Texans random thought of the day

apparently people on O'Brien's staff are starting to lose faith in him, a long with the players. This was taken from 610's Freddy D's post game write up

1.BoB HAS LOST HIS COACHING STAFF & TRIES TO DO TOO MUCH – SOURCE:

Following the game Sunday, someone close to the Texans staff showed me the following text: "WE ARE ******* PATHETIC AT PLAYCALLING". It appears the media and fans aren’t the only ones exasperated with the playcalling on Sundays by BoB. The person went on to say that the problem with BoB is that he’s trying to do too much, micromanages his staff and no one feels comfortable doing their job. “You’ve got five coaches with five different philosophies at this point.” They brought up the continued use of Lamar Miller on first downs and how “no one in the league is scared of Lamar Miller.” The disharmony with the staff has trickled down to the players and it was clear on Sunday after the game that no one is on the same page as to why this team – which has talent – is 0-3. The person added that the Brian Gaine-BoB dynamic isn’t the BFF-ManCrush that has been portrayed. Not that it matters, because even if he wanted to, Gaine does not have the power needed to make a move – that decision comes strictly come from the Top. Of course, this all sounds plausible, but when you compound it with what was said by the players after the game…

An old friend of the #Texans chimes in: "I'd start the fire sale with J.J. Watt ... and Whitney Mercilus, who has had a very slow start." https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-insider-notes-texans-should-start-fire-sale-bortles-breaks-bad-and-more-from-week-3/ … via @CBSSports

As I wrote in this space a week ago, the Texans look cooked. They don't have anything really going for them, they got pushed around by the reeling 0-2 Giants on Sunday, and I don't fancy their chance of beating the spunky Colts next week. By the time we get to October this could be a lost season, and if this organization is smart it will embrace it. Make like a tanking baseball team and start selling off short-term assets.

I'd start the fire sale with J.J. Watt (scouts I talk to still don't think he's right and wonder if he ever will be close to his old form again) and Whitney Mercilus, who has had a very slow start. They have the cap space to handle the hit from the deal and might as well try to pump that savings into every attempt to extend Jadeveon Clowney, which won't be easy. Watt will be 30 next year, and this team is going to need a youth movement.

In the meantime, with a broken offensive line, the decision to change the offense in the offseason looks like a mistake. Watson, coming off season-ending injury, continues to look pensive and downright lost at times, and there isn't any part of this offense the Texans can bank on right now.

"It looks like (Bill) O'Brien is forcing his offense on Watson instead of opening it up to his legs," said one long-time NFL evaluator. "He needs to back him up and operate from shotgun and not so much under center."

Something better change, because a loss next week at Indianapolis and it's light's out.

You could tell this by watching the coaches on the sideline during the game.

lol OB was supposed to come out at 11 am but still isn't out doing his presser. Maybe he is being fired or forced to use someone as OC
I hope so. Maybe clause in extension that says if you suck after 3 weeks we can fire you or force you to hire an OC. Probably not but.....

this was the next part of what he put, so im guessing its just the general Idk answers from the team

2.FIVE DIFFERENT TEXANS ON SUNDAY ON WHY THE TEXANS ARE STRUGGLING – ‘I DON’T KNOW’

I’m no John Lopez or John McClain when it comes to longevity in the sports reporting game, but I have been around long enough to know that when you hear the same thing two or three times, there’s usually something to it. But when you hear FIVE different football players, from both sides of the football ranging from rookie to accomplished future Hall of Famer – ALL SAYING THE SAME THING? You know there’s something to it. The following guys all said something to the effect of “I don’t know” when asked why this team was 0-3 or why it has no energy to start games:

JJ Watt – “I don’t know, I wish I knew” – on how to get out of the 0-3 slump.

DeAndre Hopkins - “If I was a psychic teller, I could tell you, I just do my job.”

Lamar Miller – “I don’t know” when asked why the offense starts slow

Jordan Thomas – “I really don’t know, I’m a rookie so I’m just doing what I can to help the offense.”

Angelo Blackson – “We just came out a little slow. The goal all week was to come out fast.”

For what it’s worth, Will Fuller did say that the difference between last year when the offense was clicking in Deshaun’s six starts versus why it’s stalled in the first three games this year – “finishing drives. We gotta find a way to get into the end zone.” While we all agree the Texans Red Zone percentage is putrid at this point, there’s more to this offense’s problems than simply finishing drives, getting them started would be nice. Or are we arguing semantics at that point?

I have been saying about slow start is because Bill o Brain or BOB may script the first few plays so he has had time to think about what to do. Also he has had alll off season to use his genius to come up with HIS plan on how to best utilize DW. The longer BOB thinks and gives HIS INPUT the worse it will get. He wants so bad to be clever and cute and make HIS play calling the reason they win. Hence 2 wr screens against Titan when a few yards might have meant a FG. Hence shuttle pass on 2 point conversion. He wants so much to be interviewed after the game and be praised over his clever/genius/bright/intelligent.............blah, blah, blah, play calling. Our players are too nice to say what the REAL problem is. It may cost them their job. Just think about it. BOB still here,
why????????????????????????

Aligns up with what my partner told me last week.

I know everyone is happy that JJ is back but he’s been a liability against the run. Seemed he was sack chasing and not maintaining responsibility.

