YoungTexanFan's first 3 rounds, post yours:

1. Antoine Cason - CB ASU - The most physically gifted CB. He is a playmaker and someone who is excellent when the ball is in the air. Good hands, speed, size, instincts.
Other consideration: Revis from Pitt, Landry from LSU

2. Pitcok - DT OSU - He is an excellent run stuffing DT who is a first round talent but is very likely to be available in the 2nd round. Similar to DeMeco last year in that regard, he just makes things happen.
Other consideration: Kenny Irons RB from Auburn, Michael Bush from Lou, Sidney Rice from South Carolina, Okam from UT

3. Dan Conor - OLB Penn St. - Very instinctive and underrated OLB. Overshadowed by Plouz, but has outplayed him this year. Good insticnts and size, good ability to recognize the play and a very good tackler. Steal in the third.
Other consideration: Keneth Darby RB fromk Bama, McFadden from Ark., Kyle Young OC from Fresno St.

Would anyone be upset with these picks? Post your ideal first 3 rounds and explain them please.

I hate drafting another DL high but I agree its a given . I would take Connor in the 3rd in a second ... another smart athletic LB to go with Ryans .

1. Thomas/ Landry
2. Bennet DB So Carolina
3. B.J. Ajia DT B. C.
4. Terrell Brown CB Texas
5. (Moulds pick)
6. Brusard RB LSU
7. Babino ISLB Texas/Toal ISLB BC/ Slade Will/Mike Pitt.

Something like this route could be nice.

Trade our 1st rd pick..#5 worth 1700 pts.
for 1st rd pick..#15 worth 1050 pts.
and 2nd rd pick #47 worth 430 pts.

not exactly even but play around with pick numbers cuz we dont know.

#15pick Justin Blalock G
#37pick Michael Bush RB
#47pick Kyle Young C

This could help our OL out for the future and have a big back like bush.

I did just realize that these OL may not be a good fit for the ZBS...I'm not sure of the OL we could get that would be good but you get my drift.

its too early for me youngTexanFan I'm still compiling prospects but I think you offer an excellent list. Why just tonight discovered what must be a hidden jem @ Fresno State (yeh David Carrs alma-marter) RB Dwayne Wright who rushed for 295 yds on 25 carries for a 11.8 avg. outstanding understanding of the position, break away speed, change of direction, excellent hands out of the backfield & size 6-1 220. He would be excellent in Kubiak's system he makes one move then runs downfield with ability to change direction @ full speed.

have to wait for the combine to see how the numbers stack up but he could be a real sleeper pick in the 2nd :twocents:

well, his name hasn't been floating around any of the draft circles that I know of yet. I'd say he goes later than the 2nd, even with a good combine.

The draft is my favorite thing man, I'm always looking foward to it. Kudos to you on your sleeper find.

McFadden is only a sophmore.

1st: trade down and get FS Merriweather~Miami(FL.)
2nd: DT Pittcock~OSU
3rd: FB Leonard~Rutgers or OT Doug Free~Northern Illinois
4th: WLB Shaw Crable~Michigan (if he comes out)
5th: OG/C Mike Elgin~Iowa
6th: SS Miguel Merrick~Iowa
7th: WR from smaller school with speed

I didn't list him in the 3rd. I don't know about top 5 though.

I like Darby in the 3rd though.

McFadden is listed in the 3rd round in your initial post as "other consideration". I can't say anything though, because I didn't catch it when I first read it.

See below:

3. Dan Conor - OLB Penn St. - Very instinctive and underrated OLB. Overshadowed by Plouz, but has outplayed him this year. Good insticnts and size, good ability to recognize the play and a very good tackler. Steal in the third.

Agreed I love
blailcok too. Not sure he could be a right tackle on this team. Just saying. Think all of the Texas o-line guys will be in a camp.

