Texans vs Kubiak/Broncos...Let's Predict ;)

EllisUnit

Vote RED!!!
I predict OB shows Kubiak what a real coach looks like and how depth is properly used.

Texans 34

Broncos 17

What say you ? How do you forsee the return of Kubiak to H-town ?

BTW I loved Kubiak as a person just not a coach, and I hope that man finds success wherever he goes.

Mallett does his best Brady impersonation and dinks and dunks Wade's defense to death. JJ and Vince have a Peyton sandwich and the arm finally falls all the way off.

46-10

Game is competitive, we get after Peyton, Osweiler plays well, our QB's play well and somehow Mallett continues to beat Hoyer according to the fan base.

Tom Savage wins the day again and beats the Broncos on a 2 minute drill just like last preseason.

Texans 27
Broncos 23

I really don't know. I see an atypical game because of the "Return" of the old regime, so I caution anyone about making too much of it, good...bad...or in between.

I pretty much sucked at this last week, but what the heck.

1 - JJ Watt and Vince Wilfork do not play.
2 - The Broncos bring a ton of pressure and show the weaknesses in our OL and our OL depth.
3 - The QB competition may get decided because one or the other QB may actually die.
4 - Polk sees action in the first half instead of just the second like last week.
5 - Savage continues to impress.

I predict Wade will treat this as a Super Bowl and blitz, blitz and blitz again. He's the blitz king in preseason to begin with, so I expect more than he usually does.

It's a preseason game and I predict that by halftime I won't give a damn about the score anymore. I hope the team looks good from the 1's on down and that's about it. The score is truly meaningless here.

Broncos 30
Texans 13

Elway was upset last year seeing the Texans outwork his Broncos in joint practices, Wade will blitz over and over as that's his scheme and he needs to prep his guys, and I believe there's a revenge factor in behalf of Kubiak if not by him.

I think our A-gaps will get a workout and Mal will be on the run. It'll be ugly.

I predict we'll all be very disappointed before the day is over. Chicken Little will run rampant around here. I may be at the front of the line with him.

I think our OL is going to look horrible, which will lead to poor running & poor QB play. We're going to be reminded how thin we are at LB, both onside & out as none of them will make a play worth mentioning when the first & second team is on the field. Jj Watt will play maybe half a dozen snaps, other than those 6 snaps, we'll be sorely disappointed.

Everything we've done so far to rationalize our off season & get behind this team will be destroyed in the three hours it takes to play the game.

We have a Winnah!

Mallett looks pretty good, Hoyer looks pretty good, Savage looks pretty good, and absolutley nobody on this board changes their opinion about things by one iota, and absolutely everyone on this board is provided with ammunition on why the starting QB selection is absolutely right, or totally sucks when (if?) OB makes the announcement next week.

Manning looks shakey to just okay, but Osweiller comes in and absolutely picks our 2's and 3's apart.

Denver wins 34-24

On a related note, I'm also predicting (based on nothing more than gut feel and intuition) that the QB named as starter will be Mallett).

I'll have to take the counterpoint. Mallet will beat Kubiak's "vengeful" Phillips blitzes and hit his receivers in front of Wade's CBs which will be playing closer to centerfield than the LOS..........then maybe go for the fences when the D continues to play without or with poor adjustment......ala the classic Kubiak/Phillips stubborness.:spy:

Kubiak says Manning" will play quite a bit." Manning will supposedly be running Kubiak's bootleg plays.........I've got to see this.......especially when 3 of his four new offensive linemen have never played in an NFL regular-season game.............[=Peyton

I don't understand all the hatred. The man did his best. Wasn't good enough. We moved on... well, some of us moved on.

If, in part, you are referring to my "stubborness" to adjust comment, this is not "hate," it is a simple statement of observable fact. I have always thought that Kubiak (like Wade and Schaub) gave us all he had......but his failure to be willing to make significant adjustments when needed used to drive me crazy.

There was a Denver reporter on a radio recently that said Manning has slimmed up a bit. I'm not sure what that means, but thought I'd pass it along. I'm fairly sure Wilfork could still hang with him running a 40

Brian Hoyer has a strong performance and puts all doubts to rest on who's going to win the starting quarterback job with three Touchdown passes. Texans beat the Broncos, 34-13.

Just TK being TK. I still say it's the drinking water down there. I know because I drank it for 24 years and still haven't recovered. Eats brain cells.

Then there is this "I really don't know what I'm talking about. But I like the way it sounds" Man is honest about it.

j/k TK

Could be a long day for the defense if Wilfork takes a rest early or completely. The Broncos 3 RBs had 101 yds and 6.3 ypc in the 1st half last week.

