Week 8 Game Day Thread: Sweep the Colts (with poll)

Who Wins in Week 8?

  • Total voters
    8
  • Poll closed .
It's an effort to get the "best" 5 linemen on the field. Is Fisher better than Kenyon Green? So find a way to make that swap. Howard moving to LG makes that happen. It wouldn't make this the best line in the league. Just not the total disaster it has been.
I know but pairing Tunsil with Howard was an absolute disaster no matter who the starting five was. They are two alphas. Don’t laugh at my ignorance. I’m trying… but… maybe we could try Howard at RG or even -center- if need be! Just don’t put him next to Tunsil. It’ll never work.

If Noah Brown has had a 100 yard game with Cj Stroud, Robert Woods has had a 100 yard game with Cj Stroud... if I'm Stefon Diggs I'm seriously questioning what kind of receiver I am.

& the Andre gets his HOF ring today.... nah, I'm going off in the 2nd half.
Without Stefon Diggs we would be lucky to have a 500 record let alone a winning one. He may not statistically be great but we wouldn't be where we are without him.

That did -not- work out last season. I think Howard is fine where he is. We need another signing/trade.
Well yeah... of course a trade/sign for a competent guard is better, but that isn't necessarily within our control right? On the other hand, moving Ty to guard and playing Fisher at tackle is something we can do right now. The question you got to ask yourself about this move is this; is Ty at G and Fisher at T better than Green at G and Ty at T?

I’d rather try Howard at Center or RG before pairing him with Tunsil again. How about we slide Howard in at RG and we move Mason over to LG? Insert whoever you like at RT. Broeker/Fisher?

It’s like some people have never watched sports before and don’t realize the adversity or back and forth nature it can become.
The problem isn't that sports can be back and forth but when it happens due to poor coaching and consistent weaknesses not being addressed that causes people to have legitimate reasons to complain. I didn't get to watch the game today but upon reading the complaints I saw beforehand I was right about how this game would go. Talk of our team being Super Bowl contenders was premature. A lot has to change before we can even think about being a Super Bowl worthy team. Especially our offensive line and Slowik's inconsistent play calling. Slowik has rarely showed a penchant for sticking with what works and making some real tear your hair out of your head play calls.

Defensively we are quite a bit better but still not where we need to be. Still, considering how the offense has performed our defense has covered quite well for them. Had our defense had to play against a much better Qb there is a good chance we lose todays game.

Have you been watching other teams this season? Ineptitude is the name of the game this year.
None the less nobody should let their teams off the hook and they should expect better. Yes I acknowledge that ineptitude has been common but at some point there needs to be a real Super Bowl favorite. Nobody has consistently stood out as a favorite. The Detroit Lions appear to be hitting on all cylinders these last two weeks. Lets see if they can continue that trend. Hopefully our team will get their act together in the coming weeks and live up to the talent we are perceived to have!

I think we come away Thursday with a win and hopefully healthy. Few days off and I think we can hold our own against the Lions. If Nico is back, I see that game as a win. Also, Autry should be gearing up to 100%.

Slowik's lack of using the FB is the biggest difference in this version of the West Coast offence. The FB matters. That helps keep the defense honest. Slowik seems to want to bring his own brand of the offense and "modernize" an offense that still works in the NFL.

Won’t be so lucky against the lions, chiefs and ravens
Even the Lions, Chiefs and Ravens haven't looked like Super Bowl favorites at times. The Chiefs are undefeated and that alone makes them favorites but even they have had close games against teams they should have blown out. The Ravens have looked like contenders at times but not so much at other times. The Lions have looked quite impressive the last two weeks but even they had games that they didn't appear that way. The typically good teams will likely be favorites by default and they should be in the hunt in the playoffs. At some point somebody has to have a string of three or more impressive wins that sets them apart as legit contenders,

I agree with you on Slowik. Dude needs to get it together.

The biggest problem with the team is the O-line. That was addressed. As soon as it was a TD was scored but the solution went out with a concussion.

Then it went back to the same show we were watching.

The defense is trending upwards at a 45 degree angle. They continue to get better. I don’t know where you are getting your information from. I thought they played outstanding. They have been the strength in every game except for against the Vikings. And that was on coaching because they allowed Justin Jefferson to go unguarded a lot.

The Texans have played against Love and forced two or three turnovers. It was the offense that couldn’t execute scores on those plays.

It is always “if” and “buts” with you guys. If the Texans had not made this play the other team would have won. If the other team had a better player or if they would have completed that play the Texans would have lost. Guess what they didn’t because the Texans are that good. End of story.