Couple of guys who are off everyones radar are , Travis Cooley (55) LG for So. Miss. and Mark White C (60) of So. Carolina. Mark White made all of his combination blocks yesterday and the QB went over his rump on the GL qb sneak. Down side is the Gaines Adams big play came over him. But hey it's Gaines Adams. He dominated the Clemson inside all day. Both guys may fall through and be very cheap pratice squad canidates. So...I'm only hot for the OLT prospect early. Got Landry listed, but after last night, Baker will work.

It's obvious we have many many holes to fill. From what I gather we will have some money to spend on Free Agents as well, so if we can try to plug two of the holes with FA's (SLB-briggs,thomas CB-clements, samuels, OG-someone mentioned steinback) If we get 2 positions filled we should be much better if we draft halfway decent. This is counting on getting a CB in FA.
1st Round-FS-Landry,Nelson or DT-Branch or OT-Thomas
2nd Round-WLB-Alexander, DT-Pitcock/Tyler, OT-Staley
3rd Round-QB-Kolb, OG-Grubbs, FB-Leonard, FS-Weddle,Wedling
4th Round-RB-Cornish, or BPA/DT
5th Round-C-Kalil or BPA/DT/RB
6th Round-BPA/RB
7th Round-BPA
Undrafted-Punter(Baylor punter)/kicker/RB (D.D Terry looked good for SHSU)
I don't really know if the rounds are right but from what i've seen it's close. I believe later in the draft to go for BPA and hopefully they turn out to be something special.

holy crap if mcfadden is eligible he'd be a top 5 pick easily. 3rd round?? :yikes:

If McFadden declares next year he very well could be a top 10 pick.

1. Freesafety: Laron Landry, LSU: The guy can do it all at the Free Safety position and would be an immediate starter at our weakest position IMO.

2. Offensive Guard/Tackle: Justin Blalock, UT: Good blocker who has played both Guard and Tackle.

3. Outside Linebacker: Tony Taylor, Georgia: He's a good weakside linebacker and my sleeper of the draft.

1. Thomas/ Landry
2. Bennet DB So Carolina
3. B.J. Ajia DT B. C.
4. Terrell Brown CB Texas
5. (Moulds pick)
6. Brusard RB LSU
7. Babino ISLB Texas/Toal ISLB BC/ Slade Will/Mike Pitt.

I'm a huge LSU fan and I'm going to tell you right now that you don't want Alley Broussard. He was amazing in 2004, but he is not good anymore.

Very solid. I like it. I need to look into Taylor more, especially before I take him over Dan Conor.

I also like Reggie Nelson more than Landry. Nelson has great measurables and great awareness. He makes plays happen and can hit like a load of bricks. He's big, super fast, and has great hands and reactions.

He can't be any worse than our combo of Gado, Lundy, and Dayne.

He at least has been at the top before...but so was Dayne I guess.

Broussard got benched for a true freshman.

I dont know if the kid is just that good or if Broussard is now just that bad...

give the guy a break he is only 16 month removed from major knee surgery. i have been impressed with how he has been running as of late, hitting the hole hard and breaking some tackles. he just isn't getting enough carries to get into a groove, actually not lsu rb is. I expect him to be close to his 2004 form next year and share time with keiland and charles scott.

Neither was Dominic Davis. Just a preliminary stab in the dark. Bennet stunk up the house also satuarday....but he had a trans fromed QB behind him at safety, and I'm taking him as a FS not a CB. We'll see. Long ways to go untill April.

Mainly, in these three rounds we need to do these things: Get a new O-lineman...Improve our coverage and talent in secondary. Optional: Get another LB.

Well, I'll give this a shot (aka, wild guess).

I'll go hard after an OLB in free agency. My 3 targets are:

Adalius Thomas (may be too expensive)
Lance Briggs (pricey, but just about right)
Cato June (very affordable)

As for the draft, assuming we end up at #4 & that the 1st 3 players selected will be Quinn, Thomas, & Johnson, that'd leave us with Adrian Peterson at #4. While I would have no problem selecting AP, I feel that a stud CB will go a lot further in getting us where we want to be.