Do I remember wrong, or is Watt not going to play in this game. If that is the case, he will probably be disappointed in not being able to give Peyton a couple of his "love hugs."

Behind Enemy Lines: The Broncos Ride In

State of the Texans asked fellow publisher the Mile High Huddle who cover the Denver Broncos to give some insight to the upcoming showdown on Saturday. There might even be some questions on some familar faces coming to town.

How have things been accepted with Gary Kubiak returning back to the Broncos?
MHH: For Broncos fans, it's been like welcoming back an old friend. And on the field, it looks like the Broncos brand of football from years back. With Kubiak, Wade Phillips and Rick Dennison all having extensive histories in Denver, it's most literally like putting the band back together.

The big concern was whether Peyton Manning could mesh with Kubiak's West Coast/Zone-blocking system and thrive playing under center. Although Manning is yet to play in the preseason, he has been phenomenal in training camp. He's dropped a little weight to be more mobile and the running game is firing on all cylinders.

The big question in Denver is the offensive line. If they go with the current starting unit in Week 1, they'll have the youngest O-line in the NFL. Ty Sambrailo has struggled immensely and as Manning's blindside protector, he's the key to everything. It will be interesting to see if Sambrailo improves this week in Houston.
Is there any issues that a good portion of the coaching staff is from a Texans team that fell flat as a team in 2013 with the Texans?
MHH: I would say no. Overall, there's a real excitement among the coaching staff. Everyone being reunited in Denver, where many of them got their start, seems to have invigorated them. Coupled with the fact that the Broncos have one of the most talented and deep rosters in the league, Kubiak and company seem to have hit the ground running.
Do you see Kubiak evolving his offense for Peyton Manning to be successful?
MHH: Absolutely. Kubiak has meshed what he likes to do with Manning's offensive preferences and as I touched on above, Manning has really taken to Kubiak's system and brand of coaching. He looks loose in his rollouts and bootlegs. His footwork from under center is immaculate, although there were some growing pains there. And his arm, according to Demaryius Thomas, is as strong as ever.

People will be surprised at Manning's production in this offense. He might not throw it 40+ times per game, but he's going to have a very high completion percentage and throw a lot of touchdowns. In particular, expect Manning and company to have the most potent vertical passing game in the NFL.
Two players (rookie, under the radar vet) that Texans fans should be on the look out for.
MHH: Shaq...

Reunion weekend for Texans, Broncos
Deepi Sidhu

The Texans host the Denver Broncos as many familiar faces return to NRG Stadium this weekend.

Coaches serving on both staffs
Houston native Gary Kubiak returns to NRG Stadium in his first season as the Broncos head coach. Kubiak, Texans head coach from 2006 to 2013, will be joined by assistants who also worked on his staff in Houston: defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, linebackers coach Reggie Herring, quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp, defensive line coach Bill Kollar, tight ends coach Brian Pariani, and assistant wide receivers coach Marc Lubick.

Texans special teams coach Bob Ligashesky faces his former team. Ligashesky served as the Broncos tight ends coach in 2010.
Former Broncos on Texans

Texans safety Rahim Moore, signed as a free agent this offseason, played for Denver from 2011-2014. Linebacker Mike Mohamed spent 2011 to 2012 with the Broncos.
Former Texans on Broncos

Several former players will be back in Broncos uniforms: tight end Owen Daniels (2006-2013), defensive end Antonio Smith (2009-2013), fullback/tight end James Casey (2009-2012), and tackle Ryan Harris (2012-2013).
The Texans host the Broncos in their second preseason game on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on KTRK ABC-13 and SportsRadio 610.

Mallett starts against Broncos. Hoyer comes off the bench. O'Brien expected to name starter early next week. They visit Saints in 3rd game.

Last time Manning played 4 team ranked among top 20 in rushing was 2006 with the Colts. Kubiak will run the ball!

In 20 seasons as HC and OC, Kubiak's teams have averaged ranking 10th in rushing. Manning hasn't played for team ranked in top 10 since 2001.
.

Texans 24, Broncos 27...middle of the road performance by the offense & a lack luster effort by the defense mainly b/c JJ and Vince won't play but like the 1st drive..Mallet dinks and dunks the offense to only 6 points in his time with the 1's missing his opportunity to seize this qb battle. Savage does what he does against the 3's and continues to impress.

Gary Kubiak returns to hometown with Broncos as new team, different approach

Gary Kubiak grew up five miles from NRG Stadium. He watched the parade for the Oilers' 'Luv Ya Blue" teams, and later worked as a ballboy for Bum Phillips in training camp.

He was Houston in every way. But life has a funny way of creating interruptions.

