On radio 610, it was reported that Hoyer was utilizing a hyperbaric chamber
and memory exercises to facilitate his concussion rehabilitation.
Slow progression of physical exercise will improve blood flow (and therefore oxygen delivery, similar to the action of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber) to the brain and promote healing......too quick increase in physical activity can worsen the condition.
Progressive memory exercises help promote improved cognition. However, again even trying to stimulate the brain with too much activity will worsen the condition. That's why players are not allowed early return to the team classroom/meetings to simply watch and listen. During concussion rehabilitation, the more you overexert yourself physically or mentally after a concussion, the more likely you are to worsen your symptoms and delay your recovery. Simply trying to write a note at the same time as watching TV can be traumatic to a recovering brain. Extensive multi-tasking (especially in context of stressful situations) such as what a QB is exposed to when he is watching for an oncoming rushing D while scanning the field and deciding what to do with the ball, etc., can potentially setback memory/concussion rehab very quickly and quite dramatically.
With all the above taken into consideration, in addition to the fact that he has had no contact practice to date......and with the high probability of at very least sustaining multiple hard hits, I would not allow Hoyer back Sunday......even if he wants to.
