Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

You guys follow this Facebook fan page of the Texans? They are close to the FO it seems.

“If you thought this week was crazy, you’re in for a treat next week! Monday opens the tampering period, Texans have SEVERAL key names lined up and ready to pounce! Just spoke with two players who said the front office is gearing up for a fast a furious approach!“

This is the same guy I told you all about last season. Dude is getting his info off of Twitter and using it as his inside source.

Too soon for the annual “Texans front office is sitting on their hands, useless bunch of know nothings, wasting FA?” comments??

Not sure posted but Miami looking to trade RT Juwan James who allegedly healed from hamstring. On his 5th year option at $9.3 million. If healthy, I am very interested. If no trade, Dolphins prob will cut to create cap room.

I can’t believe how Boston signed a 1 year prove it deal for 900k and he absolutely proved it. He’s gonna make a lot more this offseason. Wish our Texans had known he was a diamond in the rough.
Now's time to bring him here. Most of guys I want are 26-27 in prime coming off great year & we can offer lots of guaranteed money. Come on 4pm Tomorrow.

True

Texans have nobody we wish to trade.

The ones we would trade..... no one is interested in. Most like Oz, we'd have to pay someone to take them.:)

:coffee:

It appears the majority of trades are picks for vet players. It shouldn’t be a high round pick necessary given what others have gone for. I bet a 5th or 6th in 2019 could get it done.

Chargers CB Casey Hayward signed a 3 year/36 million extension.

Richard Sherman signed for 3 years/39 million.

It appears we now have a market set for the surplus of quality CBs set to hit FA.

$5 million signing bonus and
Armed with $66 million in cap space, 49ers general manager John Lynch was able to throw any number at Sherman. He found a fit at $39 million over three years, including a $5 million signing bonus. Sherman represented himself in contract talks, negotiating without an agent and adding intrigue to the details of his new deal.

Sherman's contract is an incentive-laden prove-it deal -- if he makes the Pro Bowl in 2018, $16 million in base salary is guaranteed from 2019-2020, per Pelissero -- which offers the corner a chance to earn more than he would have in Seattle if he achieves, but also gives San Francisco protection in case he doesn't. More details from Pelissero: Richard Sherman’s deal includes a $5M signing bonus, plus $2M base salary, $2M in 46-man roster bonuses, $1M playtime incentive and $3M Pro Bowl incentive in 2018. So #49ers get protection, and Sherman gets upside to beat his #Seahawks deal if he plays well. Win-win.
This smart deal and allows 49rs to protect themselves some. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...chard-sherman-joining-49ers-on-3year-39m-deal

From PFF:

Johnson has all the traits of an elite corner, and the fact that he was franchised twice already might suggest he is one, but nothing in our grading agrees with that evaluation. In fact, it can be argued that Johnson was the weak link in the Rams’ secondary at times last year. He gave up at least 79 yards in four separate games and his 759 yards allowed were fifth-most among all corners. He’s a solid starter, but is not worth near what he got paid the past two seasons. 74.2

65 tackles, 14 passes defended, 2 INTs with one TD, and one forced fumble.

Then why even mention contender? They’re all looking for the most money. Well most are anyway.

Ummm, what? My point was individual player impressions of contenders may be very different than the general public. And one difference is I think many believe turnarounds can happen much faster than fans.

I agree most money probably governs 90+% of decisions. I do think climate preference, family, contention, etc. come in where offers are close.

Man I wish we would of sent of a 4th this year and a 7th next year for Landry. And what the hell? A 2019 3rd for Danny Shelton?? I honestly haven’t kept up with Shelton but dam he was a solid prospect.

Something no one seems to be talking about is if (fingers crossed it doesn’t happen) watt goes down we don’t really have any depth on the DL. And if watt and Clowney go down wow. Shelton for a future 3rd as insurance sure sounds good to me.

