Both teams are terrible. If Houston loses and they could do you agree we need to start moving players to prepare for future? Regardless of what you think about coaches or HC/GM or players or whom should get what percentage of blame (I think plenty to go around) is it time to move on?

It is for me. I am not angry or surprisingly disgusted. I just don't think we're going anywhere and it's time to change that. I think O' Brien could still sway the McNair's by saying we lost to better team in Kansas City and Baltimore and even Steelers but if we do not win and handily next Sunday, Cal is going to be bombarded even more. It is also easy for me to predict several other losses before we get to Browns. Jags are 50 50 to me..if that.

No use whining about poor contracts as with Cunningham, Mercilus or Martin..history! Same with trade of you know who for you know who coming in...history! Yeah Reader is gone, PJ is scrambling against multiple blockers Blacklock and Greenard were held out...history!

Doesn't matter who is ruining whose career, this season is or soon will be a disaster. Watson and Tunsil are in prime years even with their contracts. Go to overthecap.com and change the dead money and cap saving column to Post June 1 trade for years after 2020.
Tunsil, Watson and maybe McKinney are only trade options that might/should bring in high picks. I posted elsewhere that Watt needed a good game to interest Pittsburgh in trading for him to get them closer to divisional game but JJ couldn't get it done. If we want anything for him needs to be moved before he plays himself out of any value and I mean after October 4th say October..5th! Sure McNairs want to retire his jersey but he might soon be worth only a jersey. Loyalty means he gets paid fifteen million while earning 15,000.

1. Fire O'Brien today (Monday).
2. Crennel not Weaver takes over HC and DC. Do whatever you want with Weaver.
3. OC? Who the --knows? Is Kelly calling what he wants and being held accountable? Would he change if Bill terminated?
4. Trade JJ for what we can get now

and allow Omenihu to take over. We need to see what we have with Blacklock & Greenard.
5. Give out feelers that Laremy and Deshaun could be had for good deals for Houston after June 1 2021. Trade partners select whom we want and swap is made then. Like 2020, draft in 2021 as of now only offer one stand above QB, Trevor Lawrence. Does Carolina, Jets, and Minnesota want to see TL get hurt like Tu'a Tag? Do they hope a little known has season of his life as did Joe B to push the alleged #1 pick out? What about Dolphins? Do they hope Tu'a is better than Watson or even Fitzpatrick?
Watson has a no trade but does he want to risk a re-whatever you call it? Going to NY with new coach [Dabo or his OC] and a new GM that has a first and maybe a second for Sam Donald left after trading for Dashaun could be enticing. Think he could get a few more commercials? Now will his momma let him play there or in sin city? That may prove to be biggest obstacle.
Yeah, I know you want to keep him around but then it back to routine. What coach will come here with this roster and no pick til third? No cap?

Maybe I am just a little angry and disgusted after all.

Edited as I didn't preview.

Was just looking at overthecap for my previous post and it's difficult to not be angry/disgusted at the position the team's been put in for future success by this gm in a very short period of time. We have the 3rd most $ of any team allocated to offense and it isn't any better than before. We have 80MM + less cap space than both Indy and the Jags in 2021 who still have all their draft picks (Jags w/ (2) 1st, 2nd and 4th round picks). It's going to take a little while to dig out of the hole we've been put in and anything should be on the table but not until they have a new coach/gm. The only caveat I would add is that Watson deserves a shot w/ a different coach before being considered for a trade.

No, we extended coach BOB through 2022 (?) so we neeed to stay the course.
By the end of his contract, we will have nothing left to pawn; no need to worry about any trade.
We will have the litter of UDFAs after the draft and we'll be known as the Replacement team.
Won't be worse and we'll be saving all the salaries, which can be used to throw free tailgate parties for all the fans.

I try to be optimistic. But at 0-4 you're not even playing for an outside shot at the playoffs. & we won't be tanking for favorable draft position.

The rest of the season is a waste.