Kubiak returns to his offseason home Saturday, leading the Broncos against the Houston Texans. The homecoming provides a nice narrative, but lacks drama. Kubiak came back last season as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator, suffering a disappointing 25-13 loss that nearly cost Baltimore a playoff spot.

Saturday's contest matters only for evaluation, viewing quarterback Peyton Manning in an important snapshot with his inexperienced offensive line. There will be no score to remember, no score to settle.

"(Denver) is my home now. Other than my mom living about five miles from the stadium, it'll be all business. I hope that I'll get a chance to say hello to her," Kubiak said. "I am just locked in. It's a good test for us and we need to be ready to play."

Texans owner Bob McNair reluctantly fired Kubiak with three games remaining in the 2013 season. The Texans finished 2-14, the worst record at any level of Kubiak's career. In eight seasons, Kubiak helped revive the Texans, winning two AFC South titles and two playoff games. Former Houston offensive tackle Eric Winston credited Kubiak with "changing the culture."

Kubiak left with unfinished business, short of his goal of winning a Super Bowl. Kubiak exited with class, buying a full page ad in The Houston Chronicle thanking fans for their support.

"Gary treats people with respect. There's the personal and the professional," said former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman, who worked on Kubiak's staff in Houston. "He can be critical of the professional, but show concern for the person. He's sincere and honest. He's in a unique situation now. He's always had so many strong feelings for Denver. "

For Kubiak, this matchup remains meaningful as the next step in the progression of his first Broncos' team. The defense delivered an eye-opening performance against Seattle in the preseason opener with seven players registering sacks, and none from DeMarcus Ware, who will play Saturday. The first-team offense, sans Manning, scored 19-first half points, but the line sprouted leaks. Manning is expected to play a quarter to a quarter-and-half in his summer debut.

Receiver Demaryius Thomas and tight end Owen Daniels, a former Texan who makes his offseason home in Houston, will join him. This could be the opening day lineup, save for slot receiver Emmanuel Sanders who is taking a cautious approach with a hamstring injury.

"Kubiak's a good coach, so he's going to have a lot out there and get us running around the field and get us in some tough situations," Texans linebacker Brian Cushing said. "It'll be good to see him. He's a very good offensive mind, so you know, it'll be a good game plan for us to go against."

Twenty-two months after suffering a mini-stroke at NRG Stadium, Kubiak looks fit and healthy. He arrives early for work, in the darkness, and leaves late. His schemes will look familiar. So will the surroundings. But he's changed, too, shaped by his first head-coaching experience and his time with the Ravens.

"Being with a coach that did it a little differently and him just being in that coordinator role in Baltimore, I think maybe relaxed him a little bit and had him take a little bit of a different approach," Daniels said. "His last year there in Houston—it was our last year there—it was a tough season. He's still demanding the same things out of us. He is still a straight-shooter, but I think personally, he handles things a little bit differently. He's intense, but he just seems less stressed to me."

The Texans will manhandle the Broncos in all three phases of the game.
It shouldn't be that close of a game. We will punch them in the mouth!!!!

Broncos 20, Texans 17. Some of the coaching from the previous regime will still be with the Denvers. It will take a while for them to reach collapse mode.

On the visiting sideline, Peyton Manning will be making his first appearance in coach Gary Kubiak's offense.

Kubiak sat Manning in Denver's first preseason game, giving the veteran some time off, as he has done in training camp. Manning is expected to play the first quarter or the first half.

Texans fans know Kubiak's offense so well because he was their team's head coach for eight seasons.

But Texans fans also know Manning's offense - and it was Manning's offense - so well because he played against them twice a season during his first 13 years with Indianapolis.

In Kubiak's offense, the coach doesn't give the quarterback a lot of freedom at the line of scrimmage. They have predetermined options for when the quarterback has to adjust based on what the defense does.

In Manning's offense, he could make changes at the line of scrimmage, calling the audible he wanted, and no quarterback has done it better.

Kubiak uses the shotgun, but he also likes his quarterback to take snaps under center. Manning has been playing almost exclusively in the shotgun.

Manning will do both under Kubiak.

"(Manning) does a great job of getting everybody on the same page," Broncos offensive coordinator Rick Dennison told Denver reporters recently. "Being able to change the pace like you're a pitcher throwing an off-speed pitch, a fastball - two-seam or four-seam.

"Whatever you can do to get the advantage, and we'll do that on a game-to-game basis (in regular season)."

Kubiak is a proponent of the zone scheme that provides a lot of misdirection. One of his most effective plays is the bootleg.

There is a misconception that Manning can't run a bootleg, but he has been rolling out and throwing accurately on the run for years.

