With the 1st pick in the 2006 draft

It's never too early to look at your team and find out it's weekness and than discuss who to draft to possibly fix it.

I think that with the first pick they will go either receiver or tightend. The texans need someone else to take the pressure off andre and to get open for carr.
Rd.2 The draft is so deep that a good left tackle will fall to the second round and fix our problem their.

after a loss like this I have to disagree :brickwall & I'm a draft junkie. the Texans need to make organizational changes first. this needs to be a Texans team led by Texans. afterall the rest of the country sucks off Texas for the bulk of their collegiate rosters, surely there is some coaching talent in state, maybe the OC from Texas Tech is he available :homer: point is I would like to have some better structure in place before mocking anymore drafts

Yep, That's what Johnson will do SIT. Capers won't play anyone. Imagine if Domanick Davis didn't get a chance. Sorry to say it, but thanks to an injury, he got his chance.

I think we take a LT with our first pick, hopefully one of the big 4 (Ferguson, Winston, McNeill, Scott), because this is also a deep TE draft and we will be able to get Tim Day or Dominique Byrd in the second, both can block and catch.

We draft matt LionHeart the fisrt round and then draft nothing O-line soince its a deep draft o-line anyways but we will have a real qb for once.

LT. No doubt. They are giving Bennie another shot. Dont know why, but they are. We need a better o-line. Right?

And there is no need to use a first rounder on a guard or center.

LT first round.

Why draft another QB just to watch him get beat down behind this horrible excuse for an o-line .....They couldnt block a pop warner team :tomato:

Cause this QB puts touch on his passes. This QB doesnt lock onto WRs. This QB doesnt lock onto RBs coming out of the backfield. And most importantly, this QB knows how to win.

You just described a lot of college QBs, I'm afraid you'll have to be specific. I'll take a couple guesses however because a few players fit that mold.Is this QB Jason White? Or is it Josh Heupel? Danny Wuerffel?

Excuse me. Let me elaborate. This QB uses his legs. Has the highest completion percentage in school history. Has no great WR to go to in tight games and still makes thing happen.

1st + 2nd Rd. We need to select and Lt and C. Then 3rd a TE. Mathis will get better as time goes on so WR will sooner or later be locked

I really like Vince Young ..... I would Really Like to see him wear a Texans uniform BUT I would NOT play him until there was an O-line in place that can BLOCK for him not just stand around acting like they are blocking :texflag:

why don't teams stack 8 or 9 guys in the box against Tech?
and just who is that masked OC out there anyway?
what team has the active career leader in rushing TDs?

The Texans have a LT that was being groomed. He is being sidelined. I think Riley will be out soon, so they will go back to Wand, and he will show big-time improvements this year, if given the chance to play. If anything, Houston needs to look at the TE spot. With AJ pulling so much of the defense to him, that leaves a lot of our guys (Gaffney, Bradford, etc.) open. But having a TE to go to/provide additional blocking would be perfect. This is where the Draft can really help them.

TE is a need position BUT ..... If they dont address the O-line in the coming draft .... they may as well get themselves a new QB . Ive heard just about all the excuses I can stand concerning the O-line and Im sure Carr has too .
Back to the TE position .... I think they SHOULD use a first day pick on one .... just not first round .

If Im David Carr I HOLD OUT for better pass protection ..... and un-like T.O's hold out ... he has a legitimate gripe . :texflag:

teams have tried. last year it worked pretty well for new mexico. but usually with our blocking scheme mike leach will tear that defense to pieces

Nice point.
I'm thinking if we do tank the season, go OT/OT with the first two picks. One of the fab four and the big kid from BC that's tweener OLT/ORT. He'll be on today btw. I know the TE/second receiver crowd will howl, but if they end up with two premiere lineman, we'd be set for ten years. The bigest glaring weakness would turn into a strength in one draft.

I disagree. Here is what i would do.