We have no good options. Get rid of O'Brien & make Weaver the interim HC. Make Easterby the interim GM.

& we're still spinning our wheels.

I agree that the season would be a loss but we need to start making moves immediately.

The Houston Kaputs, oh I'm sorry, I meant the Texans, are done for the season. No need for a fork to test. Besides, you don't want any dangerous objects around this bunch, like forks or footballs, they probably wouldn't know what to do with a football anyway.

The team is not in an optimal situation and firing OB in season yields no advantage (other then you know he is gone and that could be enough by itself) unless you have someone in mind who is available now. If you don't have anyone in mind and use Crennel then you freeze all acquisitions/trades (unless for injury) until your new HC has a chance to evaluate the current personnel. I would hope the McNairs would not take any input from Easterby and show him the door too...I have no idea what Easterby's influence is nor his contribution to football operations. Does anyone know the rules for hiring current NFL coaching staff in season? All I can find relates to after the season and the playoffs. Also college coaches typically follow the after season rule.

o'Brien leaving puts team on notice, trading Watt only player we can trade now without eating dead $ and still get something in return will be another shakeup to team and fans.

A new GM and head coach can still depend on current scout dept for this off season. Both must have ability to handle trades of Tunsil and Watson. Using RAC gives team a leader to focus on and is experienced yet I see no reason to keep him around after season.
I believe the only way to sign head coach during season is with permission of that team.
This mess will not be fixed in one season but hope could return.

BoB should be fired at the end of the year. Either Eric Bieniemy or Brian Daboll should be brought in. Both of their systems as OCs for the Chiefs and Bills would be tailor made for DeShaun and the WRs we have.
David Johnson, I've seen enough in these 3 games to know that he is done. He had a nice cut on the TD run yesterday, but he has shown no burst at all.
You can't trade DW4 or Tunsil. DW4 is special, regardless of what some others opinions are of him. Tunsil is a very good LT, his contract also precludes any trade unless the organization wants to eat some money which they're in no position to do.
On the defense, it's the same with JJ. You're not gonna find anybody to take that contract at this time.
Mercilus and McKinney are JAGs, Mercilus maybe less than a JAG at this point. Cunningham is overpaid, but he is better than any other LB on this team.
Its time to see what you have with Omenihu, Blacklock, and Greenard.
As far as the DBs go, there isn't a playmaker at all in the secondary. For all that I hear about Reid, he's extremely inconsistent and he gets burned and misses tackles at a rate that you don't want for a safety.
There's a lot wrong with this team and it's gonna be years before this team is ready to compete. DW4 is a start, but this team used to be a QB away, now they are an everything but QB away. BoB destroyed this team.

You are incorrect on contracts of all three. Tunsil and Dashaun have to be traded to get draft picks in 2020. Like them or not has zero to do with moving team forward. We are moving backwards with them on team for whatever reason. We are not staying even but going in reverse and that is good only in destruction derbies which ends with participants destroyed.

The Texans have never beaten the Vikings. Even when the Texans were 12-4 in 2012.

If the Texans lose their 5th straight game against the Vikings and that L leads to major organization changes, that will be exactly what I need. If they win, that will only prove to me Minnesota should never have traded away their #1 receiver. But at least they got something of value for him.

I disagree. Someone is going to get hurt playing for lame duck O'Brien, if the team in fact gave up on him.

Cal needs to go after Eric Bieniemy! He’s a proven coach, with probably THE most explosive offense in the league.
I thought the same thing, then someone reminded me... That's Andy Reid's show. I don't want to commit to Bienemy then find out he's just doing what Reid is telling him & is lost without him. Kinda like getting stuck with O'Brien who has no idea how to implement the Patriot way.

If OB’s doing the evaluation.....that loud bang would be the bullet going through OB’s foot.
O'Brien will be gone in my scenario and yes Watson is good don't want to side track on that. We have minimal ways to better team due to cap no high picks, so #4 has to go. Keeping him does not allow us to fix the problem.

