Will the Texans get desperate in their search of a GM and HC?

Go Texans 1-2...Post OB!!!!!
Hope you are right but ultimately it is still the same playbook and the same players executing those plays. The big difference I hope helps is OB was reported to come in and change everything up on Friday after the team had practiced all week. Hopefully without that they can execute the plays better.

I would have loved to have signed Bell last time he was a free agent but the price was to high. Now even at the vet minimum he just isn't worth it. If we have any hope at all of going anywhere this season I'd say yeah kick the tires but realistically we are playing to screw the fins over. We are already going to have cap issues with some hard choices to be made so why spend more money on a season that is more or less shot anyway? Save the cash and either resign play makers already here, whoever those are, or bring in someone that isn't on the down hill slope.

Hell why not just wait till we have a new HC and see what kind of team they want before bringing anyone in. Could be that while a power back was perfect for OB the new coach has no use for one. This isn't the time to be kicking the tires on any player this is the time to be shopping to see if we want a car, truck or SUV and then once thats decided go kick some tires.

Devlin is still here and still "coaching". I don't think any Oline can work as long as those two factors are against them.
1. Funny when you brought up OB changing his gameplan on Friday, this came to mind. OB was a coach for Belichick and during that time, he might've seen enough to make him nervous. In OB's mind....I'll just out smart the guy that was probably secretly taping my practices this week and change the gameplan on Friday. Confused the offense more than any defense.......were defenses ever confused or bewildered?

2. Bell would be cheap for the rest of this season. He'd also be a solid addition in the event either Johnson&Johnson were to go down. Signing him now would have little to no impact on their cap for the rest of this season.

3. The OL didn't look horrible on Sunday.....the first game without OB. This reminds me of how the change in offensive philosophy absolutely changed the way a far worse OL looked during Watson's first 6 games. This unit has far more talent and with a change in how the offense is handled....it could make a big difference going forward. The Titans on Sunday will be a good barometer as to the Week 2 growth.

1: You maybe right and with a plug and play simple style offense you can do that because you zig when the defense thinks you will zag but the game plan is simple enough that your team and zig and zag at a moments notice. The offense OB ran was to complex for that kind of moments notice changing.

2. I still don't think its worth the hassle particularly since we don't know who would be handling the contracts. Also Bell has never been cheap any where he went and just because he didn't look good on the Jets doesn't mean he thinks his stock has dropped, I mean it is the Jets after all. In the end I think it would be another Clowney type situation and thats not worth it to me.

3: No they didn't look horrible but it was also the Jags, pretty sure a high school line would look decent against them. Doesn't even have to be the Oline it could be the drum line and Jags might not get to the QB. You're exactly right that Titans will be a much better standard which to judge but even then look at how they did the first 4 games. I'm sorry but OB being gone is not going to suddenly make the line click nor make Devlin a good coach.

At least all the movements and play action lessen the burden on the O line.
They have a little chance now; better than slim to none. :ahhaha:

Cutting Duke Johnson allows $4.1 (adjusted)m for Bell now. IIRC that amount is subtracted from what Jets owe him so he gets paid. He is worth bringing on board but I would try for multi year deal.

Keep in mind that the Texans hired Jed Hughes, search firm Korn Ferry vice chairman, to "assist" the search.............and they were instrumental in identifying and recommending the hiring of O'Brien.

I have gotten word that there are other members of the search party besides McNair, Easterby and Crennel. I won't post them until I confirm it with a second source.

Some would say that if your not cheating you are not trying hard enough.

“Cheating” is trying to get an edge without breaking the rules. Just like steroids though, if everyone is doing it you may need to as well. It doesn’t make it right, but at least you will have a job.

Astros got the book thrown at them because no one cares about Houston except Houstonians. It is easy to make us the villain.

Had it been New York it would have been more of a non-issue, don’t look here, everyone is doing it, and rules made to prevent it going forward. Same with Boston.

And that’s why there wasn’t a deep investigation into Boston and what they did.
Why as Houstonians do you think you are hated?

Houstonians weren’t hated until the Astros thing where we have owned the Yankees and beat the Dodgers in the WS. We pissed off two major fan bases - LA and NY. The MLB probably lost money by us winning and not having a major market like LA or NY win. We were able to be the scapegoat and whipping boy of a league wide problem because our market isn’t anywhere the size of LA and NY.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if people are still pissed about the Rockets beating the Knicks and holding a grudge.

Until the Astros thing no one really cared or knew we existed for the most part. The Texans are (used to be for sure) the commercial break for the NFL draft.

I have no faith in the Texan organization to do the right thing intentionally. Which doesn't mean they can't luck out and hire a genius coach an GM by accident. Which, IMO, is the only way it will happen.

And it could. We're in a wait and see game now. I really would like to see the Texans will a SB before I board the big spaceship in the sky. Seen the Astros and Rockets do it, just waiting on the Texans now.
Build a time traveling machine. That may be the only option as long as the McNair’s own the team.

Cheating is cheating. Everyone else is doing it didn't work when I was kid and not now. The fact some condone it SMH.
I not only condone it, I embrace it. All I can say to the haters is KISS the RING.

