Thoughts on the press conference?

No offense. But, you actually expect a guy with zero OC or HC experience to have some type of offensive/defensive philosophy? Bless your heart. I’m not bashing the man, as he comes off as a genuine with good people skills and good attitude. But, being an NFL is nothing you can just wing. I hope he knows what he’s doing!
I'm not bashing him either. It was a comment regarding the lack of quality questions at the press conference. It's just after 27 years, he's coached in multiple offenses, he has coached against multiple defenses. Based on that, I would think he has a preference on offense based on terminology, complexity and even being able to get young players up to speed fast. Same thing with the defenses he has seen that has given his teams the most problems.

He should not have said anything other than DeShaun Watson is a Houston Texans. If there will be a trade we don't want to do anything more to negatively impact a possible trade in the future
I didn't like his answer to the Deshaun question. If I were DW that answer would stick in my craw a bit. Maybe not escalate things, but irritate me.

I would have preferred something that acknowledges the situation. "Watson is a Houston Texans & Nick has ensured me he's committed to keeping it that way."

Anybody who thinks Easterby did not have a hand in Culley's hiring is delusional. The fact that Culley was in the mix is evidence of that. Culley is happy just to have the opportunity and will be a "culture fit" and is perfectly disposable. Josh McCown is the coach in waiting. You know it, I know it.

The Texans promoted someone who was under qualified (Jack Easterby) because of his faith and the value that the McNair family places on faith.
What are the qualifications for VP of team development? What are the qualifications for VP of football operations?

What qualifications does Easterby lack?

It's ridiculous for us to talk about this & qualifications or lack thereof. These jobs are handed off to people all the time in all companies for whatever reason. John Elway was named VP of football operations because he was a legend in Denver & no other qualifications. He bounced the GM & took over his job duties, & did a pretty good job with no previous personnel experience.

The timing of when this under qualified person took a more prominent role coincides perfectly to when the Texans began making remarkably stupid trades that pissed most of us off.
Not even. Brown was traded way before Easterby, Clowney a bit before. Only Hopkins "fits" the timeline.

They're putting under qualified people in positions they don't deserve because of their faith (please don't make me say it again that if you disagree with this, that you can't disagree with the PERCEPTION that this is true) and it has opened them and Christianity to ridicule because of their misapplication of it.
I disagree with the perception thing. Nobody in the national media is even speaking of it & when the question was broached with McClain he dam near choked.

It's only on this board that the Christian cult angle has any traction.

Truth is, there are many organizations that take the same approach the Texans have. We only focus on the Texans so it seems like all we know. But

Tony Dungy, Jim Caldwell, Chuck Pagano, Frank Reich... other than HCs of the Indianapolis Colts, guess what else they have in common.

In case anyone (like me) didn't know what Servant Leadership meant.

Did the Texans hire a football coach or a life coach? "Sure, we lost 51-7. But, we were the best persons we could be on this Sunday."
Is that different from the flatter organizational structure? If so, that didn’t last long.

This organization just can’t seem to decide on a direction to go with. Probably because their compass is spinning like a top.

I thought all of the reporters were asking snowflake questions, was disappointed in McClain especially. I was expecting him to start his question by saying,

"If you've turned your TV on in the last week or two, you have to know that the rest of the sports world look at the Texans as an absolute joke and train wreck! For you to sit here and act like there's nothing wrong is a slap in the face to all of us and especially the fans! You seem to be the only ones in the sports world that don't realize that you are choosing Jack Easterby over DW4! Is Jack Easterby more valuable to the team that DeShaun Watson, and if not, why is he still employed by the team?!? And David, do you realize the dumpster fire you just walked into?"

Something like that would have been my opening shot to Nick Caserio (since Cal chose to avoid any questions) Probably right before security escorted me out of the bldg.

McClain wouldn't do that because then he wouldn't be the first one called on.

But if Nick has not assured or been assured that Watson will remain a Texan wouldn't he have been just creating a bigger problem eventually? I would prefer Clarity also but that might not be the best if a trade is in the future. Is it not about time for another cryptic tweet from number four?

but I can see a two to three year plan that will see us winning more than losing
Could you show me the quotes on their 2-3 year plan? I missed it somehow.

Please stop with the Elway vs. Easterby comparisons. You're convincing no one on this really poor analogy.

Get outside the bubble. It's everywhere.
I wonder what the value of the team is with DW4 VS without DW4?
Still an NFL team that prints money. That's how historically bad franchises like Cincy and Detriot continue to survive and thrive. Win (LOL), lose (a lot), or draw, the Texans will make $$$$ and increase their value.

Point taken but the Broncos kept their current GM for a year to advise Elway and Elway did not report to the Broncos owner. What experienced person was in Texans the organization to advise Jack Easterby when he assumed EVP of football operations or even OB the GM at their time of promotion? Cal? :backsout:

It's a representation of our luck maybe but not me. Cal and NFL Koresh can be stupid on their own. I am a football orphan until something changes. I've had more then 1 cowboy fan ask me my thoughts on the Texans this week. I shocked them by explaining I no longer gave a damn.

Sincerely,
The FUCS Club
Tell your Cowboy friends their team is still out of contention longer than the Texans have been.

