Titans/ Norm Chow do not want Vince Young!

The key part is the following (regarding QBs Billy Hart vs Matt Leinart at USC):

Promise unfulfilled
However, Hart's skill set — and his desire to play baseball and football — didn't necessarily equate with the system installed by Norm Chow, who came to USC in 2001 as Carroll's offensive coordinator.

"Norm was fixated on Matt from the beginning," said Wilson Hart. "Billy was probably more athletic, but Matt had a gift for executing the game plan in the Norm Chow offense. Norm didn't make a mistake (by backing Leinart), but we'll never know what would have happened if USC had poured the resources into Billy that they did into Matt."

Wilson Hart said one play at a practice early in Hart's career set the tone for his son's chances of playing football.

"Billy drops back and nobody is open, so he bobs and jumps and weaves and jukes and finally buys a little time," Wilson Hart said. "He sees the fullback over the middle and powers the ball in sidearm and hits the guy. Then he comes off the field, thinking he's done a fine thing, and Norm says, 'Billy, that was a great play. Next time, throw the damned ball away.'

"That sums it all up. The point Norm was making is that he didn't want (a scrambling quarterback). When it's not there, dump it and don't risk losing 10 yards."

So at #3, the Titans will not take VY, no matter what all of you armchair gurus think! VY does not fit the Norm Chow QB....he will go to the Raiders where he will be able to throw jump balls to Randy Moss!

We won't know which QB Titans will pick till draft day. Adams and Reece want VY...coaches want Leinart....we shall see.

I take it that Adams and Reese want to win a SB. They hired Fisher & Chow to do that (especially Chow).....so there might be an argument for which QB is drafted in order to help the Titans win a SB. Bud Adams knows Oil Exploration and NFL Team relocation......Fisher & Chow know football.

That is a pretty big leap.

The sky is blue. My car is blue. Therefore, my car must be the sky.

Just because you say, don't make it true.

Bud Adams knows cars, right. I think he still owns River Oaks Chrysler. You know what they say about (used) car salesman.:)

If Floyd Reese really cared what Norm Chow wants, then perhaps this article would have some sort of relevance.

I'd bet Chow isn't even there in two years....this won't be his decision.

Agreed.

I was listening to part of the mock draft on Sporting News Radio and the TN newspaper guy was saying that Chow like Leinart but Reese likes VY, so Reese will win that battle.

The argument goes that if that organization wasn't afraid of Steve McNair's lack of polish and competition, they aren't gonna be afraid of taking Vince Young.

That mock was weird. Bush, D'Brickshaw, Young, Leinart, Mario....

Yeah, but I have to say that quote about Chow jumped off the page for me too. Hope it is true. It will be easier for Houston fans to get over no VY in town if he doesn't go to the Titanhicks.

Its funny i keep hearing norn chow wants leinart last i checked norm chown was and offensive cord not a coach not a General Manager Not Even A Minority owner on the titans.who really cares what Chow wants im sure bud adams doesnt give a damn.

Hmmmmmm....

The Titans are making life hard on Stevie lately.

Looks like Stevie is headed outta' Hickessee.

Chow is nowhere near the top of the decision making ladder on this issue. And Vinny is right, Chow is a goner in a few years.

My money is on this: Bush to Texans, Ferguson to Saints, and Young to Titans.

Bud and Reese will choose VY for all the right reasons: To spite Houston and solidify the leftover Oiler/Titans fans in Houston who need a reason to stay a fan once Stevie is hobbling out of guitar town. TELL ME DIFFERENT. I dare you. :)

If TEN drafts VY, it will do nothing but help the Texans..... VY will be a bust, and the Titans will have given up the chance to improve its team.

Win-Win for me. I assume Billy Volek is the heir apparent, but you never know. The reason for saying Chow wants Leinart is because he is the QB guru, OC, and former ML coach......he an Fisher are pals, and Fisher is a USC alum. Emotion plays into these picks.....Parcells will always pass on more talented players if that player is not a "Bill Parcells" guy. That is the first thing he does when scouting players.....does player X give 110%? does player X take plays off? does player X whine to coaches? etc.

Sounds good. Once we trade with the Jets, Bush will be gone to N.Y. thank godness, Mario Williams will be in N.O., Matt Lienart will go to Tenn., and then Vince Young becomes a Texan. 90% of you Bush-Bandwagon guys will leave this message board, and or turn in you SEASON TICKETS, so thats 15 less season ticket holders so not a big deal.

Great enthusiasm, but if we drop down to #4, it will probably mean we go defense with AJ Hawk, or OL with D'Brickashaw. I'm hoping we go with Hawk, since LB is leader of the defense, and a dominating LB makes the defense that much better.

Will not happen, if they drop to #4 it will be Vince, hands down. No need to take a OL, we will have plenty picks to grab them in the first day.

