Thoughts on the press conference?

100% international the heaven's gate cult leader (aka "nfl koresh" aka Rasputin) wasn't mentioned.
Just to clarify Marshall Applewhite was the leader of Heaven's Gate and 39 members who committed suicide. David Koresh was the leader of the Branch Davidians. The Kool-Aid that is often reference on this message board was the drink suicide for those in the cult of Jim Jones in Jonestown Guyana.

Less now for me. Calling Watson "the player"? That's how you bring everyone together?

He seemed to be cheer leading.

Seemed like a cheerleader that can run a pep rally. Expected the faux press conference to end with an Up With People performance.

Easterby wanted Josh McCown, so I guess that's a mini win.

Is McClain just chronically (no pun intended) wrong? Or playing stooge for the local team? I can't tell anymore. Maybe I never could tell.

I had low expectations for this bogus presser. And it still fell short. Cal (you can call me Kyle) showed what a coward he is by hiding in a back conference room. Certain that Rasputin was there, holding his hand. Where is Charley Casserly and Dom Capers when you need them?
Did you actually POST that about McClain? Lol

Your clarification is for others. I'm familiar with the history of it all as well as the mass German city suicides before the red army.

Easterby still fits the profile.

The coach’s press conference was an absolute joke. Texans didn’t allow very many questions. Not a single follow up. There was a softball about him being recruited as a player in the 70s, a question from the season ticket holder, etc. This team is a joke and an embarrassment to Houston. I’d rather not have an NFL team than this crap. Oh, David Culley sounded like a Lakewood, evangelical fraud like the lot of them.
I happen to be an Evangelical. I think you're getting a little personal. Don't paint all of us with the same brush.

This could have been the best press conference in the history of press conferences and many of you would down play it to your expectations.

I think it was a solid press conference and that is good enough for me. I didn't get the feeling that our team will soon be a dynasty but I can see a two to three year plan that will see us winning more than losing. That depends on if DW4 remains and can stomache at least one more crappy season.

Yes. What did people expect culley to say. I thought it was refreshing that he was absolutely giddy about becoming a head football coach after all this time. He should not have said anything other than DeShaun Watson is a Houston Texans. If there will be a trade we don't want to do anything more to negatively impact a possible trade in the future

Perhaps when viewed through a ww2 perspective. As a cult leader though its on target.
You thinking and stating/comparing the Houston Texans are a cult is ridiculous. Saying they are a poorly run and inefficient organization is one thing. Saying the Texans are a cult because they have Christians in the front office and Easterby is a cult leader is wrong.
Someone throws out a comment and then others run after them like a flock of cackling chicken after someone spreading corn on the ground.

Everybody knows easterby is up Cal's skirt. Your a little late to the party.

Chill.

I absolutely know what has been done and said since Jack easterby has gotten here. Some of the comments are call for and many are not. I came at you because You keep posting a sick joke. You have the Emoji of the cult leader no one else.
Powda, you are intelligent and can voice your comments without stooping so low. Name calling doesn't suit you.

And no I'm not late to the party. I am not attending a party.

If you're issue is my avatar I can change it to koresh or j Jones. I'm not looking to disparage anyone's beliefs but easterby is so far in cals head the cult reference just fits.

Thats funny - but let's all regroup. @badboy your a man of faith. You have my upmost respect. If I infringed I apologize.
Criticize me directly for what I say or do. I just think it's wrong to lambast any group due to Religion, race, sex or age.

I think all mean well but the comments around here lately remind me of a Lynch Mob. Someone says something and then it turns into a burning Barn with no thought of the animals or people that get burned.

Your avatar is your avatar. Your comments are what I read. You did not disparage anyone's beliefs. I do think it is odd that someone chooses an Avatar of a person that's responsible for many other peoples deaths. That is another matter. if I wanted to make an issue of that I would have simply sent you a private message for you and I to discuss.

I've compared various cult leaders to Easterby. Maybe that was poor taste but I'll continue to do so. I haven't aimed at any sect. It just fits because cal is brainwashed.

Im to ignorant to know who's who usually. I have no honest religious affiliations or grievance.

Your opinions are definitely your own. You're the one that said they were in bad taste and you're going to continue.
If you don't get the humor behind it your welcome to ignore me. I dont expect you or anyone else to agree with me 100% and thats fine.

I didn't say anything about your beliefs. I referenced cult leaders. You went ballistic after that. I've already apologized for possibly infringing on you. Not sure what else you'd like me to say.

If thats not good enough, f off.

You apologised for possibly infringing then said you would continue to do so. Do you not see that completely waters down your apology? You said your comments were in bad taste but going to say them anyway. Why apologise then?

What do I want you to say? For example say that easterby is getting in Cal McNair his head. Everybody knows what you mean without comparing easterby to cult leaders who have killed people. I try to think before I say something.

Your last sentence just highlights what I am saying.

Back to football for me.

