the wave

The 1980's called and they want their fad back.

Signed,

The Macarena, people who say "oooooo" for every player with "oo" or "u" in the name, and Who Lets the Dogs Out.

But let's be real: if you enjoyed the ReliantWorld GameDay Experience®, the game is only a pretext for The Wave. :wiggle:

The 1980's called and they want their fad back.
After Battle Red day, Surrender White and Steel Blue days, the Marketing guru's up on Fannin are gonna have 70-80's throwback fan day. The fans come dressed as Love Ya Blue fans, curse black QB's, wear tiedye wigs while holding John 3:16 signs, and half the stadium will be in Crazy George outfits (as a bonus some of us don't even have to shave the middle of our heads). The Texans tie this in with losing a big lead to a backup QB and for the first time - the team will fail to beat the 72 hour TV blackout deadline.

Epic post is epic. LMAO @ curse black QBs.

Someone needs to leave tickets for Elvis in will-call.

Sounds like some insecure older fans in here :)
Maybe us young fans need to go through our growing period before we can become as football savy as the rest of you.

If by "insecure" you mean "intelligent football fans", then yes. :fingergun:

You see, some of us go to games to, you know, actually watch the game and not watch what other fans are doing. As a matter of fact, some of us geezers used to go to games before there was a GameDay Experience, 3D souvenir cups, tailgating, and a dude dressed in a bull costume. ahhh, those were ancient times, when a team was actually expected to win in order to sell out a stadium. :D

You will never be as football savvy as us.

You're too damned young and however much older you get, you'll still be younger than us.

Hell. You can't even spell 'savvy' right. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!?

:wadepalm:

Kids these days.

Fixed that for ya!

I haven't read the entire thread (if you can believe that), so this may have already been covered. But what if two waves were originated in opposite directions? What would happen we these irresitable forces collided on the opposite side of the field? An explosion? An implosion? A confused yawn? Inquiring minds want to know.

Inception. :Nods:

I haven't read this this entire thread either, and I wouldn't if you paid me. But the way I see it, if you're taking part in the wave, then you're not watching the game. And if you don't want to watch the game, you should give your seat/ticket up to somebody who wants to.

You don't see other teams fans doing this nonsense when the offense is on the field. If you haven't been there before, at least try to act like it.

Its not that the people doing the wave weren't watching the game... They were just being distracting to our offense on the field while having a little fun haha. But anyways, I don't agree with "the wave" while our offense is on the field but considering the Texans pretty much had the game in their back pocket... I really don't think its that big of a deal.

Okay, wave-lovers, here's the skinny:

Schaub: Stop Doing The Wave

Wtf was that? Thanks for not doing it RT @tcumike:Congrats on another win.I apologize on behalf of the fans for the wave.I DIDN'T PARTICIPATE

If they can't concentrate with the wave going on, how in the world will they ever survive in opposing stadiums?

It was loud, but not LOUD. There no reason it should have been an issue for our Offense. Scapegoating the fans for something that lasted (at most) 4 minutes is nuts.

Key to beating the Texans:

Have the fans do the wave. Apparently some of our offensive players and coaching staff find it very distracting.

=========

Great thread. I wonder if it can reach "Orlando Pace visits the Texans" proportions? Probably not, since it isn't in the off-season and it will be overtaken by more current events soon.

My thoughts exactly. Why is everyone up in arms over this? Who cares? I get that we need to be quiet on offense (duh) and I always am, but how does that really affect the offense, the answer is: it shouldn't. We still have 8 road games a year right?

I can't listen to it at work, so I have no idea what he said in context. But based on the post, I'm just going with what I've got. And if he called out the fans for cheering too much, then wow, lame move on Schaub's part. Right or wrong, when a player calls out the fans.... not a smart move.

Bite the hand that feeds you and everything..

You just had to worry about Crazy George busting your ear drum.

If you're bitching about the wave you have turned into this guy.

Stay off my LAWN ya damn kids!!!!!

ha im dying here...so its ok for you to demand stupid **** like 'call better plays' but if schaub has the nerve to ask for a bit of quiet on offence at home, the ignorant go mad at him

I was at the game, the wave really wasn't that loud.. it's always a lot louder in that stadium. You would think they would be happy they the fans are actually having fun.

After a long week at work and in these trouble econimic times and drought and drepression of the on coming hectic holiday season the people of houston acctually united and sequenced into doing something together thus the wave was bound to happen lol

*sigh*

You do realize that they gameplan different for road games, yeah?

For instance, they practice hand signals and specific plays to be called when they know that they are going to deal with a hostile crowd. They also bring in massive speakers into the practice bubble to condition themselves for the noise distractions.

I guess they did not realize that they would have to do it for their own homefield crowd, who doesn't have the sense to not help the other team.

