What could help turn us around?

Ok, so this is our opportunity for some creative suggestions to help Mr. McNair turn around our team. The theme is accountability.

1. Sit down and have OB explain to him and Cal, how one of the best defenses in the league has turn into one of the worst. Next show some accountability, fire RC and either hire a new DC or promote Vrabel. We need someone who will get these guys going asap.

2. Work closer with OC on play calling. OB did a pretty good job last year, but this year I'm not sure Godawful has figured out how to help the QBs/offense get in rhythm.

3. Release Mallet. Bring in several QBs and find a back-up. You can't be a leader on the team and continually FU. OB needs to do the right thing.

4. Put Rick Smith on notice.

5. Find a TE that can catch the ball.

6. Start playing the young WRs more. Nate Washington played his ass off today, but he's a one year gap filler. We need Mumps and Strong to start getting more targets to see what they can do.

7. Poor tackling, angles and reactions killed us on defense today. Put everyone not named Watt, Clowney, Joseph, Crick and Cushing on notice. Is Wilfork doing anything? I keep seeing him being pushed out of the play. Where is that NT anchor we needed. Calling Pickett yet Rick?

That's all I've got for now. I'm sure the board will have many other great ideas, but STATUS QUO better not be an option.

short term:

-release Mallet and RC...relieve Godsey of his playcalling duties...

-Get this team back to the basics...pursuit and tackling drills...walk-throughs of responsibilities. JJ is great, but they need to get him under control...he vacates his gap responsibilites too much trying to get up field and get sacks TFLS...which is leaving big holes for guys to run through.
- Bring in a new safety b/c moore is terrible.

Offensively, spread it out.. We couldnt run the ball with Arian and we damn sure aint gonna be able to run it without him...We probably wont fair much better on offense, but at this point it just seems like we're banging our head against the wall trying to run it.

Not sure how much thats going to help this trainwreck of a team, but at this point it couldnt hurt.

Long term:

-Fire Rick Smith...probably OB as well and start fresh...

- Draft a qb in 1st, O-linemen in 2nd and 3rd round
- release Cush, Arian, Hoyer, J-jo, Crick, Dent, Moore, and Graham for sure
-bring in some goddamn speed...tired of seeing this slow ass team

I think we should tell McNair he can't have a new stadium, further screw up the turf to give him an out, then call the next team the TEXAS _______, or the Pearland_______, maybe the Bellaire_______, or Conroe_____, anything but Houston.

What could help turn this around?

1. Fire rick smith.

2. Create a board of members and consultants sparring no expense to assess, gm candidates and pick one based on performance - not politics, friendship, or bedside manner. I could give a damn less if everyone hates him. All i want are results. Sale that candidate no matter the cost. The moon is yours. He will have full authority like normal team structures do.

3. The new GM and board of members will draw up guidelines / bylaws restricting bob/cal from football operations. You hired people to do it...so let them do it. Dont know if bob and co meddle or not but lets eliminate that possibility. New structure based on accountability and transparency.

4. The new GM will assess ALL PERSONEL. Every coach, player, scout, water boy will be reviewed. Every policy and habbit will be evaluated.

5. Identify replacements and secure them.

6. All unnecessary personell will be let go.

7. This WILL NOT be a complete regime overhaul. I dont want to lose a good lb coach because he's connected to obrien for instance. Lets retain what little does work and move forward.

8. At this point the entire roster has been evaluated from a talent standpoint...lets assess the salary cap and move accordingly. We have a lot of big name players making big checks who underperform. Goodbye. The days of re-upping contracts stupidly like schaub and cushing are gone. We'll pay you if you earn it, not on a hunch.

9. Talent evaluators are a priority be they pro or college scouts....i want these guys evaluating free agency and the draft like it starts tomorrow.

During the season:

I think you have to fire scouts / GM. The front office has been bad and has done a terrible job with the talent level. Find a new GM before the end of the season.

We need to suck it up and get rid of the pricy contracts. Guys like Cushing and JJo aren't getting it done.

Cut Rahim Moore today. He's directly responsible for many of the big plays this season.

Fire RAC. Promote Vrabel as the interim.

Give playcalling back to OB and make Godsey the QB coach only.

Offseason:

Fire the entire coaching staff.

Draft a QB. Use the 2nd through 4th round picks on OL and TE

I have said McNair doesn't care and I still believe that. In my way of thinking there is no evidence he does care, never really was. The "Texans" as a mascot should have been the first clue he just looks at the team as money on top of more money. McNair goes and we would see an improvement from the top down. Can't be worse.