I wouldn't lose Watson......I would pursue Clemson's OC and DC since both appear ready to make the next step. I believe both would be real coordinators that could improve the Texans production on both sides of the ball.
Even with a better coaching staff we have too many holes. Hopefully Watson trade would allow us to get another QB, but even if not we roll 2021 with AJ McCarron and get QB 2022. We have to stop the bleeding.
What do you think the chances are of getting a QB as good as Watson with one of those picks you trade him for?
We don't know but if not available in 2021 we select young stud we control with a 5th year option and new picks in round two at other dire need positions. We cannot add help for Watson with rounds 3 thru 5 alone. 2022 may offer Trey Lance from North Dakota State a redshirt Soph who may decide to prove he can have another 2019 and move himself up to possible top 5 over all. Oregon's Tyler Shough is a possibility as is Tanner Morgan at Minnesota and let's not forget 'Bama's Mac Jones.

College coordinators as NFL HC's.

Brilliant
Eeeeaseee....read the post first. I like either or both of them as coordinators and believe both would be better than the turds with eyeballs that OB promoted. The Texans would have to try and convince Sweeney to come along with a new GM in place. I know that a new HC would want his own coordinators and it's highly unlikely OB would ever fire his coordinators and hire anyone that didn't go along with him.....you know, highly paid yes men that state OB's shite smells like roses.

OptimisticTexan

Go Texans 1-2...Post OB!!!!!
& we’re going to have to make some deep cuts to get under the cap.
Cut or trade the defensive pieces that have or got big contracts....Watt, Mercilus, McKinney, and Cunningham. Cut or trade the Johnson & Johnson experiment.
Cut or trade the receivers....there's not really one worth keeping.

I really think Watson, OL, and TE's can up their games substantially with better coaching and schemes. My offensive needs would be Center, RG, WR's and RB's. That's 2 drafts worth.

The defense even with or without Watt will be what we are seeing today. DE, ILB, OLB, and CB's will be needed. That's going to take at least 2-3 drafts.

There's going to be dead money issues that will have to be ate.....but who cares. A new GM, DoPP, HC, and staff will make this happen a lot faster.

The odds of getting one as physically gifted as Watson are slim to none and slim just left the building.

The odds of getting one who makes better decisions than Watson are considerably greater.

The odds of that player being cumulatively better than Watson's great physical talents and questionable decision making .... I don't know. You might be on the QB carousel a year or two.

I get what your saying, but there is no trade that we're gonna be able to make where we can land Lawrence or Fields. With the way its looking, the only teams in position to draft one of them 2 that don't already have their QB of the future are the Jets, Falcons, Vikings, Lions, Redskins, and Jags. Of those teams, the Vikings aren't drafting a QB because they owe to much to Cousins still. That still leaves 5 teams that are gonna be looking for a QB next draft. Those teams are gonna want their own brand new Bentley running the show.
Those teams also have draft capital to trade up which is more appealing to other teams than a QB thats already signed to a $40mil/year deal or the highest paid OT in the league. Those 2 are here to stay whether we like it or not. I happen to like it because those are the 2 most important positions in the league and this team actually has those set.

High third and fourth round picks? That still won’t do it...
We will make those trades only for first and second round primary picks or it would not accomplish what we want. Let's not lock on Hopkins as OBrien will be gone and we will hire a GM that can negotiate; no matter who said Nuk had to go.

Sure but moving Watt, Tunsil and Watson & David Johnson saves millions. If moved we should be replacing them with cheap rookie contracts. I think we need a coach that can mould young players as this move reduces roster age average a lot.
The real reason for moving all those players is that by the time this team is "Fixed" all of them will either be old or gone.

Moving them now at least gives you some return instead of them getting old or leaving and jumpstarts the process.

This is a 3-4 year rebuild , I'd normally say 2-3 but they don't have premium draft picks this season and no cap space for the next 2-3 to upgrade that way .... and there's so damn much to fix.