He's not scapegoating anything. They just expect homefield fans to be smarter about this situation. If anything, their expectations are too high. :hmmm:

Ya'll are going to crack me up if you do this during a playoff game at Reliant. And you can defend it until you're blue in the face, but ESPN, NFLN, and the rest of the league are going to see it for what it really is at the end of the day.

Wait, wait, wait a minute. I can deal with 2D cups, but no bull mascot? :cow:

d'oh! Always pick the first one!

Although, you whippersnappers do miss out on one badass thing...

He's not biting anyone. He was asked a question, and he gave an honest answer.

Do you really think he'd lie about crowd noise and it's effect on the offense? Jeesh, this is Football 101 stuff. I'm really surprised that so many are bamboozled by the ReliantWorld GameDay Experience® that you cannot comprehend basic homefield strategy.

You just had to worry about Crazy George busting your ear drum.

lol! Funny enough, I met him (again) at a Houston Stallions game a few months ago. His business card claims that he invented the wave! :D

Crazy George

KRAZY GEORGE INVENTED THE WAVE
On October 15, 1981
At the Oakland A’s New York Yanks Playoff Game.
This caused the whole world to stand up and cheer
as the wave circles stadiums around the world

p.s. I'm not calling any of you lesser fans or even calling you out. I'm just having fun with the subject. Silly stuff in the end. :joker:

I don't think it's as much not knowing Football 101, DB.

Rather, most of them could give a **** if the team wins or not. Winning is not really "entertainment".

Good post, BTW.

Schaub's answer was nice, he wasn't rude or calling the fans out.

Everyone knows to be quiet on offense or should know that.

At the same time, it wasn't that loud. I was there, I did not participate , but no louder that it was if the offense can't deal with that amount of noise I don't know what to say. Regardless whether than game plan for absolutley no noise for home games or not. That wouldn't be too smart, I have heard opposing fans in our OWN stadium make more noise than that.

I guess preparation for home games goes like this:
Cowboys, Steelers or other popular teams, we need to be ready for noise while we are on offense even in our stadium. No biggie.

Jaguars or other less popular team, no noise at all in the stadium ESPECIALLY the wave, or the offense will not be able to function and get an illegal procedure penalty.

LOL.

I donno if you have been to other stadiums but most teams with an educated fan base have fans that are quiet as a mouse when their teams are on offense. Hell, go to Nashville and its amazing how quiet it gets in that stadium. Last time I went, Steve McNair was the QB, but you could hear all his calls clearly every time they were on offense. I attribute that to the high football IQ from the SEC fans in the area, because there wasn't much NFL action around there till then unless you drove down to Atlanta to watch the Falcons. Our fans? Hate to say it, but they have a lot of work to do. I bet they embarrass us in the playoffs with the friggin' wave...while we are on O again to boot. I get a feeling that at least half the stadium is only there for the social event.

We SHOULD be quiet as a mouse, no doubt about it. However, a little noise shouldn't throw the offense off.

The real question to me is how much of that is "corporate seats" that are giving out to people that just aren't anything more than fair weather fans? IDK. And how much of that is related to a LOT of opposing fans in the stadium against certain more popular opponents?

You might be right about the social event angle, IDK.

This is going to insulting to somebody, if not many somebodies. I never just what was fun about the wave. I stand up, throw my hands in the air and make some noise while waiting for the group next to do the exact same thing. Always seemed like group think where reacting and yelling for no reason was the reason for doing it. I mean, the dude who starts it is always some drunk, attention seeker who barely knows a first down from a touchdown.

I've sat in those seats the bulk of the games I've gone to and let me tell you...it aint the corporate people starting the wave. They may be starting a conversation with a scantily dressed blonde at the bar, noshing on the 12 dollar buffet style table or paying the waiter for his food that he doesn't have to go stand in line for....club level guy makes more noise ordering a mixed drink than he does starting something like the wave. There aren't many cartoon types in that section.

He had quite a bit MORE than a 'bit' of quiet. You could hear crickets chirping when the Offense kept going silent.

*sigh*

You do realize that they gameplan different for road games, yeah?

Uhm, yeah, I'm aware of different game-planning for home games, what exactly is you point? Are you saying that our Offense is incapable of "improvising"? That a lineman less than 10 feet from the QB couldn't get the snapcount right because there was a minor level of noise in the stadium? I guess they really can't execute the PAT very well, because the din after scoring a TD never quiets down in time.

For God's sake, it lasted UNDER five minutes and you know what...all the previous "silence" sure wasn't helping them move the chains very effectively.

Next, I guess we have to keep opposing fans percentages below a certain level to prevent Cowboys/Steelers/Raiders fans from distracting our offense? Yep, you guessed it, they were LOUDER than the "wave noise".

