Who do we draft if we sign FA's?

2 big problems that we need to address is in the secondary and the OLine. The DLine could use some help as well, but I think that could be easily addressed through the draft. The secondary and OLine are two areas that could really use a veteran leader so we don't have to go through the growing pains of rookies.

I'd much rather get a CB in FA instead of the draft, and if we do, safety isn't at the top of my "to draft" board. However, if it's the other way around (sign safety) we'd still have to get a CB at some point.

Even if we do get a OT and CB, there would be several other need areas. DL,FS,RB,QB,LB. That's pretty much every other position, so if we do acquire a starting OT and CB, I would just go with BPA at every spot or trade back a few spots and get an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd. However, if brass is high on Dayne, Gado, Taylor, and expect Domanick Whatever His Lastname Is to be back, I doubt we go RB with a high pick unless Peterson drops.

1-Brian Brohm QB
2-HB Blades SLB
3-Michael Johnson FS
4-Brandon Mebane DT

Brohm gives us the poised QB we've been looking for. Blades can play SLB and is very Demeco like at that position. Instinctual tackling machine. Johnson is an up and coming FS who should be a good all around player. May not be Landry, but an upgrade over Brown. Mebane gives us a pass rush DT to play next to Mario. If Kareem Brown is still there, jump all over him.

It's not a sexy draft, but I think it's pretty realistic. No LB's or DT's worth taking at 8. Kubiak never takes RB's early and we're already stacked with them. We can take a good FS later, so the logical choice would be to upgrade at QB.

Anybody else wanna add anything?

Brandon Mebane DT. Mebane is a true 3-4 Nose tackle. Everyone running the 3-4 is going to covet the guy. I don't think he makes into the forth round myself. Which Johnson who does he play for ? Both Brom and Blades are excellent picks.

I thought Brohm wasn't coming out? I would like to see us get Nate Clements in free agency and if that was to happen and you dont want to upgrade the saftey position with the 8th pick, go for a guy like Alan Branch from Michigan...he's a solid Defensive tackle that would take alot of pressure off of Mario and we should actually get a decent pass rush, in theory that should make our defensive backs alot better...thats just my thought...or you can upgrade the saftey position in the first with Landry or Nelson and go for Okye in the second round...i dont knw thats something i would do, if he just so happened to slip that far...

mebane is undersized at 6 feet even and isnt a huge guy to be a 3-4 NT IMO. he's like 295 pounds. Michael Johnson is the FS from Arizona. Give Lork some credit for bringing him to my attention. He prolly has more info on him than me.

I don't think the dust has settled entirely on who's in the pool and who isn't. I expect him to go back. But it's still early.

i havent heard if brohm is coming out or not, but with quinn sucking and next years qb crop being deep, i think he should come out.

Im very glad you picked up on Michael Johnson, Im very high on this guy. He reminds me alot of Kerry Rhodes, a true gamer with good size who will get hurt by measurables (most notably speed). However, If we can get him in the 3rd, it allows us to turn our attention in the 1st elsewhere. I'm also big on Mebane, he's impressed me all season long. Unfortunately, he might not last til the 4th (hopefully he does). Not sure if Brohm comes out either (said he wouldn't, might change his mind). Overall, a very solid plan I like alot.

im really starting to think that instincts play more than measurables. demeco vs carpenter being a prime example. mccauley is going to be another one of those types.

True, and thats why I used the example of Kerry Rhodes. He has good size and played great in college, but his speed was questionable and he wasn't a workout warrior. Instead, he drops to R4, and has been amazing for NYJ ever since. The guy is a gamer who can flat out play, and that's why I like Johnson so much.
