Will Anderson vs Jalen Carter

No. But reckless driving and street racing causing death is. At least where I'm from, that could lead to a vehicular homicide or involuntary manslaughter charge... Guessing it probably won't get that far, but damn. Young males are stupid animals at that age (I know I was).

He was charged with 2 misdemeanor reckless driving charges.

He left the combine to take care of this matter.

From possibly first overall to off teams first round grades altogether in one, tragic, life changing move. Hopefully the facts will come out and clear his name but damage done, worst kind of red flag 🚩

Mistakes made by young people should be forgiven.

The reason this accident happened was because the young lady that died chose to drive recklessly. Nothing more or less.

Well, at least this isn't as bad as Henry Ruggs’s fatal accident that killed a woman and her dog when he drove a car up to 156 miles per hour above the speed limit (!!). Hopefully for Carter he won't face additional charges as an accessory to manslaughter. Still, a bad reflection on doing this crap to begin with.

I don't think he's yet been sentenced, as sentencing was pushed back in this year. But he faces like 50 years in prison.

A guy (maybe?) races cars, endangering everyone on the road- still good with @steelbtexan

A guy has an agent @steelbtexan doesnt like- not good with @steelbtexan

Do I have that right?
I believe in forgiving young people for the stupid mistakes they make. Lord knows I made enough of them. Fortunately nobody died. Good to know you didn't make stupid mistakes.

BTW, there's a big difference between a kids making a stupid mistake and an adult agent helping his client beat a sexual assault rap.

So yes, you got it right.

I never said I never made mistakes, and I never said that we shouldn’t have the ability to forgive- I just find the difference here interesting. I get the sense that if Carter was from Clemson you’d be singing a different tune as well.

I find street racing a far more serious thing than someone’s agent choice (I’m talking about Stroud here, not Watson). Street racing can- and has- led to innocent deaths, the deaths of everyday people just living their lives.

Regardless of details, yet to be forthcoming from verified source, doubtful Jalen Carter will be on da Bears board #1 overall or Texans board #2 overall.

Teams war rooms are just going to push Bryce and CJ Stroud up that much higher to #1 & #2 regardless team holding their draft card.

Street racing and souped up cars have been going on since before I was a kid in the 60's. We're growing soft as a society and demasculating men. As I'm growing old it's really hitting me at the lose of social freedom I grew up with.

Beating the hell out of one’s wife was also pretty common back in the day. Is society “demasculating men” by punishing wife-beaters?

Not the same at all and you know this

My point is that some things that were previously acceptable are now unacceptable, and that does not mean we are “demasculating men”.

Street racing shows a remarkable lapse in judgement and puts others at risk. That’s not ok. Young people do stupid things; that’s fine, I’m not saying Carter (if this is indeed proven to be true) deserves the death penalty or anything, but it should be a red flag, and it is much more concerning to me than a player’s choice in agents.

How many college students have not ever been to a frat party and done stupid stuff? Only a minority are born with the gift of advanced maturity and avoid the foibles of youthfulness.

Carter had a history of speeding. A lesson that hopefully he has now learned watching friends die. He’ll get a chance to prove he has changed. But it’s unlikely that will be in Houston.

Who here is saying that young people don’t do stupid stuff?

Young people do stupid things, but that doesn’t make those stupid things ok- they are still stupid… which is why we call them stupid things.

My only point was that it’s interesting to me that an act that literally puts people’s life at risk is less of a red flag for @steelbtexan than Stroud’s choice in agents. That, to me, is an odd ranking of priorities.

So these two vehicles were driv8ng recklessly at high speeds. Carter did not wreck his vehicle. His teammate, Tue one he was racing got in a wreck & died. Is that what happened?

Carter drove off & then drove back to the scene, correct?

Carter didn't hit someone & they died, right?
Even if Carter avoids criminal charges you can bet that there will be serious civil litigation here because poor Jalen Carter is soon to become the very rich young Mr Jalen Carter and whoever is the local jurisdictions version of Tony Busby back there in GA is already licking his chops about the opportunity to represent the family of a deceased young white woman.

What is my culture?

Domestic violence was common in the United States, and I’m shocked that someone would try to argue that.
I was not denying, or to use your word, arguing, that domestic violence did not exist. I stated it was not common or tolerated in the culture I was raised in, one of Christian middle class morality.

Enough said. Need to get back to Texans football.

OK Steel it's late April in Indy and the Texans are getting ready to select somebody with their 12th overall pick and Jalen Carter is still undrafted, a free man and even uncharged by the GA authorities for the "Stupid mistake" he made.
I want to know what are you going to do with that 12th overall pick ?