"I feel that I throw pretty well on the run," Manning said early in camp. "I never had as many designed roll-outs or scrambles, but I've sprinted out through the years. I actually think I throw pretty well on the run for a guy that doesn't really run well.

"Obviously, it puts the defense in a little different position, not knowing where the quarterback is going to be set up."

Kubiak insists on running the ball effectively. In his 20 years as a head coach and offensive coordinator, his teams have averaged ranking 10th in rushing.

The biggest beneficiary of having Kubiak as Denver's coach should be running back C.J. Anderson if he stays healthy. Think Arian Foster with the Texans and Justin Forsett with Baltimore last year when Kubiak was the Ravens' offensive coordinator and Forsett earned a trip to the Pro Bowl.

Manning hasn't played for a team that ranked among the top 10 in rushing since 2001 when he played his fourth season with the Colts. He hasn't been on a team that finished better than 20th in rushing since 2006 when the Colts were 16th.

The key will be keeping Manning healthy. At 39 and entering his 18th season, Manning doesn't have the same arm strength he used to have, but he showed last season he still can compile outstanding statistics.

Manning had 4,727 yards, 39 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and a 101.5 rating.

Before he suffered thigh and ankle injuries that hampered his ability to plant, push off and follow through, he threw for 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions in the first 11 games. After he was injured, he had five touchdowns and six interceptions in the last five games.

If Manning stays healthy, expect him to have another terrific season, but he may not throw close to 40 touchdown passes because Kubiak likes to run close to the goal line. But he may not throw double figure interceptions, either.

Writing off Manning at 39, as many have, would be foolish.

I have this feeling that I will know what Denver is about to do presnap. I just remember kubiak being very predictable which I believe other teams picked up on through the years. I'm guessing the vets on our team should look good against Denver.

Must be why it worked so well in Baltimore last year.

One player that would have possibly given our QBs difficulty even though he is listed as a backup will not be playing. DE Kenny Anunike, just recently (this past Thursday) had a knee scope. He has the potential of being a regular on the Injury Reports. In college, her had 4 left knee surgeries and a right ankle surgery...........just to be picked by the Broncos last year............injuring his elbow in the last preseason game.......and spending the entire 2014 season on IR.......now another knee surgery.

I'm going to watch the Bronco's neophyte center. He was less than impressive in college. He's relatively small and by all reports weak and non athletic. Another reason I believe Peyton will not feel comfortable tonight...........no QB likes a pass rush that comes up the middle.

I'm just not sure taking Peyton's brain out of the game, putting it in the trophy case and substituting Gary's adds net value.

& I'm not so sure that's the way it works. Kubiak didn't give Matt Schaub & whatever else we had a lot of freedom at the LOS. Who's to say he won't allow Peyton Manning, SGOAT (Second Greatest of All Time) more freedom. As "the" QB whisperer, I'm sure he had a grasp of what Matt Schaub could & could not handle. And while all of us who knew Schaub would never win a Super Bowl, maybe this is where Kublai draws the line.

Every play had options built in. Routes changed, checks to run, run left, or run right... that may have been the extent of Shaub's ability.

With Kubiak, it is obvious that Peyton for the first time in ages has had to play within the confines of ANY limitations. With his physical abilities diminishing with age and injuries, this wiley ole vet needs now more than ever to react instinctively and immediately to the defenses' strategies. Kubiak taking away even just one choice in his play options appears to already be enough to screw him up.

Sounds like Kubiak hate to me. I doubt Kubiak will limit Mannings options any more than he limited Elways.

From what I recall they barely snuck into the playoffs. Kubiak wasn't the HC over there. He was the OC, and the core of offensive players had already been there. Most of them any way. Overall I'd say that Kubiak did a fair job over there last year though.

None of which has anything to do with Kubiak's system being predictable and figured out. It isn't and the allegation merely displays ignorance.

The Ravens went from 25/29 pts/yds to 8/12, their best rankings in forever. And Flacco had his significantly best year.

And as you say the core of the players was the same which points to coaching.

I didn't read back through the whole thread, did anyone predict holding, false starts and a pick six? Looked like a Kubiak offense to me.

I only watched the game one time and honestly not planning to watch it again given that it's the preseason, but I'm pretty sure Manning made pre snap adjustments unlike any I've seen Schaub make. Kubiak isn't stupid; he isn't going to try to coach Manning in the same way he coached Schaub.

It would be naive (not Kubiak hate) to believe that Kubiak comes in saying that he will bring a run-oriented offense to the Broncos...........and it not empirically limit Peyton's heretofore autonomy.

[And, furthermore, my post was not even directed towards Kubiak.............it was a post directed to Peyton and my feeling that Peyton was going to have a very difficult time with losing his autonomy.]