No, passing on Vince at #4 is a reach. He is arguably the best athlete n this yearsdraft, plus Kubiak has already said he likes Young the best overall but Charley does not want him at the #1 pick. At number 4 all of Charleys favorite guys are gone, so Vince would be the guy.

young isn't even the best athlete in this draft at his position. there are several better athletes. bush, davis, m. williams...young will go somewhere between 9-13, so it's a reach.

Bush will be gone, Williams will be gone, we just picked up a TE, Young would be the guy at #4. And he is arguably a much better athlete than Bush and Williams.

This isn't necessarily true. We have known for weeks that Chow wants Leinart. The problem is that Reese and Adams are rumored to want VY more. A coordinator is not going to win a power struggle.

Yes, and Barrick is more of a passer than VY. As some have dissrespectfully called BN, he is the cheaper version of VY. A team will steal him on Day2. I forcast him going in round 4.

Bud wants Vince and Vince it will be at 3. His reasoning? To stick it in Elyse and Bob's backside. There's nothing like bragging rights on River Oaks Blvd - at least until they start playing. Note for the uninitiated: (quasi humor)

The complicating factor for that franchise is that Fish and his staff may not survive another 5-11-ish season, and it will take more than one season to get VY up and running at full speed. He could get caught up in turmultous times up there and that wouldn't bother me a bit.

If you can predict the future with such certainty, why are you spending any time at all frequenting a MB? Why aren't you relaxing somewhere on your private island bought with the gains of your sporting bets and stock picks.

Oh wait, let me guess. That is what you are doing right now.

It just would be easier for the Texans if VY went some place far outta division. Easier with our fan base. I don't particularly want to hear loud cheers for the other team's QB in my stadium.

Sir you need to put the bottle down you are a disgrace to the Texans after saying that. There is no way at all McNeil is even close to VY at talent at all.:challenge
faster, stronger, better arm...

barrick nealy's a better athlete, too.

Let me guess......you never saw BN play this year?

Vince Young vs. A&M:

13-24 162 1TD 1int (116.28 QB rating)
11-19 1.7 (12 yrd longest run)

Barrick Nealy vs. A&M:
26-34 378 3TDs 1int (193.10 QB rating)
5-36 7.2 (38 yrd long) 1TD

Hmmmm, looks like BN with less talented players did a lot better than VY with the top talented, National-Champion players.
**********************

Just one other reason to never use the "lesser competition" for Div 1-AA prospects.

There were no other real threats on the field other than Nealy as well. Here's a video showing him against A&M.

www.bobcatfans.com/video/txst_am_sm.wmv

Do yourself a favor and don't watch Nealy's run at the end of it, you might change your mind on vy being the best athlete. If you watch that video you notice Barrick had a worse offensive line than the Texans.

www.bobcatfans.com/video/barrick.wmv

There is an 81 yard run. If it wasn't for us grooming a sophmore qb in the 2nd quarter of almost every game until the playoffs, he would have 3000 passing yards and 1000 rushing as well.

Don't want to peeve anyone here but McNeal is also a better quitter and a person who led his team to nothing.:)

I'm 50% for Bush and 50% for trading out to get more picks AND to get Ferguson or BPA as long as BPA is not Vince Young.

I do not hate UT. I do not hate Vince Young. I am about the most objective bystander on this topic, and I could care less about USC or UT etc. I could hate USC for Leinart alone, but I don't get into the emotional aspect of hating a team for any number of reasons. I take that back. I hate the Titans because they are owned by the worst Boss Hogg impersonator to ever have lived. There's not enough words to describe my anger toward him. So, I guess I lied about not getting wrapped up in emotions.

All of this to say that the Bush supporters are Bush supporters because they think he's the best player available. I agree with that assessment: Bush is the most talented guy in this draft, and he has the best chance to succeed if we had to take only one guy who we'd think would succeed.

Bush supporters won't be the ones crying and leaving the board if we draft anybody but Bush. That award goes to all UT homers and "hometown hero" whiners who think that sentimental adoration for Vince Young will translate into valid reasons for us to draft Vince Young. It doesn't translate, in my opinion. And you haven't seen childish fits of rage until you see guys like Hookem Horns (a guy I like and respect, by the way) when Young doesn't stand up there with a Texans jersey. Young fans will cry and pout and act out like none other if their guy isn't taken by the Texans. Period.

Factoid # 321: The crybabies will be Young supporters who think "their guy" should be drafted because of who he is and where he's from.

Bush is the most talented prospect. The most celebrated prospect. And to me, Young enters into the equation behind Bush and Ferguson as the most likely to succeed. No doubt about it, if we don't select Bush it's not because we'll be taking Young...it'll be because we traded out for more picks due to salary problems, or we want a solid left tackle AND more picks to use.

I read that article and that part of it jumped right out at me. I told myself that Chow will not want VY running his offense. But he will not make the decision. I really see Bud Adams stepping in and picking a QB at #3, and the devil in him will want VY in a Titan uniform.
