Texans VS Miami, and the refs…

Tyreek and Tua. Tua passed for over 300 today and Tyreek over 100 receiving yards. Whether you agree with the league in the suspension or not, the Texans haven't played at a high level all year and now they're going to be without one of their leaders on defense.

I have a bad feeling about this game against the Dolphins. This has the feeling of the Texans taking the Dolphins lightly (they have a habit of playing to the level of competition) while the Dolphins are just beginning to put things together with Tua catching fire. Last four games Tua has thrown for over 1300 yards with 11 TD's and no picks.
It's going to be a tough game until they knock Tua out of the game.

The defense will have to play within the structure of their assigned responsibilities and be physical. Miami team speed on offense is lethal so if any of their 3 headed monsters (Tyreek, Waddle, Archane) get a running start in the open we don't have anyone who will catch them.

Glad Harris came back for this week since Azeez is out. Did y'all forget? We should be fine with one person gone and then better one stepping uo
I am glad he is coming back for the stretch run, but I think Harris will be rusty and out of shape. I am expecting a dozen or so snaps. I am hoping Devon White has a good game in pass coverage. My fear with Pitre still out, we have to see too many snaps from Eric Murray or Carson. Maybe Okudah will play some more. Will be interesting to see

I have a bad feeling about every game until they give me a reason to believe this is not the same team that's been playing all season.

This is exactly how I feel. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Texans win one out of their last four and still win the division. And then we all know what happens next.

Well I have us winning Miami then losing to the Chiefs and Ravens. We finnish up with a win over the Titans.
With how this season has gone so far, they lose to the Dolphins, beat either the Chiefs or Ravens, get torn up by either the Chiefs or Ravens, and then go up big against the Titans early, turtle the rest of the game to make it close in the end.

Everything you described would not surprise me one bit. Lose to a team we "should" beat. Steal a win nobody expects us to get. Get demolished by a good team. Allow an inferior team to hang around before eeking out a win at the end.

The Texans defense will need something from Harris. Just don't think he will get a majority of the snaps. I'm sure Ryans has a package for Harris, though.
And then we all know what happens next.
The Texans go on an amazing underdog run, culminating in hoisting the Lombardi trophy in N'awlins?

Bpld prediction, Thorn.

It time for DeMeco & company to lite into the boys about playing hard discipline football.
This is our gauntlet. It starts in practice today for the next 4 weeks! I hope after the bye, rest, and all the media attention that he is laying it all out for the players. We really need it all to come together now…

He has the team playing hard. The issue is mental miscues. They all need to work on that. Coaches and players.

Find a way to get Tank Dell involved that doesn’t involve a failed jet sweep. Teach the OL how to pick up a stunt. Teach the secondary how to not completely whiff in coverage 2-3 times a game. Things like that.

Slowick needs to find a way to get the TE’s more involved along with Metchie. I believe Metchie has a big game in him before this season is completed.

You never should wish harm or injuries on any player.

Yes it’s going to be a tough game mainly because of the Texans. All season they’ve found ways to leave points on the field.

As far as your comment about Hill, he’s only had one game over 100 yards. Agatha Rams he had 16 yards, 8 yards against the Colts and 23 yards against the Titans. So he can be completely shut out.

He has not been as dominant as usual this season, but it is much more difficult to shut down Tyreek when he has an actual starting caliber QB (Tua) in the lineup.

The rest of that equation depends on how much pressure the front seven can put on Tua. Get pressure on Tua so it reduces the time Hill has to break containment.
By far the -fastest WR in the NFL catching passes from the QB with the quickest release in the league? Yeah… I’m just not going to put much faith in our DL to put pressure on them. Especially considering our secondary with Al-Shaair and Pitre out.

Gonna be a lot of jet sweeps, quick slants and screens to slow the pass rush. I want them (Fish) to throw the ball behind the line of scrimmage a couple of times and miss one. They have done that a lot this year. Throw behind the LOS. That would be a huge turnover the Texans D.

I've been consistent on what I want to happen, not because I want a guy to get injured, but if it takes a few guys to get injured to change the way the Park Ave boys think then I'm on board.

Those Hill stats were without Tua, hence my post

Not my best summary.

The Texans magic numbers is 2. Any combination of Texans wins or Colts losses that add to 2 gives DeMeco his 2nd AFC South championship in two seasons as head coach.
No matter how you slice the cake imho just win the remaining games at least til you clinch the AFC South division and maybe get some more room in the playoff picture 😉

Packers sacked Tua 5 times and hit him 6 times in their 30-17 win in GB. Texans should fire up those A/C units….but the Packers defense got to Tua. Got to hold out some hope that the Texans defense can do the same.

