Texans Wide Receivers

I would rather hear from Panthers fans, was he an issue there? He got traded to the Ravens and obviously didn't want to go there and not play much in a contract yr. Cant really blame him for having an attitude, they were messing with his money
Isn't he also the guy that quit on a play during his time on the steelers? He's talented no doubt but I'd take my chances else where

Three catches of six targets for 15 yd an average of 5 may not have all been on him but I just was not impressed overall. To be fair, I was probably wanting to see the stats and ability that would get him a 10 to $15 million a year contract.
In what was basically a preseason game? Davis Mill throwing the rock?

Which game did you watch? Or did you? The stats lied. Johnson can separate on a near elite level. I watched some cutups, plus what they showed during the broadcast. There is a reason why I said he is a borderline #1 on a WR poor team and a very solid #2 on a team with a bonafide stud like Nico.

No matter his performance today, I’d offer a short term contract, probably one year. Let him bet on himself. You’ll get the best version of himself next year to prove he isn’t a malcontent …then he can cash in elsewhere. Meanwhile draft a guy that can be the 3rd guy and potentially move to #2 in 2026. If Dell manages to come back in 26, great but I wouldn’t bet house money on it, so gotta go with the idea that he is done.
Where is Dionte #2 WR Johnson?

  • Diontae Johnson
acknowledged that he had an issue with a lack of targets during his 2024 stops with the Panthers and Ravens, but the wideout believes he’s in a good spot with the Texans. In fact, Johnson admitted that he was hoping to join the Texans when the Panthers shopped him at the trade deadline. “I was excited because I wanted to come here before when I was about to get traded,” Johnson said (via Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston). “Now that I’m here, fresh start and I’m looking forward to playing.”

This reminds me of when the Brett Favre era Vikings hyped up their acquisition of Randy Moss only to cut him after a couple of games for being a head case.

Dionte Johnson obviously needs to see a shrink if he wants to have a future in this league.
Totally disagree as he does not need to see a psychiatrist if he believes he is the player he thinks he is. It is hard to believe you are good, and his stats when he's on the field and being targeted supports his belief, and not be upset.

His mistake was thinking that he could come in and become Stroud's new best friend and not have to earn targets above the rest of the guys. He had the opportunity to show he was a team player and possibly get a one year deal to fully prove himself. He did not allow that to happen.

Reports are he was visibly upset and teammates had to call him down.

That ain’t staring in frustration.
Of course it can be. Everyone else jumping around high five and yelling and one guy is sitting in front of his locker staring. That is definitely being visibly upset. Anyway, the guy that I thought would not be bad is not coming back, so I'm moving on.

Disagree.. dude might be undiagnosed bipolar ala Brandon Marshall…a guy who used to do some of the same type of stuff that got him booted around the league for a bit.

Luckily for him he got the help he needed in the middle of his career and that helped him become stable enough to finish out his career on a positive note. And anyone who’s tuned into his podcast, he’s a huge proponent of mental health.

Great post. I forgot about Brandon Marshall.

Exactly or maybe not

Some needy team will bring him into camp, but if he doesn’t get his emotions under control, it will end badly.

It’s a real shame. Kid has good talent. Enough to be a very solid #2. He thinks he is a 1. Might be on some teams with less than stellar WR room, but he’s not Nico. He isn’t Justin Jefferson either. Or Amon or Garrett or a number of other better WR’s.

Given how we saw Diggs used last season and being over 30 coming off a torn ACL. Would you want him back? And at what price? I think the expectation would be around 5 catches per game and 1000 yard season give or take 100 yards assuming he plays every game.

That’s not 20 million per year but it is solid WR2 production…

How much are 1000 yard receivers paid?

If we're expecting him to get 1000 yards we should probably pay him like it. He's also usually healthy, we should take that into consideration.

It’s a few years old, but I think Christian Kirk’s 4 year 72 million contract is probably the going rate. Assuming they’d give Diggs a 1-2 year deal at 18 million/year I think is workable. Especially since we can assume Tank wont be around next season.

Nico is clear WR1 at just over 24 million/year.

The high end WR2 money would be Devonta Smith at 25 million/year or Jaylen Waddle near 30 million (!) for that 1000 yard season production. Obviously that’s too much.

Diggs is an older player, im sure he won't have a problem with voidable years.

Players always want their teammates back.

This money will be better spent on the OL IMHO.

100% agree! I would rather see them fix the offensive line in free agency and then targets for CJ in the draft. That still should allow a defensive player and a solid running mate for Mixon in the draft.

I expect Nick to really solidify this roster this offseason. He went and got Danielle Hunter when few thought he would come here.