After picking either Anderson or Wilson at1-2 , I'm running the card up to the podium with Carter's name on it and my DL will be in great shape for the next 10 years.

In fact if he falls to 7 or 8 I'm looking at trading up for him.

Right on cue, the timing of these revelations being made make me question the intent. As far as the incident, the biggest issue (not only) for me was the young lady (the driver) of the vehicle that had the fatalities was drunk. When I was much younger I was involved in a street race that led to an accident. The driver of the other vehicle hit a curb, lost control, ripped off his rear axle and did a 360 before coming to a stop. I immediately stopped to see if he was ok and put out triangles to block the lane until help arrived. Luckily no one was hurt. That was the second time and the last time I ever raced on a street. As for Carter, I've never been a big fan but purely because I think he plays off balance too much IMO for a player of his talent and I think any OL with superior technique will use that against him. He has maturing to do just as most young adults.

Yep.
Tunsil comes to mind.

I like it but damn I wish you were in Casserios ear instead of it being Cal.
I dunno I wonder if DeMeco could persuade Cal to go along with drafting Carter ?

How do you know he's not going to pull a Jerome Brown?

Most street racing I was involved in was stop light to stop light. Cross traffic was never at risk and the cars the rarely exceeded 60 mph in that distance. It was always about e.t, who got to the next light first. Was it smart, no, dangerous, not really. We are talking about a race less than a city block.

The guys with the really "hot" rods always met off site in a safer place. This was demonstrated in the movie "American Graffiti" a very good movie about that period of time. Ours was the rubber plant road where there was a miles long stretch with no cross traffic. We actually measured a 1/4 mine distance and painted a stripe across the road. Cops never bothered us there. Todays dragracing is nothing like it was then. All professional, We built our own cars.

I understand that's the way they've done things in the past. Hopefully now, they'll go into an interview with him & talk to him before they make up their mind.

A good lawyer should be able to prove he wasn't at fault, if he wasn't at fault.

Y'all should look up street racing on youtube. A lot of it happens right here in Houston. This would not change my mind about Carter one bit. & it might get the Colts to start thinking about staying put at #5.

Don't get me wrong. My heart goes out to the families of the two that died. But I'm not blaming Carter any more than the guy behind the wheel of the other vehicle.

Not sure what you are saying, it wasn't a "guy" behind the wheel of the second vehicle, but a young woman and she was drunk. Drunk driving, crashing and killing both herself and her passenger. There is a distinct difference between the two drivers and "blame".

Yes. Carter is not to be blamed for the other person getting behind the wheel drunk & racing through the streets of Georgia

He’s responsible for reckless driving. He’s responsible for his part in racing through Georgia. But he’s not responsible for the deaths of the two adults in the other car.

This is how I see it.

You can say this about any prospect.
Again, that's the point. Thing is, you have stated multiple times about none of these qbs are Elway or Young being small which means his body can't hold up. There are no guarantees in a draft, especially nfl. Carter to me and I've said it before, he's not a dominant player even in college. Now the red flags about his judgement is in question by his actions. Not because of his agent, because of course being in a college town, things get covered up like his teammate last year Wyatt. Young people create life lessons, so I'm not going to eliminate him from the nfl, but his judgement is highly questionable. His motor is questionable. His production is questionable also. Add it all up, his tumble could be that of Tunsil who was just smoking weed, not racing.

Perhaps the national scouts and experts are all smoking weed?

At least with Tunsil, his tape was unquestioned, but he lost draft positioning because the video leaked. I've never smoked weed, never thought it wasn't anything wrong with it, but this country still has it in the category with heroin and acid, so that says something right there. Today, this country doesn't think of weed the same way as it did 5 years ago.

I would sub the word was for the word is. Domestic violence is a huge issue today, and I hope like hell none of our fellow Texans Talk posters engage in that. I also don’t buy even in the slightest way, the argument about masculinity.

That’s incredibly insulting to the guys out there that show smarts, make good decisions, go to work and contribute positively to society. I see some of this same attitude with the Covid shots, environmental issues, animal rights, etc. its like some guys are so insecure intheir manhood, that anything can suddenly be seen as effeminate. Totally ridiculous.

Show me a guy that helps a senior cross the street, mentors a child, mends a broken wing on a duck, or loves his wife and doesn’t fool around on her and I’ll show you real masculinity, not this fake machismo crap some of you are pushing.
