Texans vs Chargers: 2024 Playoff Wild Card Game thread.

Depending on his Sr. Bowl showing, I think he goes top of the 3rd. Would you trade up for him after making picks at 1-25 and 2-57?
Depending on what we did with those two pics, yes. We have to understand that he is not a 12 Personnel tight end but should fit in with our passing game if we are allowed to use him that way. He is not a blocking tight end in the traditional sense but then again he shouldn't have to be. Schultz and Stovers are not good blockers either.

Man, a Tre Harris, Donovan Jackson, Harold Fannin, Kyle Munungai draft would be awesome. Draft a CB in the 4th/5th to develop and this team is going to be really good next year. With this defense this yr they can beat anybody. CJ just has to play like he did in the 2nd half. Good news is the Chargers defense isn't a bunch of slouches.
Based on my belief that today's offensive line will be the starters in 2025, and based on the mock drafts I use most frequently,
Jahdee Barron at 25
Tre Harris round 2
Fanning round 3
Charles Grant round 4
Best RB round 6

You could certatianly do a lot worse. No way Barron makes it to 25.

Sign Noteboom in FA and the OL suddenly starts to look a lot better.

I thought the spark CJ got from the busted play he turned a corner not just in this game but in the wider view of this sophomore slump he’s kinda had.

There’s been a few times this season where he’s missed his open receiver in very similar situations on the run, and others where they have made a ‘spark’ play and then come right back and played rubbish again straight after it.

This time they capitalised on it.

The D played lights out, could easily have been 14-0 down in this game before the O took a 2nd snap. D stood them up in FG range twice in a row and then improved from there.

When this D gets on top of a QB, they can unravel, we’ve seen them do that to 2 good QBs this season now (Herbert & Allen), and some lesser ones, too. They need to do it again some more.

Mahomes and Lamar bring very different problems, Andy Reid seems to have some magic going on when it comes to man/zone reads and Pat finds the easy completion. Lamar and Henry is a nightmare running.

Hopefully Azeez and Harris being healthy allows us to deal with those threats a little better. Tough game next week either way, but a good performance to build confidence through the week.

I am more than happy to be wrong about the outcome of this game.
The CJ scramble and throw to Hutchinson not only turned this game around it saved our season.
CJ using his legs is a weapon I would love to see more in the future.
It was great to see the offense play close to how they did last season.
Neko is a grown ass man in big games.
Stingley is the talent we knew he was but wondered if his body would ever allow him to play at the level he did his freshman year in college.
Oline coach is still getting fired but it was nice to see them do a better job against the games dline's have been killing us with all season.

skeptics or not... its a fcked up situation.
we should be praying for those who lost their homes just as the nation has prayed for Houstonians in the wake of damaging storms-- I dont care how much money they have... its bad.
I dont ever wish people-- money above or below me to be without a home. Be Houston to our fellow Americans if you're able to... ideals, politics, money aside... the people in CA need help right now.
Good post and I am sorry if I seemed insensitive to their situation. My point was that I know how people are and there likely will be excuses made by some.

With that said I feel for the LA people and that their situation brings out the best in humanity much like how people came together in Houston. I read where this comedian left a post in seriousness for people to pray for the people of LA and a poster responded by saying prayer does no good. I stated that while the disaster still is consuming much of LA the prayers are for strength and perseverance through the disaster and that a time like this will bring out the best in humanity for the most part. It never ceases to amaze me how through our differences and in fighting over things like religion ,politics and money we mostly put those things aside and help one another when tragic events befall us. It always happens and it makes me proud of who we truly are! So regardless of the few people who may make excuses for the Chargers I hope and pray good comes from such a tragic situation!

Who cares . It’s all about the Texans baby. How dare you junk the excitement with praise about what he did for the Chargers.
Not junking anything. It was a great win but Harbaugh did a lot by just getting the Chargers into the playoffs and if I was a Chargers fan I would feel good about the direction my team is headed, Outside of being fair minded I am thrilled to no end with our big win in the wild card round of the playoffs! The Chargers earned a spot in the playoffs and us beating them isn't something to be marginalized or make light of. Both teams came into this game with the same goal in a new season and neither team was resting on their laurels so this was a big win for us. Still I know how good of a head coach Jim Harbaugh is and the Chargers are likely to get better in the near future. We could be down this road again in the coming years. Just the same the Texans looked like they could compete against any team in these playoffs. If they come out with the hunger and tenacity they had in this game, winning it all is not out of the realm of possibility! Thrilled to be on the winning side in the playoffs and especially in the impressive way it was done!

And Meco didn’t? Rookie head coach who led his team to a victory in his first playoff. Again nobody cares about that. It’s all about the Texans

Yea boy because that defense is superior, it's really, really good, dare I say elite ? NO it's not
quite there yet, but more than solid so Nick does need to focus on the offense.

The defense is good when the offense is trash.

The defense is elite when the offense can just be an average NFL offense that put together drives and score a couple touchdowns.

Look at our game against Detroit. First half offense is scoring and defense is elite. Then second half offense disappears and defense is good but not good enough. I am sure it happened in other games all season too.

Any defense needs the offense to do their job and put together some drives and score a couple touchdowns. It gives them rest and they will feed off that energy.

But this defense can be special.