It was a cheap shop aimed at the head of the church.
My personal beliefs got in the way.
I chose to delete it & offered an apology out of respect to the board.
I respect what you did. It is easy to get our personal stuff caught up in other things.

The Texans promoted someone who was under qualified (Jack Easterby) because of his faith and the value that the McNair family places on faith. You can ABSOLUTELY argue that this is untrue. But what you cannot argue is that they left the door open for that to be the PERCEPTION. The timing of when this under qualified person took a more prominent role coincides perfectly to when the Texans began making remarkably stupid trades that pissed most of us off. You can argue that this was a coincidence, but if you're honest, you have to respect those who believe that Easterby played a role in the stupidity occurring within the organization which perfectly coincided with his rise to power. When BOB was fired, the McNairs had the opportunity to get a clean slate. But they chose to keep Easterby. Maybe you think there were valid reasons, but again, you cannot deny that the PERCEPTION for why they kept Easterby was because of his faith. Since that time, we have hired people that many/most believe are under qualified. It may be a coincidence that they all happen to be Christians (please don't tell me you think it was a coincidence), but again, you cannot deny that they have created the PERCEPTION that the reason these people were hired was because of their faith. And if you want to argue that they didn't open the door to being PERCEIVED this way, then why in the hell is everyone talking about it? Of course they did.

So, they have at a minimum given the PERCEPTION that they made disappointing decision after disappointing decision because of their faith, and you're going to get upset when fans take a swipe at that faith? The McNairs are the ones that made Christianity an issue with this team, not those expressing their feelings about how this has let them down. And BTW, I'm talking as a Christian. I'm in the same boat as the McNairs as far as valuing faith over everything else. But I've been around Christianity long enough to know that Christians have different interpretations of how to live that out. Tony Dungy got into this controversy awhile back. I don't remember all the details but I remember listening to him on the Dan Patrick show explaining how someone had completely misrepresented what he said about favoring Christians and he had to explain that as a Christian coach, he had a duty to put the best product on the field, regardless of if that person was a Muslim, atheist or whatever their beliefs were. The McNairs have mistakingly not taken that approach. They're putting under qualified people in positions they don't deserve because of their faith (please don't make me say it again that if you disagree with this, that you can't disagree with the PERCEPTION that this is true) and it has opened them and Christianity to ridicule because of their misapplication of it.

And BTW, by far the majority of the ridicule on this message board has been good natured with intended humor. Exaggeration is in bounds for humor purposes. Some people are haters but haters gonna hate. If you have a problem with that, direct your frustration at the McNairs for making this topic relevant.

I HATE long posts. Super sorry it was this long, but I couldn't think of a shorter way to say it and felt it all needed to be said.

I'm all but positive it did. It all fits together too neatly in hindsight.

We've all heard the rumor that Watson's mother made the call to Janice and Janice ultimatum to OB .... but now we know what prompted that call in the first place - Easterby.
Even if it was, & I believe it was, Cal should have nixed that idea before it got to BO’b.

A real GM would have told Cal, “This is a grown man, we can’t do this because his mother says so.”

If true, I wouldn’t wanna be associated with them either. That relationship is unfixable due to lines being crossed big time.

I missed it and cannot find on a search that Easterby had texted anyone's mother about their sons. Please guide me to that.
You would only have to follow all of the media in Houston and read their tweets. I have seen it several times. But no I have not seen the actual tweets that Jack sent

After the press conference, I still don't know Culley's offensive and defensive philosophies. Is he a 3-4 or 4-3 guy? What is his preferences and why. Is it he going to incorporate some of the things he saw under Reid and Roman into the offense?
No offense. But, you actually expect a guy with zero OC or HC experience to have some type of offensive/defensive philosophy? Bless your heart. I’m not bashing the man, as he comes off as a genuine with good people skills and good attitude. But, being an NFL is nothing you can just wing. I hope he knows what he’s doing!

Unlike guys who have been successful coordinators and come in with a particular philosophy and then try to micromanage their coordinators and not let them do their job (like pretty much all the head coaches the Texans have up to this point), Culley's coming in without that expectation and probably without that temptation to override his offensive and defensive coaches. That could be a pretty good thing.

The guy has been an assistant coach and an assistant head coach. He's been around this league for a long time and worked with a lot of good coaches. I'm sure he's seen what's going to be required of him and understands the position he's in. It's not like his highest position was just an intern or something and is some schmoe pulled off the street.

I'm not saying he's going to be any good at it, but I'm willing to let him and Caserio show me what they can do.

I may be in the minority, but i think it is fixable. Fire Easterby. Bring in experienced football people. It's not rocket science.
Oh yea if that happened it would fix the problem but it’s been pretty clear that won’t happen so that’s really why I believe this isn’t fixable.

Failure is not an option
Good point. It's up to Caserio and Culley now. If Easterby stays, I hope Watson leaves. If the rumors are true about Easterby texting both the player and his mother, dude needs to be gone. Like yesterday.
