Texans Trade Rumors: Lonnie Johnson Jr. Linked to Possible Deal After Preseason Talks

Houston Texans defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. is reportedly a candidate to be moved as the Nov. 2 trade deadline approaches.
The Texans received interest in Johnson before the regular season began, and while they believe he's still valuable, the franchise could look to unload him because it has three safeties for just two available spots, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Fowler adds that Johnson could play a "more prominent" role elsewhere instead of being lumped in with Eric Murray and Justin Reid. He previously reported in August that Johnson was being "heavily discussed" in trade talks. Johnson later denied the rumors in a tweet, saying, "Don't believe everything ya hear!!" (h/t KSR's Jack Pilgrim).
The 25-year-old began his career at cornerback before moving to safety in 2020. In 34 career games, the 2019 second-round pick has recorded two interceptions, 10 passes defended, 138 tackles, one tackle for a loss and three quarterback hits.
Johnson has already shown significant improvement this season, with his two career interceptions coming in 2021. Although the Kentucky product is performing well, it's no surprise Texans general manager Nick Caserio is trying to sell high.
Johnson is competing for playing time with Murray and Reid. The former signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Texans during the 2020 offseason, so he likely isn't going anywhere, while Reid is in the final year of his rookie deal and will become a free agent after the 2021 campaign.
Fowler also mentions defensive Charles Omenihu as another "player to watch" in Houston. He was inactive during Week 5 as the Texans gave Jordan Jenkins an "extended look."

I wouldn’t mind moving Lonnie. His stock probably wont be higher than it is after back to back int weeks. He makes too many boneheaded penalties that extend drives.
It's called losing interest.
Right now, I don't even have the slightest idea who are the starting 22 on the Colts, except for the old names (if they're still there).
I even thought Wentz was actually injured when TK mentioned the spread.

It's funny to me how the NFL posts "attendance" numbers for each game (via various outlets including ESPN)..............in case you didn't know, these reflect paid for tickets.................but they never post separate turnstile numbers to reflect the number of fans that are actually in attendance for the games.
The attendance numbers posted for the Texans/Patriots game were 68,450.................supposedly 95% of the 71,995 capacity. Anyone attending that game would be laughing their rears off at the gross misrepresentation.

I just don’t understand the lack of being able to catch a ball by the Texans DB’s. Their ability to drop crucial INT’s, that hit them in the hands, is just mind numbing. Remember when RB’s had issues with fumbling and coaches would make them carry a football everywhere? Texans coaches should set up JUGS throwing machines everywhere including the DB’s bedrooms and have that machine throwing balls “at them” at any given time…..even in their sleep.

I am interested in seeing Geron Christian and Charlie Heck at the tackle positions. Obviously would prefer Tunsil in there for as long as he can handle playing with his thumb injury. But I was a big fan of Christian when he was drafted. He has LT feet. Lets see if he has anything else starter caliber.
Also want to see if Heck can improve at RT with more playing time and be the rare successful late round OB pick.
But it is definitely interesting to note the Texans added another interior OL (Cole Toner) to the practice squad. This tells me if Tunsil needs surgery and the young OTs don’t cut it then Howard goes back to OT and we insert someone new at LG.
When is Lane Taylor going to be able to compete? Will it happen this season?

Toner was a 3.5 year starter out of Harvard and played RT during that span. He was a Cardinals RD5 selection in 2016. The Cardinals moved him inside to learn how to play OG, then moved him to Center and had him learn that spot during his 2016 stint. He then played 2017 with the Bengals, Patriots and Chargers. He stuck with the Chargers through 2020. Campen is familiar with Toner since he played 10 games at RG for the Chargers last season. He may be a plug-n-play lineman to take over the RG spot. Smart guy…..carried a 3.6 GPA in Government with a minor in Economics. Maybe he’ll have some of that Fitzmagic moxy.

That still says something though. Before this season that number had never been below 70,000.
I went to every game from 2002 to 2018, and there were tons of times the stadium was half empty, especailly during the 2-14 seasons. But the Texans still took pride in their sellout streak. The Christmas Day game against the Steelers was 75% Steeler fans, but consecutive sellouts dammit.
So yeah, the tickets are still being paid for, but the sellout streak is no more. And people will eventually get tired of buying those tickets, not going to the games, and not being able to get anywhere near face value trying to sell them. I mean, unless they start winning again.

