There is a lot of butthurt going on here, and it's for totally the wrong reasons

Just because Charles James was the darling personality hit of Hard Knocks, that doesn't instantly make him better than the other corners on the team. He would never have been on game day active list. If he were really that good, he would still be with the Giants.

Kendall Lamm. I mean whooppie. Like you can't find that guy on the street if major need arises. Or hey there is this cool thing called a practice squad. I wonder if OB has heard of it. Nah, let's keep someone who won't contribute for 16 games and get rid of the ST star that lights up the crowd and the team. Makes sense to me.

What did Carlos Thomspon do that was so much better than #91,#48, or name your damn number. Must have been in practice because I didn't see anything that just stood out.

Ballentine - I can kind of see the makings of a poor man's Kam Chancellor but he was injured last year, and wasn't fully healthy this year. I would have opted for PS for now and stuck with James - someone that I am sure can contribute at a need area - ST gunner and all around asset. And I'm not convinced James can't return kicks, but he never got a chance. I saw real vision on those pitches. Eh, what do I know.

Sometimes I think people forget that the PS is not like a minor league team. You can't just assign a player to your PS. Every PS squad player is exposed at all times to getting picked up by another team. Sometimes, the reason you can't figure out why they kept one player over another is the probability they or would not would get picked up by another team.

Yes they have to pass thru waivers. After that they are free to sign to any team's active roster or PS, Once on a practice squad any team may make an offer to the player (upcoming opponents minimum 6 days ahead of the game) to be on, or paid as if on, their active roster for three weeks. The players don't have to accept such offers.

Is the six day rule new? I remembered upcoming opponents repeatedly raiding our PS over the last couple of seasons. They usually only kept them for a couple of weeks, maybe it was three.

While players don't have to accept those offers, it is financially beneficial to them to get league minimum rather than PS money. Almost all players accept.

Don't know when the 6 day rule was put in place (it's 10 if the player is on a team coming off a buy).

Not sure how you know what almost all PS players do with offers since the only ones which are ever reported are the acceptances.

Whether taking the offer makes sense depends on the timing and specific situations with both teams. 3 weeks at league min. is $86k. A year on a PS is $112k. There's no guarantee of getting back on any PS and maybe not one which is as good a situation e.g. Kubiak taking an interest in Foster where the competition was thin and the system perfect (and he ultimately was on the active for 6 weeks).

SOTT: The Texans Next Step, The Waiver Wire

The Houston Texans take their next step on building their roster, the waiver wire.

Waiver wire claims are the next step for the NFL and the Houston Texans. With an interesting roster composition, there is some room to make moves if the right situation presents itself.

Currently sitting 16th in the waiver order (draft order first three weeks of the season, then based on season record), the Texans will have to put their claims in on players and hope for the best.

Currently the team has a bottom end of the roster that could be flipped by day's end with rookies Carlos Thompson and Kendall Lamm. There were also reports of the Texans checking on Cleveland Browns running back Terrance West which could leave Chris Polk looking for a new team. The injury to Tom Savage and his placement on injured reserve opened the door for an extra roster spot, which allowed the team to keep Keshawn Martin.

What are the Texans Current Needs?
  • The Texans should be looking for outside linebacker, running back, defensive line, and quarterback depth on the waiver wire and among current free agents.
  • The defensive line only has five on the depth chart and could be looking for another big body to deepen the nose tackle position.
  • The team kicking the tires on West shows they are trying to upgrade the group and it looks like they are content on keeping a depth chart of four for the season.
  • A fourth outside linebacker would be handy, with a primary focus on special teams contributions.
  • The third quarterback is important for running the practice squad and getting work done efficiently during practice. They need another arm to continue their pace on the field, so look for any quarterback that might have experience in the system before.
  • Martin looks safe for the time being but don't be surprised if there are inner workings trying to move him to a wide receiver needy team if that team can't find its guy via the waiver wire.
The initial 53-man roster was set to meet the deadline but it still requires some movement to get it completely solidified before week one arrives.

Fantastic point! I'll own up to it; outside of Khari Lee, who I would have scratched my head about his trade, Hard Knocks or not, I found myself rooting for players because of the show. That's human nature. That's ENTERTAINMENT!

At the end of the day, all sports is entertainment, and Hard Knocks turned the volume to 11.

Charles James II pulled my heartstrings. Fact. I think if not for the show I might have been more critical of his play in the field. Although, what I saw on the field was a bulldog, who is still learning his value, much in the same way former "short" DBs like Steve Jackson (Oilers), Mark McMillan (Eagles), and Brandon Boykin did.
 
My issue with CJII being cut (or anyone, for that matter) is the guy went above and beyond. If a guy not only does everything you ask of him but even more, you have to ask yourself what else he could have done to make the team. If the answer is nothing, then why the fk did you lead him on?