Do you see a trade getting Trevor Lawrence 2021? Would the trade I offered in my 2020 offseason do it? Tunsil and Watson to Jets for 1.1 and 2.33? Think before you yell no. Jets are likely to move Sam Darnold for a second plus they have Seattle's round one. Bechton moves to RT in this scenario. Watson is worth less than first pick but if he has a good 2020 and Tunsil joins him again in pro bowl the latter would be worth much more than 2.33. Adding these two plus still have pick in round one and two fills lots of holes.

Vikings can trade Kirk Cousins after 2020 and eat only $10 m that's a lot but my sources say team becoming fed up with him and he turns 32. A comparison would be Derek Carr in Sin City, good stats but just cannot get team anywhere. They desperately need a left tackle and right tackle for that matter. If we got Lawrence plus their second round and DT James Lynch picked in 4th I would do that in a New York minute. They might get a high second for Kirk. You are looking at correct teams to trade with but probably can eliminate Jags.

Don't overlook those teams don't know what they will draft Bentley or Chevy; if they guess wrong and Washington did with Haskins and Cards did with Josh Rosen.

Jets for example could trade and still have a first from Seahawks and a second plus what they get for Darnold which should be at least a second.

I get that you want to keep LT and QB but we are then settling for more of same for years. They have to go.

I see what you're saying, and IF I could guarantee getting Lawrence or Fields in the draft, then I'd be more open to trading Watson. Trading Tunsil to me is definitely a no go. He may not be the best LT in the league, but he is top 5-7. If we were to bring in a rookie QB, I'd want that rock at tackle that can protect the QB. I don't want to see another QB get beaten up like Carr did and Watson is.

Tunsil Trade 2021/22

Pre June 1 2021 Dead Cap: $9,750,000

You trade them both this offseason post June 1 (best case) you have 8.65m in dead cap for 2021 and 22.7m in 2022.

That's assuming you can actually find a team that would take either of their contracts.

I don't see any way the Texans get their hands on 1:1 in the coming draft.
I thought the signing bonus could continue to be spread due to covid? Thought that was part NFL had agreed to spread as part of losses. If not, 22.7 + about 10 for Tunsil would be hard to swallow.

Non of what anyone thinks can fix the team is going to happen this year, so what's the point? Nothing is going to get resolved without OB's ok for now, and he's not very agreeable these days and the owner doesn't seem to care at this point, maybe next year.

Go Texans 1-2...Post OB!!!!!

.....Jets could trade Darnold for a decent return and draft Trevor Lawrence which would create total delirium in NY. NY advertising companies would be shiteing themselves in preparation to gear up for Namath 2.0!!! Also, wouldn’t hurt the Jets feelings that they also have 5 years of control.

I'd keep tunsil, watson, sharping and howard, everyone else is on the table. What ever draft picks i get back in return I'd package it and get me a stud RB in the draft and make him the focal point of the offense, which means ill probably let go one of cooks/cobbs/fuller/stills.

Watson can just feed of the RB instead of trying to play hero ball

At the very least devlin is gone

This is along the lines of what I'd do .... Knowing we can't get off of the Watson / Tunsil contracts. I'd also keep Akins - I think he's got real potential , particularly in a WCO type system.

Have to start up front - fix the C spot and another quality OG to go with that stud RB.

No more of this stupid pistol RPO crap where we don't apply the principals of the system - we're getting under center , pounding the rock using a lot of 2 TE sets and using a heavy dose of play action off of that.
Simplify the offense and build an identity of beating teams in the trenches. Control the ball & the clock .... make teams desperate. Watson can play superman when plays break down but otherwise - stick to the script.

All of the WR's would be part of the salary dump - along with Johnson and Johnson.

The defense is a bit more complicated .... but I'd start with a fire sale dumping salary - Watt , Mercilus , McKinney - move them for what I can get which probably isn't much - maybe a contender would take Watt for a 3rd or 4th to bolster a playoff run ?
Mercilus / McKinney return much less and you eat some dead money on Mercilus but this is about clearing the deck for the near future.
