It's pretty stupid really. It was dumb making it seem like the Ravens are the expansion team and that the Browns franchise has been around since the 40's. Jim Brown played for the franchise that now calls itself the Baltimore Ravens, not the franchise that currently calls themselves the Cleveland Browns. No rewriting of the history is going to change that. Unfortunately, Earl Campbell played for the franchise now in Nashville. Johnny Unitas played for the franchise now in Indy. Doing something like the NFL did for the Browns isn't changing any of that.

Are there New Yorkers whining about not having the Giants and Dodgers history? They both left New York over 60 years ago. Nobody gives a rat's ass. The Oilers have been gone 23 years now. Let it go.

Ehh, the fans that bled for the franchise are still here. I think we all understand the tits are the tits. Saluting old school Houston football tradition shouldnt be big deal. So do it.

The Tits are also the Oilers. The Texans are not the Oilers. You want to put up a Houston sports museum or something, and honor the old Oilers players, I'm down with that. But the Texans don't need to be breaking out columbia blues. They are a totally different entity.

I bled for them too and want absolutely nothing to do with them. Still have great memories that no city can ever take away. Earl Campbell was and still is one of my all-time favorites ever, but the franchise he played for, their color scheme, all of it can go rot in hell.

Well I differ. The Adams Family left Houston on their own volition. Furthermore, they renamed their franchise the Tennessee Titans, not the Tennessee Oilers. That Oilers name and legacy remains in limbo but will always be associated with the city of Houston. If the Texans chose to introduce a Columbia blue throwback for the fans of Houston,, I think the response would be favorable.

I understand your disinterest. But a lot of us grew up on football with the Oilers. I dont believe some kind of salute to that fan base is wrong - even if it's the Texans doing it. I'm not demanding it from this franchise, but I would embrace their efforts to recognize it.

Of course fans would embrace it. They are who they are. Cal would be wise to have Billy Johnson bobblehead day too. Fans would eat that up.

Look, I get the nostalgia, but the Oilers are dead. And it doesn't help that the Texans have never really established any kind of identity or tradition of their own thus far. Had they won a SB, or at least been to a conference championship by now, we wouldn't be having conversations like these.

I think your wrong. If the Texans had a better history we might adore them more. But the oiler history needs a generation or 2 to die off before people stop caring.

Again, nothing wrong with acknowledging that.

So your point is erase the Oilers because their dead. Mine is to salute that fan base.

Never said anything about erase them. If Campbell, Matthews, Pastorini, Moon, Givens, son of Bum all had some celebrate the Oilers function, I'd be all into that. Wouldn't even mind if the Texans honored them at halftime of a game. The Texans just don't need to be donning their colors. They have nothing to do with Oilers other than they play them twice a year.

This is what it looks like when you replace one losing franchise with another losing franchise.

I never understood why when the Oilers moved on the Texans fan base seems incapable of moving on.

Don't think it's anything at all to pine over ... but it could also well be pretty fun as a timely one-off.

Also nice to see the youngsters (JJ, DHop) themselves wanting to pay homage to the old guard.

I can understand the Browns' nostalgia. Never understood the Oilers... though I was never a fan.

I felt the same way. Except I would have been okay with keeping the memory/image connection when the Texans first started and didnt have any years behind them to have an identity.

Now after all this time it's sad that we are still so lacking that our own players wish they could wear a throwback Jersey from a different team than to simply be under the identity of the current team

The Texans need a meaningful season, desperately.

When the Adams Family left, it was exactly that, they left.....not the Oilers. The Adams Family changed the name of their franchise as well b/c Nashville wanted nothing to do with the Oilers name....they wanted their own.

Oiler history is based in Houston not where the Adams Family moved "their" professional football franchise. If you were to ask former Oiler's where is the Oilers home, my guess the overwhelming answer would be Houston. The Adams should have lost their right to the Oilers when they decided to rename the team the Titans. The McNair's should have been given the right of first refusal to continue the Oilers name in Houston but it didn't work out that way. At least Cleveland got their name back when Modell changed their team name to the Ravens.

