UT puts it on Nebraka

Defense played excellent against the option. Lots of dropped passes by Nebraska WRs.

But, I'll take a win in Lincoln any day.

Oh yeah, hook 'em orange pole lot.
:kingkong:

Offensively Nebraska struggled, part of it was shooting themselves in the foot with 8 dropped passes.

Then again the UT. Defense shut down the Nebraska run game all day so they had to throw more than they would've liked.

Thanks. I was going to watch the game but decided to watch the MLB playofffs instead.

Horrible offensive production putting a VERY good Nebraska defense in holes too many times.

Texas was the first true test of how good this Nebraska offense is and it appears they failed.

I didn't see the whole game but I know there will be TONS of people here in Nebraska who will be drinking HEAVILY tonight.

There goes there dreams of a National Title.

Their Wr's, especially Paul, dropped way too many passes early. And Martinez was not able to adjust to the 'horns speed. Could have been a lot different.

Was the game as close as the score seems?

No. UT was up by 3 scores when they started working the clock instead of the scoreboard. Then they knelt down inside the Nebraska 10 to end the game and they could have scored again if they had needed to.

It wasn't really close, but it wasn't a blowout either.

Should have been a lot different. Huskers had this game circled on their calendars as a revenge game for last years Big XII Championship game. UT offense looks anemic and not very threatening, they were lucky the Nebraska WRs dropped so many balls today. This, to me, was more of a case of Nebraska beating themselves then UT beating Nebraska. Rather Texanish football by the Huskers, though that last punt return did make it interesting.

Nebraska is the #1 pass defense, #4 scoring defense and #12 total defense in the nation. Your offense is supposed to look anemic against a great team like that.

I watched this game, but man Nebraska's WRs dropped 5 sure TDs throughout the game. So many were great passes too, just terrible WR hands could not get control of the ball. This game should have been much closer, but the longhorns escaped with a win.

5 td drops? yah ok bud.

Niles Paul had a couple drops. One would have put them around the Texas 5 yard line.

Burkhead dropped 1 where he was alone on the sideline and would have likely scored.

Don't know the receivers name, but at the very end on 4th down, he let the defenders hand being in there keep him from catching it. I'm not saying it was great coverage, but the defenders hand was in there... still would like it to be caught, but it wasn't a gimme.

That said, Texas had a couple drops in the end zone too. Mistakes weren't as one sided as you make it seem.

The way I see it is simple. Nebraska is a running team. Texas holding Martinez to ~25 yards rushing on 15+ attempts is just GOOD defense. Texas forced Nebraska into 3rd and long, and forced them to pass. They are not a good passing team. They are who they are, a running team with an above average defense and 2 really good cb's.

You can't credit Nebraska's defense for holding Texas to 20 and keeping Texas to ~70 yards passing, if you don't give Texas credit for holding Nebraska to 200+ yards under their season average.

---

Lastly, that pooch punt play call was deplorable. The second the Texas coaches saw that Nebraska put someone back there, it should have either been kicked out of bounds, or they should have called a timeout and changed the play call.

Credit to Nebraska for knowing the Texas tendencies and knowing it could be coming. Clearly the odds were in their favor with the personnel group on the field in that situation, but it was still a great play by Hagg and poor tackling by Texas.

---

Overall I'm just really happy with the win. I thought the Texas oline had their best game in a couple seasons. I'm shocked it took 5 games for the Texas coaches to see that you have to run the QB a bit for the spread rushing attack to work; hopefully its a lesson that has sunk in and won't need to be re-learned next week. Lastly, I thought this was an absolute statement game for Will Muschamp. That defense had a gameplan that turned a heisman hopeful into a benched QB by the third quarter. Man it was fun to watch.

I 100% agree with you on that. UT's offense has not been very good all season long, there seems to be no rhythm/consistency/flow to it. I contribute a lot of that to young players and that there are no stand out leaders on the offense, yet. Next season they should have established their identity as an offense as the players that they have mature, though the RB position is a bit of a concern. Also, play-calling is suspect at times.

The Texas offense will most likely stay inconsistent unless that new RB they get next year turns into a monster. Mack Brown and GD are just terrible coaches for an offense, and in the last 6 to 7 years or so, Colt and VY made this offense and camoflouged how poorly coached the offense is. A running QB was perfect of their offense, because when plays would break down, they could always salvage a drive by running for a first down and keeping a drive alive. Gilbert is a stud and I love this kid's talent, but he's not a running QB that will be able to do that, and Mack and GD simply won't let him rip it up as a passer. They've only let him use half the field for most of the season. This kid has one of the best arms in the country and they barely let him throw down the field. That is what a QB like Gilbert is made for. He's a passer. You have to let him do this thing, but Mack and GD are so conservative. With the talent that Texas has on offense they should be killing most of their opponents and even when you go back to last season the Texas offense wasn't all that good. It was their defense that had to carry them most of the year.

Great win for them yesterday though. They needed a big win like that really badly. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the game, because I was looking at houses all day. 3 straight losses would have been really bad.

yep and I heard the announcers saying that Mack told Gilbert to run more and use his legs

I am STUNNED a certain poster isn't telling us how pitiful the UT Defense is or relishing that they lost another game...oh,. wait. The Defense played very well and UT won.

Ohhh....

Yeah, from what they were saying is that they were going to put him in situations where he could run effectively.

I guess that's a wrinkle they want to add, but really Gilbert is likely most comfortable in the pocket. UT offense did a better today considering they were facing possibly the best defense in the nation.

Trolls only come out when they want to.
