the wave

Seriously, 150 posts because the fans at the game did the wave??

Really????

I was watching the game on TV and I never noticed the wave or a lot of noise while the Texans were on offense till I read it on here.

Seems like some are making a mountain out or a molehill. Guess you have to have somthing to complain about - with the Texans winning, some sure have to dig deep to find something.

How many of you have actually ever been to away games? I've seen the wave at multiple NFL stadiums. I've seen it in Foxboro. I've seen it in DC. Why is it that only Texans fan are so self-insulting. We are worse to each other than other fan bases are to their rivals.

I have been to a hell of a lot of stadiums and the results have been consistent. I have never seen a crowd yelling loudly when their team had the ball..... never to the degree of noise that crowd was making on Sunday. I can always hear a pin drop when their guys have the ball....

carry on.....

Lol, well I'm pretty sure we've been to the same games in the past and I distinctly remember the fans doing the wave.

We probably have. I think that I hooked you up with a tailgate one time in DC.

I didn't post that opposing fans did not do the "wave dance". The issue isn't the "wave dance", it is the crowd noise when your offense has the ball.

I apologize on being ignorant to some of the facts that may be posted here on the subject, I didn't read through all 8 pages about the wave, but I just wanted to add my two-cents: :kitten:

First off I think with all the complaining Texans fans do about this team not being elite, if there is something a fan can do to help this organization. Do it.
That being said, it greatly helps the offense when it is dead silent in the stadium while they're putting together a drive. Then, with all that pent up energy the fans can scream their heads off when the D is out there. I can't count all of the times I've seen Schaub squeezing his helmet trying to listen to the play on an intense 4th quarter come-back. Those are the times when the fans need to be the most quiet.

So in regards of doing the wave. Personally, I think it's lame. But who cares about my opinion. What everyone should care about as a fan is to be SILENT when the offense is out.

Just sayin'. :worm:

If your own team is telling you to shut-up you are wrong.

hehe, one sentence says it all. Well said, man.

Although, it's tough to pay attention to the screen (and offense on the field) when you're watching the wave get
closer and closer to you aND THEN WHOAH! YEAh that was so much fun...

Yup. Add in wasted timeouts. It is really obvious a lot of the time when noise causes a problem.

When you see an opposing QB looking at the sideline, holding his hands on his helmet holes, and shrugging at the OC because he can't hear the play...yeah, crowd noise doesn't make a difference [/sarcasm]...

I have never seen 'The Wave' outside of a baseball stadium. Do football crowds normally do this?

I've see it at college games, but do not recall it happening much at Texans games.

Speaking of baseball, I have yet to figure out when you're supposed to yell. I've see it when the Astros were playing both offense and defense, and for the life of me, I still can't figure out the logic. It's so simple with football...

BTW, for the pro-wave folks, I'm not calling you lesser fans by any means. I just like the idea of fans being a true "12th man" for our defense, because any competitive edge - even the slightest - is cool to me as a fan, especially being a small part of it. But, for it to happen, it has to be opportunistic, and the defense has to respond accordingly. Bad defenses cannot be made better by the crowd. That much I know for certain.

No Kidding.....
I can attest to that too....
I have been up to Indy for road games against the Colts.....You could here a pin drop when Payton is trying to call a play.

I'm not complaining about the offense, I'm complaining about the bland offensive play-calling. run, run, pass, punt. All I'm saying is mix it up a little bit... run, pass, pass, punt. Pass, run, run, punt....

It's not difficult to get my attention.

1. what we were doing was working. 21 pts (shoulda been 24) thru 3 q's against a stellar D. sorry if winning football bores you. you mightnt enjoy the rest of the season

2. ask the ravens how being pass happy v the jags goes for you

3. i already told you the offence had been mixing it up throwing on 1st down on two of the 5 plays on the td drive before the wave & throughout the 3 q, which shows up your 'protest' rationale as pure bs

If you want to know how a home team crowd is suppose to be while their team is on offense, watch the Colts at home. You can literally hear Manning calling out the plays and the audibles at the line. Everybody in that stadium that is a Colts fan is quiet while Manning is at the line. When the defense is on the field, loud as hell....

It is truly crazy just how quite their crowd gets when Manning is working the offense....

Peyton Manning. THE Peyton Manning. Gee I wonder why people have more respect for Peyton Manning and the Colties....let's see here....why......hmm.....

I'm all out of ideas.

I seriously love this. I'm going to start a wave every drive lol....

