I was gonna make this a poll where you can make multiple selections, but didnt know how, or if it was even possible
.. so here are your choices.
Defensive Coordinator
Defensive Line Coach
Special Teams Coach
Linebackers Coach
Wide Receivers Coach
Secondary Coach
I did not include Quarterbacks coach or Offensive Coordinator cause those are Kubiak's job and we arent replacing him
. I also didnt include Oline coach because if Sherman wants to stay, we are gonna keep him.. and if he doesnt want to stay, then it is a given that we will be replacing him.. so not much point on debating it here.
My selections for coaching changes are:
Wide Receivers Coach: I know that there is a bit of that "Good Old Boys Syndrome" going on here, but it is for that very reason that Capers is a defensive coordinator again, so I hope Kubes wont fall into that same trap. Just, move the kid somewhere else..make him an assistant, im sure you can find a job for him that will still put him to use and get a new WR coach. The reason I think it is important to replace him is because
A) Andre still catches with his body.
B) Jerome Mathis is hard headed.
Id like to see us bring in a real veteran WR coach that can break Andre of his habit and teach him to catch with his hands, and also get through to Mathis and make him a valuable part of our offense.
My next selection is the Defensive Line Coach. It was a toss up between this guy, and just replacing the Defensive Coordinator all-together. In the end I decided that Richard Smith has not been horrible, and I know he has an aggressive philosophy to defense, and I think he will bring that to the table here eventually.. but I didnt see much technical improvement from Mario Williams all season long.. and I didnt see Babin and Peek put to very good use either. Maybe there are other factors involved, but better safe than sorry in my opinion.. in my 5 years as a Texans fan, ive seen enough "coaches ruining promising prospects" to never want to see it again, ever. So lets make sure we have someone training Williams right. If Williams can became a hall of fame DE, it may help unruffle the feathers of the VY and Bush supporting branch of the Texans fanbase.
Finally, my last selection is the Defensive Backs coach. Now, I know we all like Hoke.. he did wonders with Robinson coming out of college, and we kept him for that reason. However, since then he has been responsible for 2 unexcusable mishaps.
A) The trade for Philip Buchanan
B) The steady deterioration of Robinson's cornerbacking abilities.
Again, I dont want to see a young prospect ruined.. and if the Philip Buchanan fiasco isnt reason enough to replace him, then just go back and look at the terrible angles our CBs have been taking on WRs all year long.
That is my list of Coaching changes we need to make in the offseason. What about you?
