Being for just a 7th, I'd think that worry is almost completely negated. I saw he was likely going to be released, but giving up a 7th to keep from having to compete to sign him seems like a smart move.First words of quote, "When healthy"
Don't like the sound of that at all.
Same could be said about Tank Dell.First words of quote, "When healthy"

I imagine a contract rework is part of this, a al the Mixon dealFor 16 and 1/4 million dollars he better be really good this year
He's 28 years old, I can see another 2 or 3 years of production like the last 4 years.I imagine a contract rework is part of this, a al the Mixon deal
If heavily incentivized, I would hope so. I'm not against the guy. As of now, he's our number two wide receiver but that isn't saying muchI imagine a contract rework is part of this, a al the Mixon deal
He also has a $235k over season game incentive; not much but ..contract details

Christian Kirk | NFL Contracts & Salaries | Spotrac.com
Christian Kirk signed a 4 year, $72,000,000 contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, including $20,000,000 signing bonus, $37,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $18,000,000. In 2025, Kirk will earn a base salary of $1,255,000, a restructure bonus of $14,245,000 and a workout...www.spotrac.com
Egbuka is primarily a slot. We need to go get another X if not two and probably a y that can play all the spots such as Bech.I love it. It's very reminiscent of the Mixon trade, where Cinci was going to release Joe, and Nick offered a 7th and made the deal to guarantee we get him. It's even better that it's a 7th next year. That's like a lotto ticket at best, so like Mixon, I basically put this into the "Free Agent Signing" bin rather than the "trade" bin—technicalities aside.
And just like Mixon, I strongly suspect we'll hear about reworking/extending Kirk's contract to make it a bit more team-friendly while adding some guarantees for Kirk.
The downside risk is minimal. He's been a bit more injury-prone of late, but in his career, he is a durable guy. That's really the only risk I see. He's 28, so he's not over the hill. He's still in his prime for another 2-3 years imho.
I see him as the primary slot. Now, let's draft Egbuka or another outside receiver to complement Nico and maybe sign Hollywood Brown or another field stretcher type....and we're cooking with butane.

He's had bad luck the last couple of yrs with injuries. It's not like he tore an ACL/Achillies.First words of quote, "When healthy"

Anyone know his injury history? Is it full of soft tissue issues, or unfortunate events?
Sign Hollywood Brown and draft Thorton or TesLaa in rd 5 to develop.I love it. I bet at some point Caserio extends Kirk like he did Mixon.Interesting to note that the Jags are eating 13.5 million in dead money on Kirk. The 16.5 million in cap the Texans are now responsible for is basically nonguaranteed. I see no reason to guarantee him anything unless it is a truly remarkable team favored extension. I look at it as a one-year show me you can stay healthy. Anytime after mid season would be the time to extend him. We do not need any cap space from his contract.. yet.

Texans pick up WR Kirk
Texans get: WR Christian Kirk
Jaguars get: 2026 seventh-round pick
Texans' grade: A-
Jaguars' grade: C+
Kirk was once the poster child for (what we thought was) NFL free agency overpay. Fast-forward a few years to Tutu Atwell landing a one-year, $10 million deal with the Rams, and suddenly Kirk's scheduled $16.5 million in cash -- which was apparently too rich for the Jaguars since they were preparing to release him -- looks like kind of a bargain?
Kirk's value is depressed because of injuries -- including a collarbone injury that cut his 2024 season short -- which have limited him to 19 games over the past two seasons. But his per-route numbers are solid. Over the past two seasons, he's averaging 2.1 yards per route run and 2.4 against man, which ranks 23rd and 19th, respectively, among wide receivers with at least 500 routes run in that span. Not bad! Over the past two years combined he has a 65 open score in our receiver tracking metrics (good), though poor catch and YAC scores (29 each).
Houston had a real need at wide receiver with Stefon Diggs becoming a free agent and Tank Dell recovering from a serious knee injury that just required another surgery. Kirk played mostly in the slot in Jacksonville, but that's just fine working alongside Nico Collins (Diggs played from the slot 43% of the time last season). Meanwhile, the Jaguars must hang on to Gabe Davis and his $11.5 million in guaranteed money this season, but he's a downgrade as a WR2 behind Brian Thomas Jr.
It might seem odd to give praise to Houston, as it dealt a pick for a player who was about to be cut. But given the number of teams that need or at least could use a wide receiver, and how much cap space NFL teams have, in a couple of weeks I think we might look back at Kirk's contract as bit of a bargain that the Texans were smart to scoop up. -- Walder

Texans trade grade: Sure, why not?
Kirk can make up to $16.5 million in the final year of his contract, which is a perfectly reasonable amount for a second receiver.
After the Rams rewarded Tutu Atwell earlier in the day with a one-year, $10 million contract, it can be reasonably expected Kirk would have drawn something comparable to his original terms on the open market. And really, he may have drawn a deal with guaranteed money into the second year.
Kirk’s injuries are a concern, but he’s still in his prime. If he’s healthy, this will wind up being a solid acquisition for Houston. The Texans should still be in the receiver market after this, though.
Jaguars trade grade: It’s something…
Sure, it’s nice to recoup a pick for a player who was going to be released. It’s essentially free money.
This one comes with more risk, though, as the Texans wrestled away the AFC South from the Jaguars over the past two seasons. It’s curious for the Jaguars to send a good player to the team they’re chasing when the late-round future draft compensation won’t pay dividends for at least a couple of seasons, if at all. (Or, the pick could give the Jags an extra trade chip to move up the board next month.)
Maybe Kirk would have wound up with the Texans after his release anyway. Maybe he would have even signed for less money than he’s owed on the balance of his current deal, meaning they could have saved the cap space by holding onto their pick. And maybe the Jaguars aren’t set up to make a run at the division title in 2025 either way.
But if Kirk becomes an AFC South nemesis or even burns the Jags a few times in 2025, this one could sting in Jacksonville.
Don't discredit the "KAHN" yell in the second movieOK. But Capt. Kirk was never the same after the original series.
Last night on the radio Kirk was getting great review. If healthy he will be a dynamic slot receiver.
He's got the speed to run out and ups from the slot. He's very shifty and has really good hands. If healthy with an accurate QB like CJ can be if well protected I expect Kirk to have a big yr. Posters wont want to hear this but if Kirk and Dell are both healthy Kirk is the better player IMHO. BTW, I would still sign Elijah Moore.
We need to grab the best interior offensive lineman available in round 1..Egbuka is primarily a slot. We need to go get another X if not two and probably a y that can play all the spots such as Bech.

They were going to cut him. This way they get a future 7th round picks for $13.5MI'm happywould much rather have him than Diggs. Can't believe the Jags traded him within the division.
