The Senior Bowl

Davin Joseph's performance was underwhelming. The Oklahoma guard was blown off the line on numerous occasions by stronger defensive tackles in 1-on-1 drills.

Got this from the football's future site. Not promising if you expect anything other than an elite lineman cough cough brick to come in make a difference anytime soon. Oh yeah hear's what they said about brick.

Virginia offensive tackle, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, displayed the strength, agility, and mean streak that will make him an elite offensive tackle in the NFL. Expect Ferguson to be a top five pick in April.

Granted this was Monday and there were few drills but I can't help but scoff at the idea of picking up stud linemen later than sooner is anything but a remote crapshoot.

here's the rest of it

Jeff Fisher led the North team's practice on a cloudy afternoon in Mobile. Today's practiced lacked the intensity that day two and three should display as players wore shorts and contact was minimal. 1-on-1 individual drills, 7-on-7 passing drills, 9-on-7 rushing drills, and 11-on-11 practices were held.

More then any other prospect at the Senior Bowl, quarterback Jay Cutler has the most to gain. His stock has been rising sharply and a good Senior Bowl week could move him into the top 10 picks in the first round, with the Jets, Lions, or Cardinals all possibilities. However, a poor showing could drop him out of the first round completely.

Day one was an up and down practice for Cutler. On one hand he showed the incredible arm strength and size that scouts love. However, his decision making and footwork were suspect at times. This was the main knock against Cutler at Vanderbilt.

Another north QB, Michael Robinson of Penn State, was very disappointing and showed why most scouts believe he will have to play another position in the NFL. He showed poor footwork and an inaccurate arm today.

Virginia offensive tackle, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, displayed the strength, agility, and mean streak that will make him an elite offensive tackle in the NFL. Expect Ferguson to be a top five pick in April.

Davin Joseph's performance was underwhelming. The Oklahoma guard was blown off the line on numerous occasions by stronger defensive tackles in 1-on-1 drills.

Tye Hill's stock continues its meteroric rise. He displayed excellent cover skills in 1-on-1 drills, where he intercepted a pass. His pure speed and cover ability have moved him into the first round.

Will Blackmon of Boston College who played both wide receiver and cornerback, worked out at cornerback during today's practice. He had trouble covering most of the wide receivers in 1-on-1 drills and will need to have a better performance in the rest of the week or he will see his draft position slide.

Wide receiver, Derek Hagan from Arizona State had trouble catching the ball during drills and the full practice. He made two bad drops and lacked focus. He'll need to correct this tomorrow or teams may drop him on their draft boards.

I was watching the practice on NFL Network and DBrick went one on one with Mathias Kiwanuka the All American from BC and totally dominated him 2 out of the three times they went against each other. He looked very good. Very fast!!!!

Just giving some special props

Please make sure to watch a friend of mine in that game, Martin Nance, from Miami of Ohio.

He is coming off a torn ACL last season, and is one of the neatest stories i've ever heard. really good guy and i hope he comes to houston next season

I watched Daryn Colledge dominate Kiwanuka thoughout the bowl game in Boise. Only time he made a play, was from opposite side of the line.

Hahaha you got me on that last post, I had to have an avatar to refelct my real thoughts on the draft.

yes, i like it. I'm also glad to see a renewed enthusiasm in posting since we share a voice on many issues including the draft. :yahoo:

Obviously you guys missed the 7-7 drills were D'Brick gave up a sack and then again in 11-11. As said by some scouts man he really did work out and beef up from 285 which he played at around the end of the Virginia season, but the extra weight makes him a little stiff. He is still a great LT prospect, but let's not go crazy over the dude. BTW my guy Eric Winston weighed in at 307 and had probems with blitzes. He handled speed rushers and bull rushes well, but LBs got by him also. Just wanted you guys to understand that I am impartial and that even though you like a guy you have to see his weaknesses also. The main thing is who will be best for our team. I recommend you watch the bias coverage on NFL Network and then wait for Mork to give a nice long indepth report on the actual Senior Bowl.

Did you read this somewhere? Beasue I've watched teh NFL coverage twice now (TiVo is a great thing) and only 1 scak was given up in the 11 on 11 drills and it was given up by the right side of the line. What I saw of D'Brick was pretty imtressive.

I'll read anything posted here and try to be objective, atleast there is no mention of the "Great Debate". So please keep posting.

And any links anybody may have would be appreciated.

How do you give up a sack in 7 on 7. Maybe it has changed since I played last summer but the last I checked 7 on 7 doest have any offensibve lineman.
1 QB
2 RBs
4 WRs

Never seen 7 on 7 with o-lineman.

Apparently Nick Mangold is looking strong and word is he could be the first center taken in the draft. If we could somehow trade down and pick up an extra 2nd we could possibly end up with Brick, Mangold, and Pope. How sweet would that be? :thumbup

Word is Gilles is looking slow. Oh well he probably isn't the Texans type anyway.

during the season I thought very highly of Mangold as a leader and making assingments for the linemen. he would be a much higher touted C than Hodgdon who has come injury concerns. the Center I like for the Texans new scheme however is Eslinger from Minnesota, smaller, quicker, more mobile & could be there in the 3rd rd. :)

D'Brick is shaping up to look like a very good prospect. After he had gotten done tossing that BC DE around for about 10 minutes, he went up against Tapp, DE from VT who gave D'Brick some trouble in their meeting earlier during the season, and D'Brick simply tossed him to the ground right after initial contact. I'm for Bush or Young but I surely would not mind trading down, picking up some picks, and taking D'Brick and then a DE, LB, and/or TE in the 2nd rather than taking Bush or Young and then taking an OL in the 2nd.

Man, D'Brick is absolutely owning everyone he is playing against. Kiwanuka is getting the worst of it too, Colledge is also beating him to. D'Brick also got some revenge on Tapp for what he did to him during the regular season.

But Kiwanuka gets the dog dung beat out of him by everyone, including Colledge who many say won't be drafted until the second round. Could be
that Kiwanuka is overrated and D'Brick needs a better match-up to really
determine if he's as good as he looks against Kiwanuka.

I still say we don't pass up on a player like RB/VY as the #1 pick because even though D'brick is a GREAT Lt that guy Colledge isn't too far behind with all the talk about him and Scott in the ESPN coverage at their practices. Both are athletic and move their feet well. D'brick is said to have a much longer reach than most for his size which helps him fight off those blocks better.

Colledge has nothing on Ferguson IMO. Well not that matters. Both can pass protect well, but Ferguson is so much more quicker, and he will be a better run blockr in thezone blocking scheme.

That is why Fergueson will be the first linemen taken, most likely in the top 10, and Colledge will be doing good to go in the top 40. Talent seperates from the rest.

IMO d'brick will be a top 3 LT in the nfl in 3 years....WHEN he gets to 310 pounds he will be an absolute beast of a tackle!!!

Ferguson matches up well with Kiwanuka, but he should be going against Tapp or Manny Lawson on a regular basis. He's really benefitting from some weak competition at DE.
