Thursday Night Football 2014

Say what you want about Fitzpatrick, but it can always get worse. Just look at Andy Dalton. Cincy gave him a big extension this offseason and look what they get.

10/33 for 86 yards and 3 INT's. That's what he did tonight against the Browns.

Fitzpatrick looks like a bargain in comparison.

Agreed, but to be as fair as possible, the first one was on Gresham and Cincy should be ashamed of their overall effort tonight.

Brian Hoyer now 9-3 as starting QB for the #Browns.

The last time the Browns made it to 6 wins, Romeo Crennel was the coach, Derek Anderson was the quarterback, and George W. was president.

That doesn't really mean much anymore. Not in today's NFL. Newton has averaged 60% completions, 3800 yards, and 21 TD's per year during his career.

Our pass offense has been awful this year and, before being benched, Fitzpatrick was on pace to throw for 3400 yards and 20 TD's while completing 62% of his passes.

That career is only 3.5 years in with his 2nd OC, he's still learning. If the Panthers ever got a decent WR2 they'd be more dangerous. Fitzpatrick? Who is that?

Dalton isn't that talented to begin with. His job is to hand off, get the ball to Green, and minimize turnovers. He can only do one of those three right now and if that keeps up there's no reason to continue letting him hold this team back from what it could be.

My boys choked yet again last night. Thing is, i'm not mad about it.
If a team can't find a way to win given those circumstances, something is VERY wrong with the team.

First place was on the line.
Home winning streak was on the line.
Primetime game monkey is still firmly on their backs.
Still's daughter was there last night and they laid an egg.

The lack of effort was ridiculous and you can see it when it's happening if you watch that team. The players reactions tell you all you need to know. I saw it last night when the score hit 14-3 in the first half. I turned to my wife and said, this game is over and I would be surprised if they scored another point. I went to bed before halftime and woke up to find I was right. Glad I got some sleep.

While they do have a ton of injuries, you simply can't play THAT poorly when there is so much on the line. Lack of discipline and leadership. No heart. Marvin Lewis, while a coach I like and respect has done all he can do there.

Between following the Bengals and Texans, I think I would have more fun driving nails into the back of my hand !!!
I'm interested to see what Mallett is going to do in the Browns game.
Hope the Texans don't sleep on them like the Bengals did.
See you guys in a couple of weeks !!!

Have a great Friday !!!

And things can also get better. :barman:

The contract is what makes me tend not to be mad about Dalton. While he's not a franchise QB, they aren't really paying him in that manner, although people just like to throw out 100 some odd million. The Bengals are in a position to be able to cut him after next season and not take some crazy hit in the cap.

Take a look at the Cutler, Flacco, or Ryan contracts. Flacco has a lombardi, so you know he's not going anywhere, but there is no way either the Bears or Falcons can get rid of Cutler or Ryan. It's like contemplating a divorce and that saying of, it's cheaper to keep'em.

Hoping good Andy can show up a few more times this season, but they aren't in a good spot right now.
My son is going crazy thinking about the trip down there in a couple weeks !!!

Let's compare worst games and career average and see if Dalton is worse.

People can say what they want, but outside of having that dynamic QB, most would love to have a serviceable QB they could build a team around and gave them a chance to win. Dalton, with all of his flaws is that. A serviceable game manager that they have built the team around.

As it stands now, their #1 WR won't be 100% again this season and has missed games, their #2 WR is on IR. Tyler Eifert hasn't made it back from his week 1 injury. 3 of the 5 starting O-linemen have missed games. On defense, they have had 3 games with backups starting all three linebacker spots. Geno Atkins still isn't 100% coming back from the ACL and the other run stopping DT, has missed significant time as well.

The injuries, especially with the starters have been brutal.
That being said, the next man up shouldn't produce the pathetic display we saw Thursday.

Fitzpatrick ?? Can anyone truly say they would rather him over Dalton ??
There's simply no way. None. Everyone knew how his story was going to end in Houston.
EVERYONE.

I just wish O'Brien had recognized it.

part of me thinks he took the chicken way out by getting a "seasoned vet" instead of taking his lumps this season while molding a promising rookie.

I haven't watched Tannehill much this season, so interested tonight. That BUF defense is eating up his line, though. He's not holding the ball on the sacks, either. They're just getting there at the end of his drop.

I just realized there are a couple of former Texans starting in tonight's game.

Mario Williams, with 3.5 sacks... the last one was awesome as he bulldozed the RT into Tannehill before he pounced on the Aggie.

&

Earl Mitchell.... not a lot for the stat sheet, but he did rack up a sack.

Let's compare worst games and career average and see if Dalton is worse.

Not my point at all.

I'd rather pay a below average guy $7M over 2 years to be what he is than pay an average guy $96M over 6 yrs to be something he's not.

Luckily for the Bengals they can get out of that contract in 2-3 years, but to think of all the guys that franchise hasn't paid and this is the guy they finally chose to pay.

And Moore just pulled a raiders and muffed a punt on the 10 (or so)

17-10 Oakland

3rd and short and everyone forgets to cover the KC tight end
