I favored defense a little when I made this. I also couldn't remember the difference between Mancz and Ferentz. Both the backup offensive tackles can play guard. I can see one of the LBs not making the team for depth elsewhere, but we seem to routinely have bad luck concerning the health of our LBs so I put a little more depth there. I wanted to put Jumal Rolle on but I couldn't remember if he got hurt. I can also see them going only 3 DE's as well since Covington can play there, at which point it becomes a tossup between Finua and Pagan, with Pagan likely winning that one.
RB Hilliard: Honestly I think he can drop to the PS with little risk, didn't show much outside of 1 or 2 plays in preseason and even if someone else scoops him up there will be a large amount of young HBs available for the PS anyway. Plus Charles James can go in for pitches! One of the HB spots would have to open up for Foster anyway when he returns, if we decided to carry all 4.
Rookie WRs: I really tried to get a 4th Veteran in there, but none have really made a point to me from a game standpoint that the young rooks havent had a better flash at. I considered Labhart but he'd have to take Strongs spot as Mumph has played better at WR than Strong and does a really good job on coverage teams plus can do returns if Worthy gets injured, but they aren't going to release a 3rd round pick they traded up for unless he plays bad enough to get cut, or has a disastrous attitude. So I consider Mumph and Strong locks to make the team (Mumph for backup slot and ST skills). So it came down if someone can replace Worthy's speed and return ability. I can see EZ replacing Worthy if they decided to go Mumph, Demps, and Polk at returner, I just think it's better to go with the best returner option with comparable speed. Demaris Johnson is considered for his speed/quickness at WR but Worthy has comparable skill there and is a better return man imo.
I spent alot of time thinking about this and every time it seemed like the best option was to go with those 3 Rooks to finish out the WR depth.
We're still kinda screwed at OL depth, Adams or Clark are likely to start at LG, and they can backup the guard spots. I can see X coming down on IR if they are really uncomfortable about his availability and want to get someone on that spot. I just really don't want to see Ben Jones back out there. Our season is over offensively if we lose Brooks (knock on wood) even moreso that D. Brown, there is at least competent options behind Brown, our guard depth is stretched extremely thin right now though.
There are 2 players that will likely make the team, but I personally think it would be better to just move on from to provide depth elsewhere are TE Ryan Griffin, and DT Louis Nix. Griffin just doesn't stand out to me not even from a blocking standpoint and Lee is a much better receiving option in my opinion. I can see Nix staying one more year, but he's got to be 3rd in the DT rotation by now. I can see the team replacing him via draft or free agency next season and wouldn't really bother me if they decided to cut the chord with him sooner rather than later.
Edit 1: Swapped Ankrah for Slade. Still waiting on the all the initial cuts just went with who I thought deserved a spot when filling in the backups
