Texans vs Vikings Game Aug 9 Preseason 1

Pork, whatever is your criteria? Home cooking, High Grade Cush? Revisionist? Simmons considered elite, best tackle in class, injury only concern (sounds like Sting) sucks that KC is once again beneficiary. Conerly Jr. was late riser, but not near as late as Ersery. Ersery is a mountain of a man, but his arm length, hand size are less than either. Do like his mental make-up, maybe more, so sell me on that, make some sense.

Talented...but major injury risk. That alone was enough, but the topper was a ton of whispers about attitude. We don't need any more Tunsil's on this team. I've had my fill of the Tunsil's of the world.

Conerly...sort of a poor man's Tunsil in terms of physical ability. I heard nothing bad about work ethic or attitude, but the more I looked at him, the more info I read...I came to believe he is more of a finesse tackle. I wanted someone that had more dawg in him, and was willing to run block with some nasty. Very small sample - but Ersery did exactly that last Saturday.

I will stand on this hill - Ersery will have the best career of these 3. Simmons MAY be better if his injury risk turns out to not be a thing to worry about. But as a first rounder...too much risk. The attitude? We shall see.

Ersesry is just flat out better and a more balanced tackle than Conerly, who may work into a good tackle in time, but he needs to build strength and become a complete tackle.

I would think that your first sentence negates your second sentence. I think Ryan knows what he has in Noel and wants to find out what he has in Berrios. We need every available spot and I do not see keeping a wide receiver who is less than. Metchie and as a punt returner less than a rookie in Noel. Of course, nothing would surprise me.
No it doesn't negate anything.

The sentence I think only means we have to agree to disagree

BTW, Berrios is a pro bowl level pr.

Thanks for responding, now I know where you’re coming from. After Ersery, name a starting caliber OT in 2025 draft class? He probably was last in line of six prospects, after Banks, Campbell, Membou, Conerly Jr. Simmons and some say Donovan Jackson.

Casiro in fact realized the peril he had put Texsns OL Tackle future in bypassing Conerly & Simmons that he tried to trade up for Ersery three picks after Higgins with New England. Offered a lot but Patriots wanted TreVeon Henderson more. Did not deter Caserio, so he eventually did work out a trade up to 48th with Raiders for Ersery, giving up 2nd (58th) & late 3rd (99th).

Ersery is a Texan now, thats all that matters. Hopefully they learned from this exercise when it comes to OL prospects, whether it be Guard, Center or Tackle. Cause last years 2nd rd. Tackle Blake Fisher, first in 2nd wave of tackles in 2024 draft class looking like a bust. They passed on Rosengarten out of Washington, who Ravens drafted and became their starting RT.

Brings me to my third point, my own limitations when it comes to evaluations. I only watch certain specfic teams of interest to me. Try to avoid Notre Dame games (except this past season because they were finally relevent again) focus on Texas and don’t watch any Minnesota College football either. But did watch a lot of that 2024 Husky OL & 2025 UofO OL line play, both extremly well coached.

So this is the reason why I’m pro Conerly or pro Rosengaten, because I’ve watched their tape. Now I’m watching Ersery and i like what I see. Just have one request, let the rookie earn the starting LT position. I believe he can beat out Cam Robinson. If so, lets see Cam get back out on field @ RT before training camp is over, slide Howard back inside to RG and Texans just might have a decent OL.

Does Cam have RT experience? I think he's mostly/only been a LT.

If Cam doesn't get back by early next week, Ersery is going to nail down LT, and I personally don't think he will look back. You're looking at a 10 year LT starter. He may or may not ever be a pro-bowler, but at worst I see a solid stable quality LT, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if he makes a few pro-bowls along the way. Yes...he'll have some rookie moments and won't be perfect. I get it. But I was really impressed with his limited action last week. I'm trying to not get too far over my ski's. It's ten snaps in a preseason game, but in that very limited time, I saw things I never saw with Tunsil...so ya color me impressed with this young man.

I tend to think they leave Howard at RT and it looks like Ed Ingram is in the driver's seat at RG. The guard spots would be one to look at in the next draft/FA period, but if he can just be decent...I think we'll be ok. Juice is also battling for that job but right now...Ed looks like the man.

That would leave Cam as the backup LT, and probably Blake as backup RT. Shudder the thought. If Cam can play RT better than Blake, he could be more of a swing tackle type.

Not sure if you made a slip up or went for a slam. If the Texans had liked Conerly or Simmons, they would have taken one of them @1.25. They didn't. It's a difference of opinion from you and the teams that did select them. As far as I know, taking Higgins and Ersery was the Texans plan all along.

According to the chattering class, the Texans tried to trade up with NE. Less clear who that target was. Might have been Ersery, not sure. Just a small anecdote with all of this.

I’m willing to agree with you on Ersery in hindsight, but in my humble opinion, think their #1 target was Booker & #2 target Donovan Jackson. Conerly Jr. was my target, knowing what i knew, but in hindsight would have been Simmons to replace Tunsil.

Howard is huge upgrade over Ingram, we just haven't seen other teams find Texans weak spots, which remain inside. If Cam is unable to flip to the right side, then leave him on left an let Ersery grind @ RT next to Howard RG.

Fixed. I do mix them up.

Think Caserio pivoted his board, guys they wanted taken (to your point yes, Conerly/Simmons not on their board) so he took a good trade down package. Why did’nt he just take Ersery #34?

I checked out Ersery late in the process because he possed traits you look for in an NFL LT. But even John Harris, didn't think he was polished enough to start and mocked him to tge Ravens #59. So i didn't continue to drill down, but sure looked like a diamond in the rough.

Berrios looks like the kind of player you get on the field to jack with the defense. I'd have a dozen or so plays where he replaces a FB, HB, split TE, slot WR & see how defenses adjust.
Yeah, between Berrios and Metchie, Berrios seems to be more in the mold of Danny Amendola which might mean something for NC.

Looks like Nick hit solidly on first four selections. Repeat in 2026 and we should be looking really good.