By the stories told, it looks like Caserio has a twenty-year relationship with Culley, so I am more inclined to believe that this is closer to a group of similar-minded (faith really) joining together than some Easterby contrived master plan. In fact, more inclined to believe that Caserio pushed for Culley over Easterby.

Still like most things Texans, this the result of groupthink over a single person's vision
I'm kinda with you on this. You know what else I pulled out of that? You never know who will be your boss.

From what little I saw of the presser Culley struck me as a man who's first and most of all just thrilled to finally be an NFL HC, and I doubt if it really makes that much difference which team it is and who their QB is.
And regarding the GMs statement about the organization having 0 interest in trading DW4: problem is DW4 apparently has 0 interest
in playing for the organization.

Probably knows he is a scapegoat.

He turns it around, the Texans org looks brilliant.

He doesnt, this mess will be on him (the org hopes) rather than admit their incompetence of giving OB power over all, while proving capable at none.
He's the HC that will be taking the L's during the rebuild.

Think Bo Porter.

Meh, I love Watson and no doubt he is the answer at QB for someone...... but I cant stand drama.

Its not like you went from contender to pretender over night. You knew the mess you were in before you signed.

Be a man and stand by your word, at least long enough for the ink to dry.

I hate to see the talent go, but will never cry over the departure of a diva.

Do I understand his desire to leave? Yes.... but if he was that unhappy, dont sign. That simple.

I disagree with this. I think almost every position coach thinks about the day he might become HC, and already knows what kind of schemes he would run.
I'm not even in football, but I think about how I would run a business if I decided to started one.

His signing of extension was brilliant move by his agent, keeping his cap cost low 2020 and putting almost 30 million in his bank account minus said agent's cut. He will sign at least one more WOW and perhaps two. If trade was in planning stages then and the no trade clause indicates to me it was, his new team will have a cap hit 2021 almost same as it was 2020. Let's get onto act 2 in this Shakespearean play.

His agent did his job, no doubt... but the man isnt his agent.

It is Watson the man that chooses to be "extra" or not. Unless Watson is doing as those around him tell him to do and isnt a man but instead a boy, which if is the case Easterby is right to contact his mother and warn of those around him according to the rumors.

Not knowing him personally I am going to give him the benefit of assuming that Watson is a man that makes his own choices and believe, if true, that Easterby is just a snake. You can make the right moves for your career WITHOUT the drama.

Again, I understand perfectly his desire to leave. I just dont care for all the crying about it now.

Do y'all think he's giving up? The ole "I can't win here because of the culture" philosophy? Rather than rally JJ march up to Caserio's office and say "we aren't playing because of this this or this". I just never pegged him for a quitter, and to lose to Easterby and McNair, when he's far more popular.

LOL at some of y'all thinking if they just fire Easterby that DW4 will want to remain in Houston. That ship has sailed, truth is this is about money for both DW4 and his GF who I'm sure is playing a part behind all of this. Truth is DW4 can make more money and his GF will be happier in NY.

The blaming of Easterby is just low hanging fruit for fans that are idealistic.

How do you deal with the DW4 situation, and if you dont get what you want in a trade then DW4 stays in Houston regardless if he wants to be here or not.

Yes that's what I believe he's doing. Basically quitting. I'm starting to think him and his agent had this stuff planned.

Nope not quitting just taking his new priorities to better for him location. We always hear football is a business and he is moving on up to penthouse in New York.

Is he though?

The NYJ's have sucked for yrs.

This is why I say DW4 wanting to be traded is more about money than winning. Otherwise he should want to go to another team with a minority GM/HC, (Racist if you ask me) the Redskins would be the team he should want to be traded to if winning a championship was his burning desire. Good riddance

At the start of this, yes. Remove Easterby, get a solid football guy in place. Get real football guys to follow him. Fixed.

Since then, we've seen more of Kyle. Kyle is scary. This is not like it was under Bob. This is very different. Keeping Watson isn't going to stop this train from going downhill. Getting Bieniemy wasn't going to stop it. Jimmy Johnson couldn't stop it.

I'm taking Bobby Knight's advice. If it's inevitable, relax and enjoy the show. It will be spectacular.

Just an assumption based on a realistic goal. I sure as heck do not see a turnaround beeing faster than that. What I do look for is a team that plays hard and competes every week. If they struggle some due to a lack of talent that is understandable. I do not expect giant steps but regular sized steps are for sure what I expect. If the coaching is not the problem and is sound than I am okay with it.

I know your leaning on us being set back even further. While on paper the coaching staff does not blow anybody away, sometimes a change in coaches and chemistry will do wonders. I do not see the coaches on our team as being totally incompetent.

I do not see Culley as being a part of this team for the long term but if him and his staff can get us to respectable before we move on to the next phaze than all will good in my eyes.

As far as my thinking, I do not see a 65 year old 27 year veteren coach who has never been a coordinator being the key to us being in a Superbowl let alone win one. I do think we can be fun to watch and seeing us climb that latter to success will please me.

Anything better would for sure be a welcome surprise. Sometimes surprises happen.

I still think the Agent is driving most of this. He complains on twitter that he can only get minority clients.. He is building his own brand to get more clients