Yup 'my gap be damned' approach. He gets taken out on chip blocks fairly easy too. I'm loving the nostalgia but this team is soft as hell up the middle somebody is going to have to prioritize stopping the inside run. McKinney is trash. Cunningham solid against the run completely useless against the pass. JJos hamstrings are on borrowed time. Where is Colvin? JDC Is still just going through the motions out there. They are not good at all defensively. Watts huge day aside they rarely generate a pass rush, Mercilus is MIA ... I means it's a perfect **** storm.

I think JJ is doing the only thing he can do and that's rush straight up the field. I think he's become a one trick pony.

Glad I'm not the only one seeing this. I think ESPN is one JJ Watt sack away from busting a big one. Yeah I know he needs time to get into football shape but I would still be weighing all options; especially If we're gonna suck.

Hmmm, I'd say inconsistent. He leaves a gap at times. He also does things like hit Barkley 5 yds deep at the handoff coming close to a fumble.

Inconsistent is a good word for now. Definitely something to keep an eye on. I know it's early but the defense seemingly plays better when he's not on the field. Makes no damn sense.

Green Bay just lost their starting DE for the season......cue Gaine, pickup the phone and ask what that may be willing to part with, pick wise, to send Watt back home to play for the Packers. If I were going to trade Watt, I'd do my best to let him finish his career near family and home.

This will end up being an unpopular opinion but I'll post it anyway... my fandom goes beyond wins and losses. No way in hell I trade Watt ever, for any reason (unless he request it) if anyone has earned the right to play out his career where he wants to its a three time defensive player of the year who has done more for your city than damn near any politician ever has. I don't care if he finishes his career on the sideline in a wheelchair.

Sometimes sports and athletes transcend what happens on the field.

What if he requests a trade? I bet if he found himself on a winning team in Green Bay or in Pittsburgh with his bro he wouldnt be too ruffled about it. He's going nowhere on this team. Guy deserves a chance to play meaningful games in the playoffs. O'Brien has held back this team and the players to the point that these hard decisions must be discussed. Sadly you would get fleeced in any outgoing deal since the injury concerns etc...

RAC had him playing over the center in some formations on Sunday. He was getting owned.

I saw that. He had him in a Mike role with 4 down and 6 DBs at times. Didn't work. JDC isnt being aggressive in the least bit. Last year he would demolish all attempts at run blocking to his side. No regard for well being mind you, he was like a bowling ball knocking down pins. This year he's just trying not to get hurt. I cut for him alot, I get the whole 'my future' argument, but you cant be a ***** out there. Guys who get hurt are usually not going 100% and he's gonna get caught up in the wash if he isnt more engaged.

What if you read the entire post? As I said in my original post - for any reason (unless he request it)

At this point everyone besides DW4, Nuk, and maybe WFV should be available for the right price; JJ and JDC included. If the defense is going to continually get gassed and gashed we might as well save that money. We don't owe JJ anything. He's been paid handsomely for the services he's provided. At some point we have cut bait with every player. Honestly though, I think JJ is one IR away from calling it a career. He's more than likely a HoFer today anyways.

After the way Watt played Sunday he might fetch a descent Draft pick, especially from the Packers, but you know McNair wouldn't OK that
deal because he wants Watt to finish his career here in Houston.

Yeeeesh! I was just talking about how well Dylan Cole could cover receivers with my brother yesterday. Deep doo doo. Expect TE's to have field days the rest of the year against this defense.

100% agree.

Clowney is an option.

Anyone know if we'll see Coutee this week? I'm serious when I say this, I don't know his jersey # or even what he looks like. I'm assuming gender, please don't get triggered.

With three games in the books, teams are gaining better clarity on where they stand in terms of both their strengths and weaknesses.

As we run down Week 4 of the Power Rankings, we're focusing on the latter. What's your team's most glaring early-season problem?

How we rank: Our power panel -- a group of more than 80 writers, editors and TV personalities -- evaluated how all 32 teams stack up.
THE REST OF THE STORY

Hopkins/Fuller will take turns in the slot and Smith will play outside.

When do you think Coutee will be ready to play?
I posted an article re. Coutee in the injury thread today...........and suggested a grain of salt. He has evidently suffered at least a Grade II hamstring which makes timetables pretty unpredictable.

Texans have the 8th ranked offense(total yards), but are 22nd in points scored, and 28th red zone offense

Well by the same metric that crowned us the "1st ranked defense" couple yrs ago, we legit have ourselves a "top 10 offense!"
OB can hang his hat on that..

I no longer want to see the Texans trade for Le'Veon Bell. We're going to need all of our draft picks. Although that would be a bummer to see the Steelers deal him to the Colts. The Colts, Jets and Buccaneers are the three likely destinations for him in a trade.

I heard on Stephen A. Smith's radio show today (he's a big Steelers fan) that he was told by a reliable source to expect a Bell trade by the end of this week. Even though the NFL trade deadline is still a little over a month away.

more teams are still " in contention" right now, so you have the possibility of more bidders. No team that trades for Bell can re-sign him right away he still has to play out the tag, so at best you just have him on his word that he is staying. So teams could be viewing it more as a 1 year rental than long term investment