I cant wait to take a rat to throw on the field when Fiers faces the Stros. The Stros should embrace being hated and have a promotion where a tiny garbage can and small bat are handed out to fans and fans could beat on the can all game long.

LOL...only you and delusional haters think Watson is a "reclamation" project...lol.
What makes you think differently.

DW4's got a lot of work to do if he ever is going to be a top tier QB. The blame fell on BOB for not developing DW4 and BOB paid with job for DW4 not improving.

The next HC will most likely suffer the same fate. There's a term that HC's in the NFL use to describe what DW4 is now and most likely what he will be in the future. Can you guess what this term is?

Tell you what.....when Watson is blessed with the talent that has surrounded Mahomes and Jackson, that's when my Watson assessment clock starts ticking. Why I have such a hard time taking your assessment seriously......if Watson were to be made available, the Texans being the Texans, NFL teams needing a QB1 would come knocking looking to properly rape the organization as the FO willfully lower their pants when they open the door. Getting serious again, you think SF wouldn't talk to the Texans if Watson was available? How about the Lions, Vikings, Bears, Cowboys, etc. Most everyone involved with the NFL holds Watson in high regards. They take his situation with the Texans into consideration and continue to speak highly of Watson. Sure he has some warts but his upside is still tremendously exciting.

I don't think that's necessarily factual.

Ask yourself this - when was the last time you heard anyone badmouth another coach , player or franchise ?

If Watson was made available , I have no doubt that more than one team would emerge and give him a shot .... But much of that is just the nature of the position and the demand for quality at the position. There's 32 teams and maybe 5 tier one QB's. Everyone else is chasing that QB.
Watson definitely has the prerequisite physical ability ....

But there are just as many teams who would have absolutely no desire to take Watson on regardless of the QB on their rosters.

And those teams wouldn't win any championship's either.

I'm not so sure that teams would be willing to risk 160 million on DW4. On his rookie contract yes, on that contract maybe some fool might.

BTW, you make it seem like the Texans are devoid of talent on the offensive side of the ball and that's not the case.

More than one team would “give him a shot”? . Yeah, that’s a rather massive understatement.

Your “just as many teams would pass” on him is pure hyperbole. Regardless of QB or rosters? Where do you come up with this stuff?

Your point of view is highly tainted and slanted, this is why no one will take your opinion seriously.

Was Dan Marino a horrible QB b/c he failed to win a SB? Miami’s biggest mistake during the Marino era....they never thought a running game was imperative, it back fired. I always said, Marino was an Earl Campbell away from having a trophy case with than a couple of Lombardi Trophy’s.

Am I comparing Watson to Marino? Hail no, but their situations could be close since they’re still with the teams that drafted them.

He's been in Houston longer than he was at Clemson. Fact is I'm actually rooting for him to succeed but after seeing what I've seen it's not going to happen.

The NFL isn't Clemson. But if he only had a different HC or this player or that player he would be great. Is that the narrative you're trying to push?

I don't get it either. Seems weird being a fan of a team that a QB supposedly got his HC fired, who will never win a Super Bowl team, who will never amount to anything, who cannot adapt and is crippling the salary cap with his $160 million dollar contract. It must be weird to watch your favorite team while hoping the QB makes a turnover, gets hurt or contributes to losses.

You would think it would be healthier to watch Nate Peterman sitting on the Raiders bench and hope he gets some snaps to display his untapped awesomeness or watch Jimmy G. Oh wait. Jimmy G got benched last week. NVM.

It seemed to matter mostly to OB and the McNairs.....me, I didn’t have a say but I’m a-ok with the fact he’ll be in Houston after OB was kicked to the curb. Maybe, the Texans will shore their ineptitude up and finally surround Watson with a better team.

Are you saying no meaningful play off victories in the next 4 years? Or just no Super Bowls?

I mean it is what it is, but I wouldn't think they're "long years" if we get to the AFCCG three of those 4 years.

Our new HC & GM need to focus on team building more than finding a better QB.

Or are you saying 4 years of 9-7 sneaking into the playoffs once in the next four years?

Not with DW4 making 40 million per yr.
Let separate the issues here:
1. You and corrosion claim that Watson is a bad QB (especially you) such that a team can't win big with him.
That is already a half untruth.
In 2018, he was already good enough when his pay was still peanuts.
The Texans lost in the playoffs because they can't surround him with enough talents and the HC/OC/Offensive line coach suck.
They had all that money they didn't have to pay Watson, so where did it go?

2. Now that the former GM had royally screwed up all the cap space, including by giving Watson that big contract while leaving him with a bunch of mostly high-paying JAGs, Watson all of a sudden became a bad QB?
..........

It is hard to win a SB even if you have a team full of talent, you don't really need to put all the onus on him.

Sure, myself, I will also put extra pressure on him, but not to the extend of trying to blame him for everything.

I expect a new GM and HC to do whatever it takes to make the offense goes (like the Saints did a few years ago, but with a mediocre-to-poor defense).
They will just have to build a bend-but-don't break defense with players that might be inconsistent, but can make big plays on occasions.
Then hope that the offense can score enough points.
Heck, at least it will be entertaining to watch.