If we were to get the First Pick, I would trade down to about 5-10(pick up an extra 2nd and third). With the new first rounder I would pick a premier LT. I would then take one of my 2nds and one of my 3rds, and trade back into the first round soemwhere around say 20. With this pick I would take AJ Hawk. Now we will pick again in the second round, so we can pick up another strong Tackle prospect or look to add some youth on the Dline. In the third round, we still have another pick so maybe a nice blocking TE or soem Oline help(if we go way of Dline in rd 2.)

Picking Hawk next year would send me over the edge. Passing up a hometown product like DJ this year, only to take a player nearly identical to his mold(just smaller and slower...) next year would piss me off royally.

If I were in that situation...

5-10 DE Matthias Kiwanuka
20ish McNeill/Scott/Trueblood/Whitworth/Winston (in that order, presuming D'Brick is gone)

This team has soooo many holes to fill .... O-line is probably top priority ..... another recieving threat be in WR or TE BOTH should be addressed ....
there is a DESPERATE need for a play-maker on the defensive side of the ball in ANY of the front seven positions DE , DT , OLB or MLB .

If I were GM I'd look to fill the O-Line position first ....D'Brickshaw Ferguson would be real nice . If not Ferguson ... Marcus McNeill of Auburn 6-9 337 lbs , Jonathan Scott of UT 6'7" 310 or Jeremy Trueblood out of Boston College 6'9" 330 . All of those guy's have first round skills and size .....From what Ive seen of Eric Winston ... Im NOT impressed . Like the current LT's on the Texans roster he has trouble with outside speed .

I'd look for a WR in round 2

Hank Baskett 6'4" 220 out of New Mexico , Maurice Stovall 6'5" 220 of Notre Dame and John Madsen 6'5" 220 from Utah could all be around in the early part of round two .

Round three I'd look to fill a glaring need at TE .....

Matt Herian 6'5" 240 Nebraska , Charles Davis 6'6" 260 Purdue , Cooper Wallace 6'4" 265 Auburn and possibly Uderclassman Leonard Pope 6'7" 250 of Georgia if he decides to come out early .

With their first pick in the 2006 Draft, the Texans will pick...........................................................................................................................a really mediocre linebacker. :brickwall

Could we draft a coach? Why don't they throw coaches into the mix? J/k, somewhat.

A LT and C are in order. As far as QB, Vince Young would be nice, but like someone said earlier if he's put behind on O-line like we have he'll end up not doing so well. I still think Carr has potential and that it can be realized behind an O-line that will give him more time to make decisions and not make him fall flat on his back so many times.

If the Texans do indeed find themselves with the 1st pick of the draft . . . then the following things would have taken place before the pick is selected:

Dom Capers would already have been fired.
Chris Palmer would already have been fired.
Charlie Casserly would already have been fired.

and . . . (drumroll please)

David Carr's contract option would not have been exercised.

"The Houston Texans, with the 1st pick of the 2006 NFL draft, select . . .

Matt Leinert of USC."

And Leinert would look just as horrible as Carr with the current cast of characters .... This team has far too many holes to fill to draft a QB in round one .

And I'd take Vince over Leinert anyhow

With the first pick in the nfl draft the houston texans select a QB, RB, WR, OLINE, TE, DLINE, ILB, OLB, DB, K, P, KR, PR take your pick we need them all. :brickwall :brickwall :brickwall

How about this, the texans draft both vince young and reggie mcneil. then they go ahead and create a new type of offense, lets call it the double q. Now we set both of these guys back there, they can play catch back and forth, make the defense get tired (because we all know they are going to get in the backfield anyways) and then finally throw the ball downfield past the d backs that have been chasing our recivers around and actually get some yards. Thats about all we can do with the the people we call our o line.

I agree that Matt will be a first pick for someone, hopefully us. But with the draft being so deep, could package a 2nd and our 3rd from New Orleans for a late first and get a stud at running back. Then draft some OL's or get some in the free agent market..

No WR ? ..... They need another WR pretty bad .... I'd probably take one in round two ..... Other than that your list is pretty close .

I agree. But I also think we should forget about drafting collage DE and puting them at OLB. Just pick the best linbacker in the draft AJ Hawk. or Chad Greenway
