Week 13: Texans vs Jaguars

To be fair. Until his last two games against the Raiders and Panthers, Mahomes had 15 TDs and 11 INTs. Now he is at 19 TDs and 11 INTs.

If they won against the Titans and Jets, even with 15 TDs and 9 INTs, we could still say he is not playing as well as last year and still feel better about this team.
Yes I agree with your take on feeling better about our team. The Chiefs would be seen to be anything but Super Bowl challengers if they weren't coming off of back to back championships and had they lost games to average to below average teams. Good on you for googling Chiefs and Mahomes but in my opinion the Chiefs hardly look like three peat champions in the making. Barely beating trashy teams will come back to hurt them, you can bank on it.

Demeco is overly enthusiastic about crappy wins and under emotional about crappy losses. Winning ugly is still winning but we aren't coming off of back to back titles like the Chiefs are.
Well said
It's real easy to blame Tunsil. What's wrong with the ol isn't Tunsils fault. Overall I thought the ol played pretty well today. Tunsil made 2 great blocks on the play before Mixon scored his TD and the play Mixon scored on. Scruggs is having issues.
Tunsil doesn’t get the full blame. He’s been money against some of the higher tier guys like Parsons and Garrett. Yet still a vet who leads the league in penalties. This guy gets false starts in home games. Reminds me of Allen Iverson when it comes to practice. He’s made some silly mistakes in big moments, earlier this season, Tunsil was a drive killer in 2 of those games. I dont want our youthful line to be mentored by someone who doesn’t take practice serious

2 penalties to kill drives in a season isn't bad

I wouldn't say Mason or Howard are youthful.

Patterson is doing a solid job. So that leaves Scruggs and Green as youthful. It looks like youth has very little to do with their suckage and Tunsil even less to do with the suckage.

When I reviewed Lawrence's concussion play, I noticed something very strange..................as Lawrence laid on the ground, only 1 of his teammates stopped to very briefly check on him then continued to walk by him, while Lawrence continued to lay on the ground.

I think after another season he will be top 5 in this league.
Let him mature a bit and I think he'll be good.
Get this online sorted out and we will have a top offense.
So this sophmore slump is on the OL.

I remember a time when we were saying the same things about Carr around these parts.

After 28 games. Did anyone expect Mahomes to be Mahomes? Especially after his 2nd year when his TD dropped from 50 to 26?

Out of curiosity. What are your expectations?
To make the easy throws that are there. (See: Dallas/Detroit games.) I expect Stroud to come through in the clutch, not pull an Orlovsky.

Agreed.

It's one thing to be pressured beyond all reasonable expectations. But it's something else entirely to react poorly to being pressured beyond all reasonable expectations. The great ones handle it. Well, I say that & Brett Favre the all team interception leader pops in my head.

I will say all my criticism of S2roud making poor decisions are based on his performance before Sunday. I believe, or at least want to believe he's starting to trust his OL more & hopefully will get closer to the guy he was last season (sounds like we're talking about Damien Pierce). Still, getting better at not making poor decisions under pressure because your environment changes is not the same thing as getting better. To get to & win a Super Bowl we need a guy that chews nails.

Does Stroud remind you of a guy that chews nails?

I don't think that's unreasonable and it's the same expectation that Stroud, his teammates and coaches expects.

All QBs even the great ones will miss easy throws or not come through in the clutch. The disconnect is that with the offensive struggles, when he misses an easy throw or doesn't come through in the clutch, it's more glaring. As Texans fans, we have "fallen for the banana in the tail pipe" so often, we are jaded. At the first sign of adversity, we lose our perspective and patience. It also doesn't help that at the first sign of a "slump", the day one distractors, trolls and agenda driven posters come out of the woodworks to stir the pot.

I used to laugh when I saw Brady and Manning go into a fetal position when rushers were a step away from them or when they were pressured up the middle. IMHO, Stroud will be fine. He got pressured heavily, he lost trust in his OL and it impacted his pocket presence and timing. His OL and OC also didn't help the situation. I'm hoping with this late bye week, they have the opportunity to self-scout, rest, make the adjustments and get ready for the stretch run.

Well said and outstandingly put. Unfortunately the ones with the agendas will not read this with an open mind. They will refuse to factor in what has transpired throughout this season with that expensive offensive line. Those joker are routinely messing up on their blocking assignments. They’re not getting labeled with that S2 crap.

The only time Peyton or Brady had issues like we're seeing from S2roud was after Manning's neck surgery.

We're not talking about a throw or a game, we're talking about a season.

So, you're telling me that when Manning threw 26 TDs and 28 INTs. He did not have similar issues? Maybe you did. But I didn't watch every Colts game. All I know is if you lead the NFL in INTs like Manning did, he had issues.

I recommend going to Pro Football Reference and look at Manning, Brees and Brady's stats. Early in their careers, when their sack percentage (SK%) is high, their completion percentage decreased and their INTs increased. Also, while you're at it, check how many seasons they were sacked more than 40 times or pressured more than 200 times.

I know we live in a fast-food era, but it seems that after only 28 NFL games, posters are expecting Stroud to be Manning, Brady or Mahomes without getting the guidance from Bill Belichick, Andy Reid or Sean Payton. Whenever we have these discussions about young QBs, I always wonder after 28-32 games, how many fans would have wanted an upgrade from Manning (52 TDs, 43 INTs), Brees (29 TDs, 31 INTs)) or think Brady could only be a game manager.

For the record, I was one of his biggest detractors. He proved me wrong last yr and although I believe his sophomore slump is the biggest reason for the team coming short of expectations, I believe that the poor OL play also has contributed to his slump. I place less blame on Slowik because he's called plays minus Nico/Mixon/Diggs for much of the yr and he's called plays that if made the Texans would have a couple of more wins and if they were sitting on 10 wins there would be a much different conversation around these parts. Slowik has made mistakes like at the end of Packers game, so he's not blameless.

Do you think the OL is performing at a level commensurate with their draft positions, pay rates and urgency that allows a young QB to do his job?
I do not. Something is wrong. I don't know if it's the personnel, the coaches or OC play calling but it is definitely not ideal for a young QB to develop and we may ruin a franchise type QB because of it.
To put it all on CJ's shoulders is shortsighted.

I don't look at draft position or pay scale. I look at this like is a guy doing his job. If if was me, I would spend fa money on Trey Smith and draft Milum if possible. Go with Patterson at C and use Scruggs as the backup at the iol positions. If Caserio is picking at say 1-23 would you be willing to trade up say 8 spots of it cost you a 2nd and a 2026 2nd, knowing that you would move Milum to LT in 2026 and save money by letting Tunsil walk? I think I would. Do this and sign Trey Smith in fa, problem solved. Problem right now is Scruggs isn't even avg and Mason can't play at his usual high level for a full game.

Obviously someone isn't doing their job, and I can't put my finger on all the factors involved and that is where NC comes in.
I have my eye on Milum too. It will be interesting to see where he gets drafted.

He probably will be gone by the time the Texans pick.

Trey Smith at RG and Milum LG? Going to cost mucho cap to pull Smith away.

Somehow or other the Chiefs managed to have Thuney/Orlando Brown on the roster. The cap should be going up 20 mil and if it was me I would cut Howard to make the cap space available. Fisher would become the RT and Milum would become the swing OT. Scruggs would be the main backup IOL. They're not going to do what I would do, so there are no worries.
