I spoke to a person I know who has followed him since his days at Klein HS. Interestingly enough, he has confirmed that Tharp is actually just under 6'9" tall (after having grown two inches during his time as a Red Raider). The 250 lbs in this article is also not correct. He put on serious weight to tip the scales at 270 pounds, 45 pounds heavier than he weighed as a recruit. Also interesting is that prior to taking up with Texas Tech, he was given offers from the Arizona Wildcats and the Michigan State Spartans!
He has been known more for his run blocking prowess................something that the Texans have lacked for decades.
Injury history (with loss of 9 games) have been a concern. His specific injuries have essentially been kept under wrap. However, I have managed to find out that while at Texas Tech before the 2023 season, he had already suffered 3 significant concussions.
I found an article that very well reviews Tharp and includes some very interesting video clips.
2025 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT: TEXAS TECH TE MASON THARP
I like this young man. I hope with time and a lot of effort, he can develop into a real Texans weapon while avoiding injury.