Hopefully we can pull in one of the veteran DL out there. Dontari Poe, Muhammad Wilkerson, Star Lotulelei,
DaQuan Jones are all guys that could really help and I don’t see any of them getting huge contracts.

I got that. I agree. Just don’t see why he said contender. SF is no more a contender than Cleveland.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien anticipates fruitful free agency

Coach Bill O'Brien is eager to see how much the Texans can improve on both sides of the ball and on special teams when free agency begins Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The Texans are planning to use free agency and the draft (April 26-28) to fill needs as they approach the start of the offseason program April 2.

The Texans are about $66 million under the salary cap, which gives new general manager Brian Gaine ample room to sign free agents to fill needs in areas like the offensive line and secondary.

"We're excited about where we are," O'Brien said Sunday night before a Special Olympics benefit. "We evaluate our roster and try to make the best decisions for our team.

"We're looking forward to an exciting offseason."

O'Brien is a celebrity co-chair at the annual event for Special Olympics of Texas with former Oilers Mike Munchak and Bruce Matthews. O'Brien got a lot of questions about free agency at the event.

Because the Texans have enough room under the cap to sign two or three high-priced free agents, fans are excited about the possibilities.

"I don't get too wrapped up in the buzz about free agency or the draft, but it's great for the fans," O'Brien said. "I think the way the NFL markets free agency, the draft and combine is great for the game.https://www.chron.com/sports/texans/article/Texans-coach-Bill-O-Brien-excited-for-free-12745290.php

1. I think the best non-quarterback in free agency is New England left tackle Nate Solder. After quarterback, in some order, the most valuable positions to fill on the football field are edge-rusher, cornerback and left tackle. There is no top-10 NFL pass-rusher on the unrestricted free-agent market. There is no top-10 NFL cornerback on the unrestricted free-agent market. But there is a top-10 NFL left tackle on the market—it’s borderline, but I’d include him after his tremendous Super Bowl performance—and it’s Solder.

I figured the Patriots would have Solder singled against the Eagles’ right-side edge rushers because of New England’s respect for Fletcher Cox, and that’s what happened. Of 75 snaps in the Super Bowl, I counted Solder getting help on five snaps, and I counted Solder giving up one quarterback hit and two significant pressures. That’s a terrific job against a strong front. The Patriots want him back, but Bill Belichick’s history is to not pay vets of a certain age (Solder will play at 30 this season).

I bet Houston will be all over Solder. The Texans haven’t replaced a solid left tackle Duane Brown after dealing him the Seattle at the trade deadline last October, and don’t have a pick till 68th overall in the third round, and so will have to make some hay in free agency. Bill O’Brien and Solder overlapped on the Patriots during Solder’s rookie season of 2011 and the Texans coach has high regard for him, I’m told. There’s one other X factor: Solder’s son Hudson, 2, is undergoing treatment for kidney cancer, and the boy’s treatment base is in Boston now. So that could play a role too—although other NFL cities have pediatric cancer units, to be sure. I’m told Solder is wide open and will consider all options.

I’m told Solder is wide open and will consider all options. But I’m also told the Patriots are being quite aggressive in their attempt to keep him. Gut feeling: Barring a crazy-money offer from the Giants or Texans (or a mystery team), which could happen, Solder returns to the Patriots. They know they need him more than any of their significant free agents, like Danny Amendola and Dion Lewis.

Teams like Green Bay, Tennessee, Tampa and Houston are doing a lot of work at the corner position; one of them is likely to land Trumaine Johnson and I have a hunch it may be the Texans, who badly need defensive upgrades after injuries and free-agent defections (A.J. Bouye) weakened that unit in 2017.

If healthy what would you part with ?

Since Landry brought a 4th and a 2019 7th, I think a 4th should get a deal done. but i would start out offering a 6th. What do you think it will take? Keep in mind that Miami will be cleaning 9.25 mil off of their books.

I think they want picks also and there is no 5th round pick so trying a 6th would be a good starting place .