In his first kicks of the year after missing the first three games of the season on injured reserve with a pulled leg muscle and not attempting any kicks other than kickoffs in a 40-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Fairbairn missed a pair of extra points and a 56-yard field goal during a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Signed to a four-year, $17.6 million contract that includes $9 million guaranteed and a $4 million base salary in 2021, the former Lou Groza Award winner from UCLA made 87.1 percent of his field goals last season (27 of 31) and 37 of 40 extra points last season.
In four NFL seasons, Fairbairn has made 105 of 125 field goals and 149 of 164 extra point.
"He's our kicker," Texans coach David Culley said. "He missed them. He’s got to make those."
Fairbairn wasn't alone in having a special teams miscue.
Texans punter Cameron Johnston, who's normally reliable, kicked a punt off of safety Terrence Brooks' helmet for zero yards. It didn't look like Johnston was backed up from the proper distance on the punt.
"Initially when the punt thing happened, I thought maybe it was penetration that got the punt blocked," Culley said. "He missed the punt, it wasn’t penetration. He actually mishit the punt and the punt went into one of our guys. So, it wasn’t a thing up front, it was something were our guys where our guys, our kicker didn’t do his job from a standpoint of being able to do those things and our punter did the same thing on the punt.
"It wasn’t our special teams not doing the right thing, we just didn’t execute, and they didn’t get the job done and he didn’t make the kicks. It has nothing to do with the distance. He missed the kick. The kick went off the inside of his foot. When you look at it closely, the kick went off the inside of his foot. He did it practice three times, and everything was perfect."
This isn't the first time this season the Texans have had breakdowns in the kicking game. Despite the presence of Pro Bowl return specialist Andre Roberts, there haven't been explosive plays.
“The big thing was we got to play better from the standpoint of our guys doing the right things, especially, first and foremost, in our return game," Culley said. "We haven’t got much out of our return game yet and that’s not just our returner. That’s just with the guys doing the right things. We’ve moved some guys in and out of there doing that. Just like we did on defense trying to find the right combination of who the right guys are on those special teams and we got to do a better job of doing that."
The Texans are 1-4 and mired in a four-game losing streak and lost to the Patriots despite rookie quarterback Davis Mills throwing three touchdown passes. Do the Texans have to play perfectly to win football games?
“I don’t think we have to be perfect, but we have to be more consistent than what we’ve been," Culley said. "When you’re 1-4 and you look back and you see why those things happen, you look back and want to say, ‘Was it the team you’re playing?’ That hasn’t been the case with us.
"It’s been us, we’ve been the enemy sometimes. A lot of those miscues that we had wasn’t because of what they did, it was what we didn’t do. We’ve got to just get better and continue to do that. We were in a ballgame that we could’ve very easily have won. They made the play in the end to win the game, and we didn’t put ourselves in a situation to do that. But I feel comfortable moving forward that we’ve just got to keep becoming more consistent and not be the enemy.”

Looks like Omenihu is going to be a healthy scratch two weeks in a row.
Well, maybe they are sitting Omenihu again because they feel some other guys needed a chance, they hadn’t played, and that's the best way to run a pro football team. Plus, he might not have a cheery disposition, and that is certainly the most important aspect of being Texans worthy.
Everyone should get a chance to play and get some fresh orange slices after the game. It's only fair.

Or there’s issues like missed assignments and taking plays off that need to be addressed. He has had the opportunity to play and hasn’t made an impact. Unlike Greenard who at least shows up sometimes when healthy enough to play.
We can only speculate. All we know is that he's doing something a guy like Roy Lopez isn't. We can blame the coach, or the player, even Easterby.
But really, there's going to be 46 guys out there that didn't have a problem doing whatever Omenihu didn't want to.

Who wouldn't wanna go to a game at Tesla Stadium? Musk could also lure free agents in by promising free Teslas if they sign with the team. Just imagine, the Texans are in a bidding war for the most coveted free agent in an offseason and Elon offers up a trip to space on one of his rockets if they'll sign? Who's gonna turn down a trip to space? This really could be the key to turning this franchise around. Maybe if we all tag him online and show him this blog we could persuade him to buy the team. Like the man or not he is certainly a winner by any definition of the term. And let him go ahead and change the nickname to the Houston Teslas.
I'd guess the biggest opponent to such an event happening would be the old man up in in North Texas who would have issues with sharing
the Texas lime lite with a bigger persona than himself.

Texans fans who thought this season was going to be anything more than the first season of a full rebuild should keep plenty of boxes of Kleenex on hand….it’s going to be a long season.
I’m hoping, Caserio has his Trade Chips before the deadline identified. Like the NFL Draft….I just hope he has his chips identified as “Trade Deadline” and “Off-Season” and makes his moves accordingly. As bad as this season is looking the Texans do have players that may return some value in regards to draft picks.

Naw I’m just going to watch them but now I’m pulling for Lamar Jackson and his team. Once the Texans get their act together, I’ll then expect them to be a better team. Hopefully God will allow me to see it.