NoFunLeague

If it was wrong, then why did it feel so good? And since this is literally everyone who was at the game that WASN'T waving...where are the 70,000 or so who were?

Alright I'll compromise. I'll start a wave at the beginning of every defensive stand so it doesn't offend the other 80 people who weren't doing it to begin with. In fact, we'll coordinate with someone from the other side, we'll do it at the same time, both clockwise and call it the Texan's Tornado. The goal is to start it, get it going and then get everyone to keep it going and also to keep going faster and faster until it's just a big wooshing, swirling, angry chorus and everyone is up and cheering for a big 3rd down stop. It will be an undeniable stamp. The cherry on top of this renewed defense. An identity. It will be awesome.

Oh yeah, how come we don't do that? Because let's face it, we're not THAT good of a fanbase. We don't have a simple J E T S JETS JETS JETS chant. We're not known for being loud or...on time. Our fanbase doesn't encompass much territory. We've got no songs (I don't count whatever that fuuutbaww tiiime in hyyoouuuckston crap is). We have a team name which describes a heavy portion of the people playing the game and yet have so little success to show for it.

There was a wave. Then there was a wave of tears. I'm out on this thread. Unless it goes another 20 pages...............................

I think the vast overwhelming majority of people here get it; when the home team has the ball, be quiet. For the handful of yall that winning football is not entertaining enough and/or you want to “protest” the offense, here you go:
If you want the team to run the ball and they pass it: lead everyone in the macarena
If you want the team to pass the ball and they run it: the locomotion
If you want the team to go for it on fourth down: the YMCA

If you want something to b*tch about from yesterday's game, b*tch at whoever plans halftime shows, because the band that performed at half time from some school in this area conveniently wore Jags colors.

Still, nobody said anything about being pass happy. The play calls last week were much better, get Arian open in space.

Say what you want, I was there. I personally know 30 people who were in close proximity of me & we know when to make noise & when not to make noise.

When we saw what was going on on the field, we made a conscious decision to do the wave. After the false start, we were still doing the wave because we didn't agree with the play calling or the execution.

We stopped after the fumble... I felt a little guilty & culpable..... but hey, you go ahead & make up your mind about people you don't know about a situation you don't know about, because you weren't there.

we need something to break up this animosity....

you were at a football game we were winning.. not some war or other atrocity so ease up on the ('you just dont understand, you werent there' *breaksdown*) scarred hero persona there

you see the same 'boring' playcalls & execution whether you're at the stadium or watching on tv (prob ever better than most of the crowd who had the sun in their eyes) so dont act like you had some insight just because you were there.

why'd you stop doing the wave? we ran the (same boring) **** out of the ball on the drive after too. why not continue your 'protest' to really show how strongly you felt then too?

Thanks for the rational thoughts, gtexan. For all of the comments here accusing other fans of being stupid, uninformed, etc. This is the most thoughtful comment I've seen.

Let's assume that the crowd noise was completely responsible for the false start penalty. This seems fair enough to me.

First, the stadium was not loud during this. It was certainly not dead quiet, but to characterize the stadium's noise level as 'loud' during the wave incident is just not accurate. In fact, it was a whisper compared to what the Texans offense is likely to experience during ANY road playoff game in the NFL.

If this offense cannot play through that low level of crowd noise, then many of you will soon have plenty more to complain about than an unruly home crowd.

I know right if the texans cant handle this then a road Playoff game u might has well chalk it up there done

I think its silly to think the wave caused the penalty or fumble. I don't like the wave because I think its outdated and played out. That's just my personal opinion. But I also think the bored argument is pretty weak too. If we're getting bored with winning then something is wrong.

I never said bored I said least interesting. We're up in the 4th and everyone knows we're running the ball. I can argue that fans were doing the wave celebrating not just the success in that game but the entire season and the fact that we're in control of the AFC South. I suspect towards the end of the season we'll see a lot of things we're not accustom to in Reliant as we've never been in this situation before (assuming we hold this lead).

Lets hope so after 10 years of misery .....right now this feels good its like unknown terr LOL

I will issue a decree. No score and 27 hours ago. The Texan Faithful (well most of them decided to do a wave) while the Texans had the ball. The football "purists" were not amused. From this day forward, in order to pacify the football "purists" moans and groans. No wave shall be established or any entertaining sound or movement shall proceed during the Texans' drive. May the Good Lord have mercy on all our souls.

:hurrah: Now that is funny.