THAT and another good CB to pair with Sting to close out the no fly zone!
Day 3 pick priority for that position. You will be hard-pressed to find a better pair of starting CBs than Stingley and Lassiter. Pitre found his home at nickel prior to injury. They need rotational depth now. It’s a great spot to be in at the position.

I’d place a higher priority to find a safety to pair with Bullock. Ward can’t be relied upon to stay healthy anymore. But even this isn’t a high priority. They find production from a league minimum guy like Eric Murray. Kudos to the coaching staff for developing this secondary and Nick/the scouts for grabbing the groceries!

Plus it helps they have an elite pass rush making pro bowl QBs play like Anthony Richardson!

I posted a “top 25 rookie list” some talking head posted. Several CBs on the list… but not the locksmith!

Maybe his PFF rating wasn’t good enough…

It's because he did what all CBs should strive for... He didn't get noticed. CBs only get noticed when getting burnt by the opposing receiver. (I suppose INTs should be in that list, but it's counter to my point :))

Listen, I dont want my qb to take unnecessary hits. But to say a qb should never have a designed run is a bit short sighted. You have to keep the defense honest.
I don't know about "designed run" unless you have Lamar Jackson. It should be an option, definitely. Anytime you can add wrinkles for defenses to worry about it's good. There was a read option look in yesterday's game where Mixon got nothing. The read was for the QB to keep the ball & Cj should have kept the ball.

Kid needs to learn how to slide before he starts taking those options on the regular though.

Yeah… I loved that he got his confidence back but he also needs to understand that teams are going to be looking to Al-Shaair him now.

As long as the front 7 play the way they did yesterday, Lassiter, Stingley, & Bullock are luxury items. We can go day 3 for depth.

But I still like the BPA approach.

CJ found his wheels yesterday. I’d like to see him slide but he was trying to hit that first down marker.

But to me, this is a big development. it’s like the first time Superman learned he could fly. Oh, wait I not only run fast and can lift locomotives in a single hand, but now I can fly. Neat!

No he’s not Lamar. That’s just silly. But it’s another quiver added to his tool chest and has now put it on film. He should run at least once or twice a game, more when it’s necessary. One more thing the D has to account for, and with a rather dull, basic offense..that matters.

I'm hoping they sign a CB like Isiah Rodgers in FA (He should come fairly cheap) and draft a S like Xavier Watts/Sonny Stiles/Hancock in rd 3 or 4.

Round 3 offers good choices for safety and corner as well as RBs and WR.

Plenty of battle red & steel blue... can barely make out the powder blue. Good job Texans fans.
Yes. There was a post with a picture of Chargers' fans in the parking lot. I was surprised because fans in San Diego are a bit ambivalent about the Chargers and thought maybe their LA fan base was more passionate about their team. However, looking around the stadium, that picture was misleading. The Texans fans did not sell their tickets and represented their team.

That Superman analogy is really good.

Not much on Hancock lately and I can't understand why. He can play corner but probably better at safety. Ohio State is just deep. Doesn't get the pub as does Jahdee Barron but considering the round could be solid for Houston.

Not interested in quibbling over this. Where did I marginalize Meco's accomplishments or overlook those of the Texans? I simply gave props to Jim Harbaugh in good sportsmanship. I am thrilled with the outcome of our playoff game but with that said we still have yet to go further in the playoffs than any other Texans team has gotten. I am sure Meco isn't interested in accolades. We have much more to accomplish and prove. Expect me to give credit to other teams where and when it is due while at the same time being hyped by any Texans win and giving them more props than their opponents! You can get the last word because this topic is not worthy of a big debate and I will have nothing more to add to it! There has been many times where we have seen eye to eye so I take no offense in regards to our differences on this topic. We simply don't see eye to eye! God bless you and take care!

Looking at CJ's post-game press conference. He mentions his slow speed and seeing on film that the Chargers didn't really pay attention to the QB running. Good job by CJ recognizing that the running game was struggling and his team needed him to step out of his comfort zone and do more. IMO, he is a slow guy with flat feet who might be underestimating his ability to run.

If he is not going to slide, I don't want him running in the regular season. However, in the playoffs, "you have to do what you have to do" and he did.

I wouldn't expect the Chargers to have much of a fanbase. They lost many of their San Diego fans, and the Rams already had roots in LA. The Chargers moving to LA is one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen in any sport.

Nope. 6-2 in the WC round for the 3:30 Saturday game. 0-1 3:30 Saturday in the Divisional round. Texans are also 0-5 in the playoffs on the road.
I couldn’t find the time slots but I thought I saw them show a graphic that we were 4-0 on the afternoon ones. Maybe I didn’t understand it.

We’ve beaten the Bills. The team we have trouble with is the Ravens, because the Texans can never find a solution for Lamar.
We also have had a hard time dealing with Derrick Henry. If we somehow get past the Chiefs I hope it is the Bills we face and not the Ravens. A lot of teams have a hard time dealing with Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson but especially our team. The Ravens are playing their best football at this time and in my opinion Lamar Jackson is the league MVP. Josh Allen is a close second but in my opinion Lamar Jackson is more valuable to his team than any other player on any other team. I will say that if we play as well as we did against the Chargers we can beat any team in the league and if we were to face the Ravens again we would play them a lot tougher than we did the last time our two teams met.

The Chargers don't per say have a whole lot of fans since moving to LA. Not saying it was not impressive in regards to the Texans fans turnout for the game last Saturday afternoon but a more supported team may have gotten more fans in Reliant Stadium.
