in handy this season.

Going into last off-season we had more pressing offensive needs. Qb, wr x 2, lg, c? (who believed in jones?)

On defense we had questions about clowney at olb, mlb, and safety x 2.

I say all that to say, replacing Newton was a back burner move. He is the definition of a JAG.

This post is 100% factually correct .... but we have to realize that we've known for three years a talent upgrade at RT was required ....

We've known for the better part of 14 years we needed and didn't have a franchise qb. Still no dice.

Newton will neither win or lose a game. I just place him lower in the pecking order of replacement among the other 21 starters. Hell, i place a legit return man higher then Newton. I agree with you, just not as adamantly maybe as you'd like.

People just don't get it. He had his problems as a passer but damn nobody sold a play fake better. There should be a 15 minute clip at Reliant, err, NRG with Schaub cuts and this - This is How We Do It

If they could get everyone focused enough to come to the 9:00 meeting at 8:45 they could watch then. Someone could bring donuts.

I'd bring La Mexicana stuff (ok seriously, i have asked for names and im pretty sure what they've said is "white boy needs to stop asking and just point") but they'll stunt leaving only Elvis confused.

I've been ready to dump Rick for 5+ years. It's difficult to judge the coaches because I don't think this is a particularly talented team. I am skeptical of them when even our veterans are playing below their past performance, so a losing record at the end of this season would push me into the fire BOB camp.

I'm pretty confused and disappointed with some of the moves and actions O'Brien has taken over the off season and into the regular season. But I am not going to start calling for the HC's head in his sophomore year. It would take a similar performance in year 3 for me to call for O'Brien's head. In regards to Rick Smith, I said it when they fired Kubiak. If you are going to take out the trash. Don't leave one bag behind to start smelling up the freshly cleaned kitchen.

I wouldn't be on the fire OB train if he had done something to address the QB situation in the last two drafts .... besides Savage , he aint gonna save us.
But with the facts being as they are , OB got us Fitz , Hoyerable & Mullet instead of a quality prospect .... which sets the franchise back when he finally does get that guy because we have to wait for him to develop .... 2-3 years down the road. That is something I just cant accept ....
Add to that the fact that there are reports he's losing the locker room .... the cant make up my mind who's starting at QB , changing his mind more than a woman .... and the epic regression of the defense when it appeared they solved all their talent issues on that side of the ball .... Its just obvious to me he's in over his head.

I kind of agree with you, but who was out there to get at QB? (I liked Jimmy G) If you say trade up for TB who is in charge of making the trade up happen?

The reason the defense looks so bad is because the LB's stink. Clowney's learning, so is McKinney. Cushing is a shell of his former self and Mercilus has returned to stinking since he got paid after finally playing up to his draft slot in a contract yr. (Shocking) None of these guys can cover a TE/RB to save their lives and a 3/4 defense with these type of LB's is going to stink.

In the secondary, Moore isn't what he was supposed to be and signing Demps to be the starting SS 3 weeks before the start of the season speaks volumes.

Who is responsible for the re-signings/FA signings? You put these with below avg drafting over the last 3 yrs and you get the 2015 Houston Texans,

If you get a chance check out Memphis QB Paxton Lynch, he looks like a franchise QB to me.
