TEXANS VS TITANS II INJURY REPORT

HOUSTON TEXANS
Wednesday (12/23/15)
DID NOT PARTICIPATE

WR Cecil Shorts III Hamstring (in addition to the groin injury that is not officially listed........he has been dealing with hamstring issues off and on this season.......the groin and hamstring injuries are complementary/compensatory injuries)

I guess with all the talk of complimentary football he was confused and got complementary injuries.

LIMITED PARTICIPATION
QB Brian Hoyer Concussion (enough has been said)

All this concussion talk is making my head hurt.

FULL PARTICIPATION
TE Ryan Griffin Achilles (new listing from ankle last week......probably playing with words)

I didn't know the Achilles affected your ability to catch a football but maybe it does.

Only in an indirect manner, in that it affects planting the foot for acceleration, quick change of direction or even quick deceleration and stopping..............all potentially affecting getting to the ball and getting in an optimal position to catch it.

After not appearing on the Injury Report yesterday, Crick will be listed today as a "midsection injury." Can't really interpret this............maybe he stretched out and tore his abdominal muscles from eating too much.

If we get to rest week 17, I wonder if the two weeks JJ would be able to take off the cast off or do u think he needs sugery ...??? On his hand

I would be surprised if JJ did not play the rest of the season (including any playoff games) with a cast or elaborate splint. Most metacarpal fractures can be reliably treated with conservative non-surgical approach. Only ~3% will go on to require surgical treatment. As an aside thought, JJ may have had a through-the-skin K-wire repair that does not require formal open incisions but would further stabilize the fracture. Some would not refer to this as surgery, but technically it is a "closed" reduction surgical procedure with external cast fixation. This wire would not be removed before ~4 weeks, with the "protective" hand coverage still maintained.

Just one example of the use of K-wire fixation of a 1st metacarpal fracture (of the thumb):

Another example of either the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th a shaft metacarpal fracture of hand:

So Crick did or did not have a mid section injury? Is back muscular or...

He has been fairly solid this season.

Hoyer who was again LIMITED today is officially QUESTIONABLE as is Crick (although expected to play) for a "back" (I guess that part of the "midsection"........the games grownups play). A center with a bad back hopefully does not become a pushover.

JJ had a FULL participation today (remember, Friday typically a walk-through) and is PROBABLE.

On radio 610, it was reported that Hoyer was utilizing a hyperbaric chamber
and memory exercises to facilitate his concussion rehabilitation.

Slow progression of physical exercise will improve blood flow (and therefore oxygen delivery, similar to the action of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber) to the brain and promote healing......too quick increase in physical activity can worsen the condition.

Progressive memory exercises help promote improved cognition. However, again even trying to stimulate the brain with too much activity will worsen the condition. That's why players are not allowed early return to the team classroom/meetings to simply watch and listen. During concussion rehabilitation, the more you overexert yourself physically or mentally after a concussion, the more likely you are to worsen your symptoms and delay your recovery. Simply trying to write a note at the same time as watching TV can be traumatic to a recovering brain. Extensive multi-tasking (especially in context of stressful situations) such as what a QB is exposed to when he is watching for an oncoming rushing D while scanning the field and deciding what to do with the ball, etc., can potentially setback memory/concussion rehab very quickly and quite dramatically.

With all the above taken into consideration, in addition to the fact that he has had no contact practice to date......and with the high probability of at very least sustaining multiple hard hits, I would not allow Hoyer back Sunday......even if he wants to.

BJ Daniels has been less than a week and already has a chest injury. Is this the same injury Mallet had?
Isn't it just as likely, maybe more so, that he had this prior to his coming to the Texans.

Daniel's only significant past injuries (both in college) were an ankle fracture and a shoulder injury.....of his non-throwing side, which required surgery.

Most likely, he did not have this prior to signing with the Texans. Since he was not used in preseason or in PS status as a QB, he probably sustained a strain of the pectoralis muscle or a sprain of the pectoralis muscle tendon while he had to concentrate his passing skills in a very short period of time...and put undue stress on those areas which he was not geared to take until he came here and was put into action as a QB.

Peters has a chest injury that is supposedly "minor."

But James, who has been dealing with a foot injury, has evidently suffered a re-injury and has also visited Clowney's boot maker.

There is no hope for Clowney ever living up to his original expectations. The most we are going to get from him is his occasional brilliant playing, but mostly just being there and helping out like any other no name lineman. Maybe even better than average no named lineman. But he is never going to be what was expected of him.
