Texans gave Andre Johnson's agent, Kennard McGuire, permission to seek a trade after Andre declined to accept reduced role in offense in 2015

Texans gave Andre Johnson permission to seek a trade. Told him he'd have a reduced role next season. He asked to be traded or cut instead.

Jesus CHRIST. **** sports.

F$#%@. End of an era.

Goodbye Dre. I'll never forget you man handling Cortland Innegan or single handedly running over the entire Cardinals defense for a TD :(

Less of a role ? Has the coaching staff looked at the rest of our WRs.

What a ****ing joke, honestly don't want to be a Texans fan right now.

If Kennard McGuire finds a trade partner, contract will have to be redone. His bases are $10.5 and 11 million. He gets $1 mil workout bonus each year

Johnson was 3rd overall pick in 2003. Has 1,012 catches, 13,597 yards, 64 TDs.

Texans have nobody on roster capable of replacing Johnson in starting lineup opposite DeAndre Hopkins. It's top priority position now.

Texans must find replacement in free agency or draft for Johnson. Randall Cobb and Jeremy Maclin are top FA receivers.

Andre Johnson is a class act who can still play. Texans save $8.825 under cap, giving them $21.9 mil of room. Must find replacement.

Johnson, 7 Pro Bowls, had 85 catches for 936 yards and 3 TDs last season.

Texans didn't discuss contract with Johnson, but if he'd returned in reduced role, he would have been asked to take less than $10.5 base.

Andre Johnson is the greatest player in Texans history and a legitimate candidate for Hall of Fame. Has 2 years left on contract.

If no trade can't be worked out for Johnson, he'll be cut and free to sign with any team after 12 seasons with the Texans.

During his holdout last year, Johnson wanted his contract guaranteed, wanted assurances about his future with the #Texans.

O'Brien probably sees Hopkins as the teams #1 WR. At least that's the only reason I can think of Andre having a reduced role next year.

Does reduced role mean restructuring contract for less play? Too bad we can do the same thing the Spurs did with Duncan...

I doubt Hopkins can be half as good without an AJ type WR on the field with him. No offense because i like the kid i do, but AJ was it for a long time. It's a shame AJ finally has a good #2 and now he won't be here anymore.

I agree. Like I said, that's the only legitimate reason I can think to give AJ a lesser role next year.

Tough call, but the right call.

A true class act, my favorite AJ moment, ironically, is him going at it with Cortland Finnegan. Thanks for the memories, Andre. I wish him the best.

Somehow the Colts manage to pay Marvin Harris & Reggie Wayne. Reggie Wayne & Ty Hilton. Dwight Freeney & Robert Mathis.

But we've got to approach Andre Johnson about accepting a lesser role? Really?

That's the best way they decided to pitch a restructured contract?

Wait a second... When i suggested this likelihood, people on this board shouted me down... Called me an idiot... Said it would never happen. I am confused. What is happening?

Unreal. What idiocy.

Reduce his ROLE?! Da **** for?

If it's a contract thing, just say it's a contract thing.

He's gonna go to ****ing New England, isn't he.

My enthusiasm for the start of the season was at a 10, now it is at a modest 1, i know that's sad, but damn.

Eww we have Keshawn Martin, we're good to go at the WR position HAHA. Who was going to take over his role is my question haha

Cry me a river. Now they're shouting down the Texans, calling them idiots, saying it never should have happened.

But your trust in the decision-making within the organization should be on the upswing. Winning organizations dont overpay players out of appreciation for past performance.

this is the patriots stleerr err I mean Texan way now

all I can say is thank U AJ Texans were the first team I started to follow being a youngin around 2002 I feel like I grew up with this team and AJ was obvs my fav WR

so AJ go get dat money and whatever team u go to I hope u can win a Ring with them u deserve it !!!!!! but I know for a fact when ur done with them u will def be a HOF in our ring of honor

Well, he's going to go to a winning organization. Let's see how much they pay him.

Maybe.

For once though, it seems like the Texans are being proactive instead of reactive.

No not for once, i can name so many guys like Travis Johnson, and Okoye who the Texans held on to for way to long when they offered nothing. BUT even at AJs age he still has plenty to offer. Where ever he goes he will put up a 1,000 yard season, and make the Texans look like the fools they are.

Overpaying wasn't the only option.

Trading him, cutting him..... aren't the only options. There's some wiggle room in between. Rick Smith has to sell Andre on the Texans & Andre needs to sell himself to the Texans & meet somewhere in between.

Trading him away saves us $8.8M, are you saying there was no way a competent businessman can find a way to save that $8.8M?

No it's not, this is the same team who gave Schaub a new contract after his injury gave Cushing a new one after his, drafted #1 overall player who needed surgery, yet because our future HOF WR has a down season we are reducing his role and pretty much forcing him to go some where else.

My respect for this organization just nose dived faster than a kamikaze on a US destroyer.

It's possible, but then again, that has nothing to do with what my post.

Thank you Houston for a wonderful 12 years. And a special thanks to all the fans who have supported me throughout my career. #TeamEighty

It's over tk.

Let it go.

Have to move on to acceptance.

marvin retired early I don't think he got his 3rd contract or 4th or whatever it was

freeny was lost to the chargers

and ty was under a rookie contract for the last 3 years I think

this is the modern day cap era this happens to every team

It is $9 million that can be better allocated... Not to mention, it clears $17 million from the 2016 cap, which is $4million mor than Dez Bryant's franchise tag.

Funny thing about this is everyone says we need the Cap space, can't wait to see what a joke of a WR they sign.

Bet that cap space doesn't help our offense as much as AJ would.

I'm done posting for a few months, this **** makes me sick.

Cant be a successful franchise if you are unwilling to make decisions like this one... Look at new england, pittsburgh, etc... One of the issues with kubiak was his inability to cut ties with guys.

Sucks but it is a business.

You want to be like the Patriots then you have to make these types of decisions. Just the nature of the beast
