To Keep Carr or Not To Keep Carr?.. that is the question...

Transition tag him. See what other teams offer for him. I doubt they will offer more than it would cost us to kick in his options. With the 8 mill bonus and all.

And if another team offers more than we want to pay, we get compensation for him.

Best idea to date.

That's the way it has to be done.

I don't believe that Carr is the problem. No quarterback can succeed either on his back or running for his life. The coaching staff needs to be replaced, and possibly the GM. An offensive line that can protect the quarterback should be the priority next season. Any quarterback playing behind our line is not going to succeed. Carr is a classic drop back 5 to 7 step quarterback. The fact that he can run is an added feature. Protect him, and he will hit his receivers.

Keep David Carr! He is the man for our team and I do not want to see him go somewhere else and become an All-Pro QB there.

Definately transition tag him... I think that as compensation we would get a 1st round pick, seeing as that is where we drafted him?

A transition player designation gives the club a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires. If the club matches, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation. That means we would have to offer Carr AT LEAST the average of the top 10 salaries of this season's QB OR 120 percent of what Carr's salary in 2005. Do you guys really think any team would offer Carr this much money? If Carr was offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries of last season at QB, or 120 percent of Carr’s previous year’s salary, he becomes a “non-exclusive” franchise player and can negotiate with other clubs. The Texans can match a new team's offer, or receive two first-round draft choices if it decides not to match.

I thought the same thing and deffended Carr, but I was WRONG! The last couple of games Carr has had time to thorw the ball downfield. He locks in on his primary reciever and never looks off at number two. At least 4 times during the KC game he threw the ball on the ground in front of his recievers.
Carr advertises bigtime exactly where he is going to thow the ball!

I put the fault of that on coaching.

You are right about more time to throw the last couple of games. However, if you are used to getting slapped upside the head every three seconds, you might have a hard time being relaxed enough to scan the field. Unfortunately, it's going to take more than a couple of games for him to not flinch around two and half seconds. He needs enough success at going towards five seconds before getting hammered for awhile... then he wll forget about it. But, he's been flattened constantly since he's been here. But, he's courageous and tough.

Who do you think is going to give a 1st round pick for him? Just curious. Shop him but keep under consideration that no QB is going to do any better under the circumstances.

Keep Carr. I just think w/ new coaches, new philosophy, and the overdue upgrades on the O-line we'll see David Carr play much better than he has this season and even last season.

In what league does a QB get 5 seconds behind the Oline?

:texflag: Funny thing about Carr is the longer he plays the better he was . He used to do things I don't remember seeing .
The thing with this whole situation is nobody is sure what happens behind the scenes . ( CARR LOVERS THESE ARE STRICTLY WHAT IFS DON"T GET RUFFLED ) Does Carr have the respect of his teammates ? Is Carr capable of going through his progressions ? Why has Carr regressed in his mechanics ? Does all of this mean he's hard to coach ? These are alot of Questions for a 4th year QB that due a bonus .

You have to keep Carr! We have invested way too much in him to let him go elsewhere and do what he can't do here: PRODUCE! I think he'd fit well with the Dolphins, Ravens or who knows maybe even the Jets seeing as no one knows what's going to happen up there next season.

Give him a slightly better line to protect him and I'm more than sure we will see what he is actually capable of when he isn't on his back or running for his life play after play as mentioned above...:twocents:

:texflag: I'm not sure about the investment angle . What is it that Carr has that you can't do without .
As bad as the OL is theres more to the story . As bad as the coaching is theres gotta be something else . The OL is not the worst group ever assembled talent wise . So is it there as dumb as a bucket of rocks or is it the coaching is the worst ever ( Palmer and Pendry have coached on playoff teams ) . Somewhere along the line they've had to dumb down the scheme to the point of being comical . The Texans know the problem and maybe thats why they have'nt drafted an OL .
If Carr leaves they are still in a QB quandry looking for answers ... just like today but for far less money .

Who else would we get? If we draft a qb in the first round then we will have the same problem with him that we do with Carr. Tony Banks and Ragone will never make it either and to my knowledge there aren't going to be any big time qb's available through fa. I think he can be solid with a good line and a better play caller. Pendry runs too conservative of an offense to put up any kind of passing numbers. When was the last time we even threw a deep pass?

:texflag: The Redskins won THREE Super Bowls with three different QBs . The 72 Dolphins did'nt lose a game with Griese out most of the year .
Carr was the first player taken in the draft in 2002 ... and he's being paid accordingly . No matter who you want to blame he is not worth that kinda money .

This is like the Astros and Bagwell but Bagwell's money is guaranteed . The same is not the case with Carr you have options ... besides whats the worst that can happen we're 1-9 with a terrible offense .

Does anyone know the exacts of a transition tag? Is there a link we can research it on?

Right now, I would say the closest is Indianapolis Colts. Manning doens't need 5 seconds, but he could get it more times than not. I would settle for their offensive line.

Ridiculous. QBs are taught to look off from HS on, if not before. He simply hasn't learned it. Could he have unknown or unrecognized vision problems?

You and others have gotta stop making excuses for Carr. He's had four years to show his stuff. Even a punching bag would have done better back there than Carr has.

If the question is whether the Texan and Capers have ruined him, I say Who cares? The point is that he's a refurbishing project AT THE VERY BEST. He may come around and excel somewhere, but please let it be somewhere else.

:texflag: I think thats one of my biggest problems with Carr ... he's made of teflon (except when it comes to sacks ) nothing sticks to him . Its either the OL , bad coaching , bad WRs , no TE , no running game , Carr has not helped the situation .

May be Carr Should Be known as the Teflon Don:ok:

David Carr had 3531 yards and 16 TDs in his third year with this same coaching staff that everyone is proclaiming to be so lousy. Up until this year when the team completely fell apart and we adopted a pansy offensive system he had improved every year and the team had improved every year until we traded off our few good veteran leaders, made more poor offseason free agent and draft decisions and still have yet to add any more offensive talent around him since drafting Andre Johnson and Domanick Davis three years ago, not to mention the defense has had trouble stopping teams many times this year and added more pressure on the offense to have to score every possession. What more do you need to see from him?

As Carr's performances got worse last year, so did the rest of the team....all across the board - Carr included. After Carr finished playing the worst defenses in the NFL he fell apart also. 16 TD's isn't an impressive total (average to below average QB's can give you this for a fraction of the cap cost).

ok, say we actually seek another QB in the off season, who is it? I don't think we draft a QB, so seeking one through free agency is how it would be done...who are the targets?

we need something in return if we do trade him. An Offensive Lineman that can actually block at least. Pick up a QB in FA and draft Reggie Bush!!!!