Texans defense leads the league in TD plays (running and passing) given up that go for more than 20 yards. Passing plays meaning 20 or more “air yards”.
Meaning the secondary has been getting smoked way too much!
To counter this point the Texans defense are also;
2nd in INTs (16)
2nd in Sacks (42)
5th in Yards per game (308.8) / 7th passing yards per game (198.8)

We seem to follow a philosophy of going for the takeaway/negative play and gambling on losing chunk yards here and there. Of course, the busted coverages stick out in the mind like a sore thumb.

What I think the real tale of the season is, is that we haven’t been able to consistently score points and extend leads on the back of those turnovers, and that has been on the OL and the effect that the pass blocking has had on CJ Stroud’s development, in particular.

If the OL starts to come together, who knows what we could achieve? But 2 years in and that seems a big ask.

Take away those big chunk plays and the D would be elite. But if ifs and buts were candy and nuts…you know the rest.

The D is a tale of two defenses all in one. Big plays…both ways. And it’s been a hallmark of the Ryans era. In this next offseason, I hope he and his d staff take a hard deep dive on those chunk plays, and come up with a game plan to reduce next year. Whether it’s scheme/play calls, or personnel upgrades they have to button those up next year. If they can…this defense could be a top 5 unit next year.

Our secondary has looked "decent" in games with questionable offenses. It will be interesting how they hold up to Miami.

Tua Tagovailoa: A run of wins would be more special than completion percentage record
By Josh Alper
Published December 12, 2024 07:00 AM

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa heads into Week 15 with the highest completion percentage in the league and one of the highest single-season completion percentages of all time.

Tagovailoa has completed 73.8 percent of his passes this season and former Saints quarterback Drew Brees is the only quarterback in NFL history with a higher percentage for a single season. Brees completed 74.4 percent of his passes in 2018 and 74.3 percent of his passes in 2019.

With four games left, there’s a chance that Tagovailoa could wind up with a higher mark than Brees managed in those seasons, but he said at a Wednesday press conference that it isn’t something that takes precedence over trying for a winning streak that could push the Dolphins into the playoffs.

“To surpass any record in the NFL, I think is an accomplishment in itself,” Tagovailoa said, via a transcript from the team.

“You’re talking about legends, Hall of Famers in the past that have played this game. You’re talking about future legends, future Hall of Famers that are playing now in this game. That would mean a lot, but I think for us, right now, just trying to keep the main goal, the main goal and to find a win this Sunday and go on a run that we’ve been talking about in that locker room as a team, that would be a little more special than any other record I would say.”

Tagovailoa completed over 80 percent of his passes against the Packers on Thanksgiving, but the Dolphins lost. He was 10 percentage points lower against the Jets last Sunday, but the Dolphins won and that’s a trade the quarterback says he’ll make every time.

If Houston wins the division early, they could essentially have multiple weeks to rest key players prior to the playoffs because we already know the 1st/2nd seeds are out of reach.
I think the #3 seed is out of reach as well. Looks like we are locked in at #4 no matter what. And we will either host the Ravens or the Chargers.

I hope it's the Chargers. The Ravens have our number and we won't move the ball for sheet. And that's even though the Ravens D this year has been pretty darn un-Ravens like. I just don't like the match-up of players or coaches for that matter.

The Chargers are very well-coached. It was a great move to bring in Harbaugh. But I still feel like they can be had. The Ravens, not so much.

Ravens have the worst passing defense in the league while the Chargers are pretty good. Chargers have the best scoring defense in the league while the Ravens are 9th worst in the league. We'll have faced the Ravens just a few short weeks prior to the playoffs and the Chargers not this year. All signs point to Ravens being the better matchup. Broncos are still in the picture also

Fat Lady hasn't sung yet. The Steelers have the Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs, and Bengals left, in that order. Steelers could easily end up 11-6. Now, is our team up to wining 3 out of the next 4 to match that record? I've seen crazier things happen. Ravens still have the Texans and Steelers on the schedule.

The 3 seed isn't completely out of the question, yet. But, yes, it is FAR away I agree. Just wanted to stir up some new conversation around here.

Keep telling you guys, don't count out the Broncos just yet. Although they have a tougher schedule than those two teams. Broncos get the Colts, Chargers, Bengals, Chiefs in that order.
Having read that out loud back to myself, Ya, we won't get the Broncos with the 4/5 game. Sorry. Just talking out loud. They may go 1-3 down the stretch.

Broncos have 2 division games there, 1 of them at home... they may very well go 3-1 also

That's what I'm saying. Texans just need to take care of its own business. Worst case scenario for the Texans if they want the 3rd seed is that have to go 3-1
