Houston Texans to get Thanksgiving game? Arian Foster & Co. in line for showcase spotBy Chris Baldwin
01.18.12 | 02:47 pm
Move over turkey. H-Town's next Thanksgiving could include sitting down to watch the Houston Texans in a national TV showcase.
A source in Detroit tells CultureMap that the Texans are "the clear favorite" to be the AFC opponent in the Detroit Lions' annual Thanksgiving Day game in Motown.
The official 2012 NFL schedule will not be released for months, but the Texans already know which teams they'll be playing and where (just not any times or dates). Detroit is one of the Texans' eight road opponents for next season.
The Texas team that's often forgotten has captured America's attention in defeat like it never has in victory.
CBS, which holds the AFC rights, is set to broadcast the Lions' Thanksgiving Day game Nov. 22. That means Detroit must play an AFC team. Which means Jim Nantz - the Houston-raised No. 1 voice of CBS - could finally get to broadcast a Texans game for sure.
Of course, Nantz could be doing more Texans games than just a Thanksgiving matchup.
As CultureMap detailed on Monday, the Texans' national profile is undergoing a huge upswing as a result of that 20-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the playoffs. The Texas team that's often forgotten has captured America's attention in defeat like it never has in victory.
I heard from a friend of mine who usually has good sources that we were playing the lions on thanksgiving. Just wondering if anyone else has heard this.
NOPE!! Haven't heard a thing...... That said Danny, if it's here, bring the "breakfast tacos" irrespective of the time of the game... Bring it, Bring it.... Bring it!!!!!!!
Let's hope Suh doesn'tMyers.
I would rather not play on Thanksgiving. I will not be able to enjoy my dinner worrying about the game.
It will just mean I get to camp out on the couch for a night or two til the wife isn't so mad at me anymore.I hope not. The family and I like to enjoy our Tgiving meal around 12 or 1230. An 11 or so kickoff means I will be working in the kitchen and then eating. So, I won't get to see the game.
I have no desire for a Thanksgiving game, or any Thursday game. We don't need the national exposure and it throws off the rhythm of the work week for the players. I don't even like Monday night games.

Count me in as one of the guys who doesn't want a Thanksgiving game.

Sorry, but the first time he tries that crap Cush will rip his head off.
This information has been floating since the beginning of the year.

Suh better be more worried about AJ since AJ will be on the field when Suh is. We should all post videos of AJ beating the F out of 'Innegan during the week before the game.Sorry, but the first time he tries that crap Cush will rip his head off.

I'm totally with you on this. Let some other team play after three days rest. I can tolerate the occasional Monday Night Football game because it's only one day diff. But Thursday games were and are a bad idea. The only thing worse is going to London to play. Stupid.
How have we done in prime time games? This concerns me...
As long as they aren't having to fly their butts to London.I must say that I am surprised at how many people would not want to see the Texans play a Thanksgiving day game...especially the BIG one at noon.
1. We always say we want more national attention. Do you not realize that the noon game is THE biggest game other than the Super Bowl? Everybody is watching it. EVERYBODY. This is where I'm at, days off be damned.
2. The argument about having three days' rest: Yeah, well...our opponent will also have been on the same three days rest too. No advantage or disadvantage there. Only if they aren't on a bye...it's happened before.
3. Thanksgiving day NFL games are usually crappy. Boring. I mean, the Lions and the Dolphins is not exactly prime football watching on a Thursday at noon. But with the Texans, it becomes infinitely more awesome for obvious reasons. Agreed, I'd love a good showdown.
Go Texans! Except on Thanksgiving....???

Dude. I didn't want to do this, but you cannot state such things on a football message board and expect no consequences.
You won't get to watch a football game? The ONE time in 11 years that your team is playing the Thanksgiving game...and you're banished to the kitchen?
News flash: You can make practically everything but the turkey a day prior to Thanksgiving day...and either refrigerate or freeze it. Then all you have to do on the big day is cook the turkey and pull out all the side dishes....eat, and watch the game. Assert your manhood.

Here is the thing. My family is spread out across the country and Thanksgiving is the one holiday when everyone gets together and spends time together. So, I will be spending my morning at the airport or grocery store picking up extra food for people we didn't expect to show.
As amazing as it is, while others enjoy football, nobody else watches it as much as me. My family are not sports fans in the slightest, so trying to watch a game with one of them would not be fun as they would constantly be moving the conversation elsewhere rather than concentrating on the game.
News flash! Texans to play Lions on Thanksgiving....IN LONDON!
A Thanksgiving game would be a lot of fun. Does anyone know the date that the complete schedules get released?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE London, but it's harder on the players with the 9+ hr. flight time each way in addition to the 6+ hr. time differential. (I'm not even going to go into the blowing my nose and BLACK stuff coming out due to the pollution there!)Sorry Dan but I would love for an excuse to go to London! Im just waiting on the day.
I don't know but I did a little google and last year the NFL announced the schedule on April 19th. I don't know if you can base that as a good barometer about this year's announcement, but we'll see.
EDIT: That was funny, Lurvinator.
I dont understand the crowd who resists a possible Thanksgiving game.
Big boy teams have to play on the big stage. They cant hide in the shadows forever and expect to earn respect.
Also to Dopp, I think this is the one year you can have someone else cook while you enjoy your favorite sports team play a big time game. And if that is not an option, DVR the first half.