When my Dad retired from the military, we moved to Houston in July of 1969.....by August I was an Astros fan and by September I was an even bigger Oilers fan at the age of 8. So the Oilers have a place with their fans and if Texans ever decided to pay tribute to the Houston Oilers through a Throwback Uniform that featured the. Use of Columbia Blue in place of Steel Blue.......I think fans would really appreciate the gesture. Crank out the Luv Ya Blue theme and invite former Oilers to the game and make it something special. There's one Texan who I think would enjoy this as much as a few of us old fans....JJ Watt.

The Oilers did leave and played for 2 years in Tennessee.

The Adams Family changed the name of their franchise as well b/c Nashville wanted nothing to do with the Oilers name....they wanted their own.

They wanted one which made sense. You can move Rams, Bengals, Eagles anywhere. But some names don't travel - Oilers, 49ers, Steelers, Texans. How much sense would the Kansas City Texans (the original Texans franchise) make?

That was negotiated with the move. Adams wouldn't make the same concession. Team histories belong to the team, not the city.

That said, there is nothing stopping the Texans from celebrating Houston football players. They can make them honorary Texans, Ambassadors, whatever.

Just can't call them Oilers or put them in loser columbia Blue.
 
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Texans among teams interested in Browns RB Duke Johnson. He’d be a perfect fit for that complementary pass catching/big play back Texans seem to want to add based on predraft visits and OB’s comments about using RBs more in pass game.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports the Texans, Jets, and Eagles have all expressed interest in acquiring Duke Johnson.
The Eagles were previously linked to Johnson, along with the Cowboys. It sounds like he has a market; the Browns just have to decide to pull the trigger on a deal. Johnson didn't report for the start of OTAs on Monday and figures to stay away from the Browns until he's dealt. It's matter of when, not if, Johnson gets traded. The Eagles and Texans would both be nice landing spots for Johnson.

I find it ironic that the name Titans belonged to what is now the NY Jets and Tennessee was given permission to use it. Karma's a *****.

Javier Edwards' stat line of 26 tackles, one sack and four quarterback pressures through 10 games is modest. His impact as the nose tackle in Colorado's defensive scheme is much greater than the numbers, though. The Buffs have been giving up an average of 60 less yards on the ground to opponents this season as compared to 2017.

"I am like the secret service. You don't touch my 'backers," Edwards said when asked about his blue-collar role. "I have to be physical with the center. My goal is to establish that early so he knows he is going to need help. I have faced a lot more double teams this year. That lets Nate Landman and Rick (Gamboa) run around and do their thing."

Edwards' weight loss has been well-documented. A 395-pounder when he arrived in Boulder as a Junior College transfer in January of 2017, Edwards has shed more than 60 pounds. It has allowed him to play with more athleticism and better leverage as a senior. And it has allowed Edwards to stay on the field for longer stretches. He is averaging 41.1 snaps played per game this season, nearly 10 more than last season.

"Last year it was two or three plays and I was pretty much done. Now I can play the whole game without getting winded," Edwards said. "There is always room for improvement but overall I have gotten a lot better."

SportsBetting.ag put out NFL win totals this week, and it has the Texans’ over/under at 8½ games. Come on, this isn’t even that difficult.

Why would anyone give Bill “9-7” O’Brien an over/under of 8 ½? That’s easy money.

Based on 2018 records, the Texans have the fourth-most difficult schedule in the NFL next season. So?

We’re talking about an 11-win team that barring an injury to Deshaun Watson shouldn’t take significant steps backward.

In another sign of how little respect the Texans get from oddsmakers, due in large part to their bland popularity that doesn’t generate much of a handle compared to more popular teams, they are just 40/1 to win the Super Bowl.

That puts them behind 15 teams, and at the same number as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens, two teams that SportsBetting.ag list over/under at eight wins.

As unlikely as it is, the Texans winning the Super Bowl is much more likely than the Jaguars and Ravens winning it.