Leaders
At the time of first publish, the Eagles had the most 2015 cap $ allocated to offense, while the Browns led the way in terms of defensive spending. Drew Brees ungodly cap figure has the Saints leading the way in QB dollars, while Adrian Peterson has the same effect for the Vikings in terms of RBs. The Detroit Lions have the most WR cap $ allocated by more than $3M, while Julius Thomas' big pay day has the Jaguars leading the way in terms of TE spending. The most expensive OL in the league belongs to the New York Jets, by more than $4M. While the Rams are spending nearly $47M on their defensive line this year. The Colts have shored up their defense, packing in an expensive linebacking core this year, while Revis-Island makes the Jets the far and away top spendings in the secondary.

I could have missed all of hard knocks and still noticed Charles James on STs, the 4 pitches in game 3, and him being glued to receivers hips in game 4. He also covered fairly well game 1, but I had to rewatch it and look for him.

Charles James got alot of praise from the reporters during the open practices in the beginning of training camp, which is what originally made me get interested in him. So it wasn't just his Hard Knocks exposure.

He did his best, it wasn't enough to make it as a positional player.

CJII has been on our practice squad since 10/1/2014, so it's not new to him.

As for being "led on", I don't think he felt that way...

Ranking NFL teams by age

As of roughly 8:30 p.m. on cut down day, when we finished collecting data from all 32 NFL team website rosters, the Rams had the youngest team in the NFL, as they did the last three years. The Colts are the oldest. By the time you read this, this data will already out of date as teams continue to make tweaks to their rosters, although even with continued roster movement, the average ages of each team shouldn’t change much.

Here are the results, with a recent historic look at the average ages of each team on 53-man cut down day:

Note: Every year I do this study, I seem to get the same basic comment, which I'll address ahead of time.

"The difference between the Rams and Colts is only 2.23 years. Big whoop."
While 2.23 years may not be a big difference between two individual players, keep in mind that these are the average ages of 53 players per team.

2.23 years on average * 53 players = A difference of about 118 total years between the Rams and Colts.

In other words, if you took the 23 oldest Colts and shaved 5 years off each of their ages, their roster still wouldn't be as young as the Rams.​

What is this? A beauty contest now? There were a whole lot of players in that 90-man squad that went "above and beyond, and did everything that you asked of him"

What else could he have done to make the team? Simple. He could have been better than the other players at that position. Just like Travis Labhart could have been better than the other WRs. They weren't.

Nobody "led anyone on".
 
I understand the "went above and beyond," and the "why lead him on" comments, but there are 31 other teams. Being pushed and led on made him become more versatile and a better player. Someone will take notice and give him a shot.
 
I didn't think having Hard Knocks here was a good idea, and now I still didn't think it was.

I hope this was a one-off.
 
wait so we have no back up NT and I know Wilfork cant play all 3 downs much less 4 so when hes not on the field ..??? we switch to a 4-3 ..???? or does like Crick or pagan play NT ..????

just looking at the 53 its what I expected but look like we went older and cut all our young guys IMO in terms of team age

He moves to NT on passing downs. Norg said Wilfork can't play NT all 3 downs.

Besides bringing in Covington to play NT on passing downs, there are Nickel and Dime Sets that don't use a NT so it's not that big of an issue.

I also think Crick and sometimes Watt kicked inside often last season anyway.
 
Team will have 5 days to reach settlements with Trail & Washington, reportedly the team was already trying to get this done.

Pretty much a given that all of us root for Texans; that does not mean that our opinions about players, management, ownership, medical staff, etc should not be posted. Some like to complain, some (perhaps you) just want to see a win regardless of how we get it or how the team is orchestrated. For some, football is more than just a game to click on while drinking suds and eating..whatever.

This MB is for folks to post what they are thinking with some limitation for how they say what they are thinking; although those limitations have been mostly ignored since moving to the new system. If you want to be just a cheer leader, I think those spots have been filled already but next season will be posted in time for try outs.

Well as for the last three CBs a recently as last season:
Bouye had 59 Ts, 1 FF, and three INTs that averaged 40 yards returned each.
Morris in back up play in only 11 games had 31 tackles and 1 INT
Rolle in even less snaps in 10 games had 19 tackles and 3 INTs

FYI there has been no regular games between then and now. Evidently, that "what have you don't lately" counts more than TC.

what kind of problem? All I am aware of is he is "up and down inconsistent" player. I think most of that could be the scatter shot Cleveland coaching has used all RBs, none of which has done anything. Their Oline was also reshuffled when one of their starters went out. Coach benched him and another player but stated West had not broken any team rules but was immature. Was it Manziel immaturity or they expect more from him as a third round pick immaturity?

I would go to Baltimore if I had a choice like Charles James. The Ravens are the best run team in the NFL and have repeatedly taken guys we have thrown away and made hay with them: Vonta Leach, Bernard Pollard, Jacoby Jones and so on. Charles James will be another notch in Ozzie's belt.

Instead of acknowledging this, we have the worst moderator of any board I have ever visited make smart ass comments. Texian, steelb and other critics of this joke of a franchise have been proven right time after time. You have anything to say to that infantrycak?