Rep coming your way.

"The wave"????

REALLY??!?! Stop it please. If anyone, ever in sections 115, 116, 117 or 118 starts "the wave" please expect a visit from my fist to your junk!!! That is all.

I don't really care if people want to start a wave. I have learned to not let small stuff like that bother me. But just a thought. It's really hard to start a wave during a defensive series in a close game since most of the stadium is standing and yelling. Just saying.

If you were chuck norris you could just punch the wave itself.

AJ's take

The bad:

The fans. What a terrible showing today. Arrived late, left early, sat on their hands until some fools in the upper reaches of the south end zone started the 'wave' when the Texans had the ball on a key drive in the fourth quarter. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. The Texans had just forced a three-and-out and got the ball back in good field position with 11:35 remaining in the game. They had the lead (21-7) and the momentum, and were poised for a clock killing drive to put the Jags out of their misery. Instead, some geniuses decide that they're bored and start the wave which to my horror, picked up in intensity to the point where it caused Mike Brisiel to false start on a 2nd and 9 with 9:49 remaining. The stadium scoreboard operators frantically put up the "Quiet Offense at Work" thing on the big screen but it was too late. The clueless Texans fans/lemmings were having too much fun looking at each other and jumping up and down than to worry about what was going on with the game. One play after Brisiel's false start, Ben Tate fumbled and the momentum swung to the Jags who seven plays later cut the lead to 21-14. The Texans run a "Best Fans in the National Football League" segment before games to honor the home crowd (AC/DC's "For those about to rock, we salute you) complete with fire coming out of the chute where the players enter the field and fake crowd noise pumped in through the sound system. Best fans in the NFL? I don't think so. The Texans have a small core of great fans, but collectively they're far from the best in the NFL. What happened today was as dumb as it gets in terms of fans 'getting it.'

If not for the wave, we'd be talking about the offensive struggles, Kubiak's bland playcalling, or the guys taking their foot off the gas & struggling to finish games.

More fuel for the theory that with rising prices on tickets, parking, concessions, & PSLs, the Texans, and most teams, have priced out their most of their passionate and knowledgeable fans.

And boom goes the dynamite.

They did show the wave on tv for a sec and also showed Kubes and that D line coach i think shake his head LOL

I've been gone for most of the day only to come back and find this thread is still going strong???? We have officially hit the twilight zone as a fan base. Is there anyway we can now move on to the Browns?

What, did the browns have a wave in their stadium also? What is more important than this thread at this point in the season.

FWIW Owen Daniels commented on 790 this morning that the wave was loud and he loves the wave, but it needs to be done on defense.

Just for fun, and to keep this thread going to tick a few of you off, :aggressive: j/k. A friend of mine told me the wave started in the upper corner of the 600 section and it took them a while to get it started. SOOOOO, maybe in their defense, our D was on the field when they tried to get it going, it just took a while. It's not something that happens every game, and hell, it was our Halloween game, so maybe some of our fans were still giddy from partying half the night Sat and it carried over to Sunday. Who knows. Just fans having a little fun, and showing some excitement, just at the wrong time. Next time, DON'T participate, and yell at the fans around you that our O is on the field! Stop the momentum before it gets going.

Lol.. wow this thread hasn't died yet.. So what the fans did the wave.. they were having fun at a game OMG.. was it the best timing no.. was it fun well yah it was fun. Did it cause the Ben Tate fumble.. no.. sorry that's on Ben.

To grandma's point it just can't be shut on or off it takes a while, and what it has happened 2 or 3 times in the last few years, and only once when the offense.. I think the texans and the fans have other bigger fish to fry..

WAIT....so the wave at Reliant cause this kind of thread.....that actually survived this long and brought out the fan police too.

Hilarious...........:kubepalm:

Kudos to some drunk fans at the game creating a **** storm lol.

Who is wearing the fanny pack? FESS UP!

That fanny pack has a kid riding in it. So its one of those kid ruck sack things, only worn on the front. If it was a fanny pack it would be a failure though, as the positioning is off. It is not stylishly positioned slightly to the side/oblique area of the torso, as any individual would know if they had paid attention in the 80's/90's. :kitten:

So in this photo we have the perpetrators of the "outdated" wave (wasn't aware that these things had an expiration date), and it looks to be the "Anti-wave we wrote the manual on how to be real fans who purchased season tickets so we are better then fans who sit at home and watch the game on tv" crowd about mid-upper left area of the pic.