I am glad to see no more or that, "Well, Bob DID bring pro football back to Houston." Thing is, if Bob sold the team he clearly can't, or won't run the team to win, he should sell and we'll all be happy. He's 80 freaking years old, leave the game to people who can still trust their farts.

Well, Bob, thanks for bringing football back to Houston. Now bring pro football back to Houston again and sell.

As much as I'd like to put this on McNair, I really don't think he's the problem. If he's doing this purely for money, he would want a winner on the field. A winner gives up to 3 more games a season and gets more merchandise sales.

I really think he just knows nothing about football and has put too much faith / trust in a GM who's best buddies with his son. And now that it's a personal relationship he's painted himself into a corner.

I think to right this ship he needs to fire all the yes men around him and bring in someone who isn't going to tell him everything is fine when the entire world around him is on fire.

I can agree with that, but my conclusion is simply different.

Switching to a 4-3. Speed is major trait priority. Only exception is middle of the d. I want a 4-3 styled after the ravens sb year (2 fatties in the middle like saragusa / sam adams. ) And i want a return man who flips the field.

I think Covington can be a good NT. We need to bench Wilfork and give Covington the reps. If it turns out htat he sucks at least we can find out and go get a fatty in the middle for next year.

$3 beers in the stands.

I should be able to place an order from an app on my phone & have it delivered.

There should be an after party in the stadium. Including strippers. Breathalyzer for anyone leaving NRG behind the wheel.

They should televise all the remaining games after ours. Turn NRG into a giant sports bar 'til 2 am... including strippers

We're going to need some midget porn and a donkey show straight out of Tijuana to really get it to the point of the suckage we saw today on TV... just saying :)

this is an all-time low for this franchise, in my opinion. i don't think i've ever felt so depressed about our team in the 13 years i've watched them (and we've seen BAD before).

just a sad state of affairs. we are the lions sprinkled with some browns with a dash of jaguars.

Go to the game but don't go in . Tailgate and have a rib cook off but don't go buy $10 beers . Don't have a liberty white out if you use lots of sauce . Screw gun metal blue day and I don't want ketchup bottle day . The cheerleaders look hot in pink but I won't see them .

As long as the McNair Family are the owners, it does NOT matter.

After today it's been difficult for all of us. But Goddam'it I love that guy!!!!

Thank you Sam K for the chanell.

I only listened to about 1 1/2 quarters of the game today and I'm about 1/2 way through the 2nd quarter of watching it on NFL replay, but I have to say that I don't remember ever seeing a more poorly coached team. This team is just blowing it on the basics of football. That's on the coaching staff.

I don't know where to begin other than cleaning house from Rick Smith down and accepting that the Texans are "rebuilding" again. Hell, at this stage, I'd give Capers another shot. He did a good job with a veteran laden Panthers starter team.

I'm not one to dog the ownership. I believe they want to win and will do what it takes to do so. Having said that, if Mr. McNair looks at the results and decides to keep anyone that is currently running his football team, then I might just change my mind. Too many draft pick busts, too many losses, too many ugly, ugly losses. Too much evidence that no one, from Rick Smith down, has an eye for NFL talent or how to coach them.

I see several people saying to promote Vrabel to DC .... What exactly has he or his unit done to warrant such a promotion ?! The LBers have been just as bad as the rest of the defense. The outside guys aren't getting pressure or holding the edge , the inside guys cant cover and are getting gashed against the run ..... Vrabel is a part of this dumpster fire and should be sent packing with the rest of them.

Some good input, naked cheerleaders and $3 beer seems to be the winners. I caught a part of Warren Moon a Football Life and it reminded me of the all-time bad Houston football fan moment when we lost to the Bills in the play-offs. When McNair finally got rid of Kubiak, I wanted OB and thought he could lead our franchise. I'm not convinced he can't, but I think he needs a lot more help. Let's admit the mistake and just cut Mallet tomorrow, no more excuses. RC, you were great DC at one time, but sir its time to sit on the swing and sip tea. Vrabel, you're the DC now, fire these guys up and adapt the defense to highlight our talent and shut down a drive or two. OB is calling the plays again and getting himself in the mix on offense. I thought he needed to give that responsibility up, but I was wrong. Scouts find 5-6 QBs to audition and let's get one on the active roster and one on the practice squad. Ok, that's enough for this week, oh yeah, make sure the vendors know next home games the beers are $3 for fans and Mr. McNair will offset the rest and could you ask the cheerleaders coach to come see me about a uniform change?

Sorry man, I've been a Houston fan since the 60's can't jump off, but instead ride it out.