We gotta fix our o line problem. We need Nico and Harris back asap. Prayer for diggs tonight 🙏
Without a quick fix to the o-line Slowik needs to make plays that involve moving the pocket on purpose and utilize CJ'S ability to pass while on the run. The difference is that it won't be CJ forced to escape pressure but purposely getting outside and finding the open man. Also Joe Mixon is a solid receiver so he should be used as such more often.

I didn't get to see the game today so I ask y'all if Slowik got the TE's more involved. If not I think that is an element that should get more attention. Some of the best teams have TE's as an important part of their teams offensive success. Anyhow, there is still time for this team to establish more of an identity and discover what they are best at.

Out of 26 passes… 15 were to Texans WRs, 4 was to Mixon, and six were ro TE’s. In fact Schultz was our #2 receiver today. I’d say yes.

And last week it was the Ravens. Before that, the Bills. And the Saints were the dominant team at the beginning of the season.

Lesson? It's a long season. Get all the wins you can, while you can.
I stated that no team has consistently stood out. That should happen soon and hopefully our Texans will do that as opposed to seeming LUCKY!

My post didn't say the defense was bad. I simply pointed out that they could be better still yet. A poor offense contributes to defenses wearing down. Our defense has been the strength of our team but a better offense would benefit our defense. That was the point I was making. We need marked improvement to beat the teams with Qb's better than the likes of Anthony Richardson!

The OL is a big issue. You don't just make changes on the OL willy nilly. Looks like they're ready to make a change but the powers & principalities had different ideas.

I suspect we'll have a new starting LG next week. Hopefully, they'll work on their 4 minute drill... that's gotta change.
What’s Deculus or Fant up to these days? Be better than Green

The Houston Texans returned home and to their winning ways, securing the 23-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday

Edit:

Joe Mixon is off to the race for the fourth time in five games and loves nothing more than showing up against the Indianapolis Colts. Mixon headlined the Houst...

I dunno who's the worst starting QB in the NFL but Anthony Richardson has my vote hands down ! That guy is a gift to his opponents when he's out there playing.
So IMO we are one tackle away this morning from being tied for first in the AFC South with the
team which has perhaps the worst QB in the league: bottom line is the Texans are still a ways from being able to play with the big boys in this leauge.

It's amazing how bad the consequences are for having a **** OL

I’d rather face Bryce Young over AR5.

You can look at things this way, or you can look at things like this, When they put Patterson in the game the OL looked much better, so fixing the OL may not be a hard thing to do.

I don’t know why people think that.

We beat the Bills.
Ravens lost to Browns.
Any given Sunday.

We lost to Green Bay barely. Give Stroud one person who can block better than wet toilet paper and the offense is so much better. We saw that in the one series when Kenyon Green sat.

Our defense will get better when our LBs come back.

Our offense will get better when Nico and Patterson get back.

Right now we just have to wait to the two teams ranked ahead of us. KC and Detroit.

It’s better to be fixing our issues while barely winning than fixing our mistakes while barely losing.

They’re currently holding down the #2 seed. So are you saying only the Chiefs are SB worthy in the AFC?
The Chiefs aren't standing out this season so I wouldn't even say they are runaway favorites. Their past gives people a legit reason to consider them a Super Bowl contender. This season is full of parity and I am not ready to gamble on who the Super Bowl favorite should be. However anybody thinking our Texans look like they are championship ready at this point are fooling themselves. There is plenty of time left for our Texans to get hot and take the mantle of Super Bowl favorite. They are not there yet.

You know I think this thing about the Texans having Patterson, who I believe started several games and played well for us last year, sitting there all of this time on our roster while K. Green has been screwing-up is a really bad look for Coach & Casserio.

No idea and I’m not going to go and try and add that up again because I apparently failed arithmetic.
I actually passed with the lowest grade possible every class. My 7th grade math teacher then became my ninth grade teacher then in 10th Grade that's when high school started and he was my teacher again. First day, he called role and then stopped at my name shook his Bulldog head and said Oh no! you're following me everywhere.

True story. Don Perry. I doubt I will ever forget him.

Patterson from my understanding was not football ready until recently.

Watching CJ make Super Man plays once flushed from the pocket is reminiscent of watching John Elway work his magic. Having spent my childhood in Colorado Springs, Colorado I grew up a Broncos fan so that is where I draw my comparisons from. I love watching CJ and his receivers make plays and it seems like Slowik should move CJ more. Perhaps I am wrong but it just seems that way to me.