Texans players AND fans need to can the whining on this. Maybe we can be quieter if less fans show up....like All-Tarp stadium? :choke:

so are you saying the Houston fans are incapable of being quiet like in other stadiums around the league or us Houstonians just don't care? Ignorance or apathy? Sounds like you think it doesn't matter. Go yell at Tiger woods sometime as he is getting ready to drive.

Lol.. maybe we could hire some hecklers to sit in the front row and rough up the players.. Wonder if this guy is available..

Sorry Happy Gilmore just sprouted to my brain here total derail, but would be funny to see a heckler follow golfers around.

Uhm, yeah, I'm aware of different game-planning for home games, what exactly is you point?

My point was to educate you about something you seem ignorant about, especially when you make the following statement:

There no reason it should have been an issue for our Offense.

And yet, there's our STARTING QB stating that it is an issue.

So when you suit up and lead an offense in the NFL, perhaps I will elevate your opinion to be equal to that of a professional QB.

Otherwise, you're just defending nonsense for some phantom reason(s).

Are you saying that our Offense is incapable of "improvising"? That a lineman less than 10 feet from the QB couldn't get the snapcount right because there was a minor level of noise in the stadium? You should call Schaub's radio show with your expert opinion and challenge him on it, since you seem incapable and/or unwilling to accept his wisdom as a starting QB in the NFL.

Texans players AND fans need to can the whining on this. Maybe we can be quieter if less fans show up....like All-Tarp stadium?

You see whining, and I see stupid is as stupid does.

And on my side, we have basic logic (i.e. be quiet for your offense, noisy for your defense), and years of NFL history, along with perspective from, you know, the guys that actually play the game.

On your side, we have drunk doofus starting a wave because he's not interested in the game anymore.

Even VY thinks this is goofy. :vincepalm:

Actually, I've heard inappropriate noise in numerous NFL stadiums over the years. This is the first time I've heard a player / team whine about it.

My point was to educate you about something you seem ignorant about, especially when you make the following statement:

Wow, namecalling DB, really? :vincepalm:

I'm neither ignorant or unaware of the situation. I was THERE. I was also THERE at the Raiders, Steelers and Cowboys games and the noise was LOUDER at all of them. Logic tells me that if the Offense could handle it in THOSE circumstances, then they should have been able to handle it on Sunday, period.

I neither started the wave, nor made any additional sound when it came round MY way. Wagging a finger at me is pointless. My logic says not to do it, I didn't. I still say it shouldn't have affected any NFL team. I'm not encouraging it to get any louder either.

As for calling Schaub's radio show, I'd love to, but the PANSIES at SR610 couldn't handle any tough callers, so they resorted to texts only from the "callers".

So, keep up the huge hue and cry over what amounts to less than spilt milk if it's what makes you happy. I'd prefer our team to do what happens when a call doesn't go their way.....Shut up and play.

I think the point is that the fans are creating an unneccesary, additional obstacle for the team to overcome. And yes, crowd noise can really affect the game.

The team shouldn't use that as a crutch, but the fans shouldn't really be making it harder on the team either.

ha im dying here...so its ok for you to demand stupid **** like 'call better plays' but if schaub has the nerve to ask for a bit of quiet on offence at home, the ignorant go mad at him

I'm getting a little tired of being called ignorant here. That wave had nothing to do with the fans not knowing any better.

I'm usually not one to get on this team for conservative play calling. Or being flat, or choking at unopportune times.

But the fans in the stadium that day had a choice. They could do the wave.... or they could watch the offense. 60,000 of them decided to do the wave.

I remember GP talking about going to the Raiders game. He was very disappointed. halfway through the second Qtr he was sulking in the back of his chair as he waited for the inevitable.

It wasn't until the third, that I had that feeling.

Maybe we should bring up that thread, so we can so who was bitxing about the offense that day.

The fans @ Reliant that day preferred to do the wave than to watch the offense let another one slip away.

That was our third home game this year. That was the same 60,000 season ticket holders... those guys weren't anymore ignorant for all the other games they had been to.

They made a choice, at the very least, instead of asking the "ignorant" fans to be quiet, maybe they should try to figure out why the fans would rather do the wave (it might be the macarena next time) instead of watch them play.

Granted... WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I thought doing the wave was great as a kid and added... WOOOOOOOOO... fun to my game time experience, but now? Geez... WOOOOOOOOOOO... it gets a tad distracting and a little bit old when you have somebody... WOOOOOOOOOOO... sitting behind you going "C'mon Man, let's start the WAVE" and then acts like... WOOOOOOOOOOO... you're the jackass for thinking he's a jackass.

Why do you think an opposing... WOOOOOOOOOO... teams fan base gets loud when our offense come's on the field? It's bad enough to have them... WOOOOOOOOO... making noise, is there really a need for us to screw our own team over as well?
