2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
My first and very early thought for the off-season. Is it too early? Maybe not since most folks feel like this season is already in the books and need only to play out so discussions can turn to this very topic. Some have also mentioned their dissatisfaction with other topics turning towards this anyways.
I'm beginning to feel like the Texans are going to have a very early RD3 (Inside Top 5), the Seahawks pick (late / 24+) and COMP Pick.
As for FA OT's....this is supposed to be a weak to awful class that will probably come at a steep price regardless, but this is a position of utmost need. One player I would roll the dice on:
NE- RT / Cameron Erving: Serious blunder!!! Not sure how I got this so mixed up...just trying to do too much at the same time. Maybe the Texans can take a flyer on:
DET- LT / Greg Robinson: He's costing the Lions a little over 5M this season and they're expecting Taylor Decker (Starting LT) back next season, which means the Lions may not pursue re-signing Robinson. As for the Texans, Robinson could possibly go to either side of the OL depending on who they land in the draft. He'd be an upgrade over any of the teams current OT's.
Round 3
As for the draft, I typically want trench type players first and foremost but since QB could be a screaming need again next year since Savage and crew will probably be off to new teams and as many posters have already stated, it may be in the teams best interest to go ahead and get another QB with a similar skill set as Watson's. A player of interest for me could be Baker Mayfield (QB- Oklahoma / 6-2 @ 215 lbs) who is currently being projected as a RD3 type of QB by Walters Football. Would be extremely interesting to see if actually stays in this projected slot through the Combine and individual workouts. If Mayfield were to slip past RD2, I would be cool with the Texans using their RD3/1 Pick to take him.
With the Seattle pick...a couple of OT's that could be there and may be worth following to see how their seasons finish and Combine Workouts go:
LT- Bentley Spain / NC / 6-6 @ 300 lbs or RT- Casey Tucker / Stanford / 6-6 @ 300 lbs. Both of these tackles are regarded as better run blockers at the moment but reasonably athletic at the same time. Neither should be the project Davenport has been to date since their level of competition is at the top of CFB level. Maybe both but if they were both still on the board or maybe go FS, SS or TE with the COMP Pick. Looking at these options next.