So, I'd give Green Bay (currently #7) a call & see if they'd be interested in trading The #7 pick & their 3rd & 4th round picks for the #4 pick. I'd even accept the #7, their 3rd, & 5th round picks for the #4 pick. Depending upon their answer, I could draft one of two ways:

With Trade Down

1st) Darrelle Revis (CB) -- The more I read about this kid, the more I like him.

2nd) Reggie Nelson (FS) -- I'll be praying he drops to us in the 2nd round. Otherwise, I select Michael Griffin (FS). Of course, if Landry should slip this far, I'd take him first.

3a) Samson Satele (C/G) -- Very strong & extremely quick for a 6'3" 312lb. man.

3b) Manuel Ramirez (G) -- Hey, 2 O'Linemen in the 3rd round worked out well for us last year. Why can't we do it again? This would solidify our OL for years to come.

4) Tyrone Moss (RB) -- 5'9" 240lbs. -- Powerful runner with the ability to change direction without losing any speed (4.55 40).

With No Trade Down

1st) Adrian Peterson (or, one of the other 3 top players)

2nd) Reggie Nelson (FS) -- I'll be praying he drops to us in the 2nd round. Otherwise, I select Michael Griffin (FS). Of course, if Landry should slip this far, I'd take him first.

3rd) DeAndre Jackson (CB)

4th) Samson Satele (C/G) -- If he falls to the 4th. Otherwise, I'll take Manuel Ramirez (G).

Oh well, there's my useless opinion. :D

With a trade down to #9 and a second rd pick at#41 + our current #36

#9 Paul Pusluszny LB Penn State
#36 Aaron Rouse SS Virginia Tech
#41 Alan Branch DT Michigan
# 68 Sam Baker OT USC
Without trade down
#4 Gaines Adams DE Clemson
#36 Rufus Alexander LB Oklahoma
#68 Sam Baker OT USC

I doubt there is any chance that Branch falls that far.

Most people regard him as the top DT in the draft & the ones who dont have him 2nd.

BUT... if he fell to us in the 2nd I think we should snatch him.

I also dont think that Poslusnzy is worth a top ten pick so I wouldnt be happy with that pick. In fact, I'm not sure any of the LBs are. The only one that I could see going top ten is Willis from Mississippi.

Paul Posluszny OLB 6'2 238 Penn St.
By: Robert Davis
Paul Posluszny played well as a freshman, finishing the year with 36 tackles, 2.5 of them coming for a loss. That was nothing compared to what he has done the past two years. As a sophomore, he had 104 tackles, 12 for loss, and three sacks. He was even better as a junior, winning the Bednarik and Butkus awards after totaling 116 tackles, 11 for loss, and three sacks, along with an interception. Hall of Fame linebacker, and former Penn St backer, Jack Ham gave Poz the title, “Best linebacker to ever play at Penn St.” That’s saying a lot.

There isn’t anything on the field that Posluszny cannot do. He is a true linebacker through and through. He is tough as nails, and has excellent instincts. He quickly diagnoses the action and reacts and flies to the football, wherever the action flows. Posluszny isn’t afraid to stick his nose in amongst the lineman, but also has the physical ability and awareness to play in space and make plays.

The only worry with Posluszny is his knee. He injured his right knee in the Orange Bowl, though it did not require surgery. He’s apparently back at full strength, but still has questions to answer. Physically speaking, he is not lacking in any area, but Posluszny does not possess any standout physical gift either.

Had Posluszny not been hurt last year, he may have declared for the NFL Draft, and was a definite first round pick had he done so. The same should hold true this year. As long as he stays healthy, he will be one of the best defenders available

I personally would jump allover this kid and you put him next to DeMeco, helluva combo

No doubt that he will be one of the best defenders available but I think he is the #2 LB & I just dont think he is worth top 10.
