Random thought of the day - DJ Reader is far away the best Texans ROTY.![]()

...well except for Godsey who he kicked to the curb.HOUSTON -- Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel's contract expires Jan. 24, a source told ESPN's Adam Caplan.
According to Caplan, the Texans have not yet started negotiating a new deal with Crennel. On Monday, head coach Bill O'Brien said he wants his defensive coordinator to return next season.
"I think that Romeo has done a great job," O'Brien said. "I know that we would love to have him back. I know that. But I haven't even sat down with any of the coaches yet or anything like that.
Everyone is taking a week off. OB said that they may get back to work next week.Link
According to that story the job of retaining coaches falls to O'Brien.
...well except for Godsey who he kicked to the curb.
And unless someone offers RAC a head coaching job, why would he walk away from what he's built here to start over as DC someplace else?
Of course, having said that, O'Brien and Smith really need to get busy.
They have been working almost continuously since training camp. Don't you think they deserve a week or two off time with their families?I wonder if they are taking their time with Romeo to try to see if they can work Vrabel into an assistant DC position or give it to him outright. That way in two years when OBs contract is up he can step into the HC position.

OK, so....indications are they are not taking their time. They are taking a short vacation before getting back to work.I didn't say they didn't did I?

Hence my "they really need to get busy" statement.O'Brien has stated that he wants Crennel to stay, but only Smith/McNair can put together and offer a contract.

Now, if they would move forward this quickly with news on the QB situation and Oz. But I guess June 1st is the soonest. So much for that short vacation huh?
I surprised myself by being right.

Watching the steelers-pats game. Simms made a atatement like....steelers play for championships not to just get into the playoffs.
Sadly ,the Texans came to my mind![]()
... and the Steelers will be watching the SB from their couches just like the Texans...
patrick @PatDSta
Bill O'Brien was just on @SiriusXMNFL at the Senior Bowl. RACs deal is a 2-year deal to be the #Texans assistant head coach.
O'B mention that they wanted to keep RAC inside the building. Will help OB and have a hand in the defense but Vrabel to run the defense.
He's going to be paid by someone...

I don't understand what we are trying to say, I didn't see any Texans say woo we won the division and break into a rousing verse of "We are the champions, my friends..."
Every team plays for Super Bowls, with varying levels of success. With as many problems as the team actually has do we really have to go looking for more?
You see that with fans, undoubtedly. There are a group of fans here that consistently tout our ability to win the AFC South as a crowning achievement.
You've been around long enough, it's surprising you don't see what is being said here. @JB, @dream_team, two who liked your post, and @Fred are among those.

When I play the lotto, I want to win the $10mil dollar jackpot. If I don't win it all, but come close and still win $1mil... yes, I'm going to be happy.
I'm happy the Texans won the division, I'd be 100x more happier if they won the Super Bowl.
I don't get why I'm not allowed to celebrate a division championship?
Now I can understand this sentiment towards McNair, Rick, BOB, or even the players. I can understand not wanting to see them too happy about a division championship, because you want to see them hungrier for more.positive thinkers aren't allowed around here

But me? I'm just a mere fan with zero control over the success of the team. Me being happy or disappointed will not effect the team one bit!

In the 3 seasons since 2013, the Texans have 3 winning seasons and 2 division titles, with some of the worst QB play in history. The Falcons have 1 winning season and 1 division title with a top tier QB. No doubt the Texans are laughing stock of the league and the worst team in history because they have only won the division 4 times in the last 6 years. You should root for a team more appropriate for you. I suggest the Browns, Jaguars, or 49ers. The Falcons wouldn't be good because they played over 40 years before they ever had 2 winning seasons in a row so you would have given up on them way before then.
Winning a division is an achievement because it gets you into the playoffs, but division championships are not equal in achievement. This isn't a foreign argument around here.
For instance:
This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. The AFC South is not the NFC South.
This argument is used frequently when discussing Rick Smith and/or when comparing the Texans to the top teams in the league. You can be happy that the Texans won the division, but when it's consistently used alone as the example of how the Texans are on the right track, it's not accurate. Winning the AFC South over the past 4 years has been the easiest division championship to attain.
One of the things you immediately see is how pressure helps DBs. Unfortunately, one of the things that isn't included in those ratings is penalties and timing of penalties. Bouye was good on shorter routes. Much like KJ, he can handle plays in front of him. But when plays go beyond 10 yards, he grabs and commits fouls. He was amongst the tops in the league in committing PI and defensive holding.
If you are going to grade a CB, you have to include penalties or your rating system is deeply flawed.
I don't pay for PFF so I don't know how they rate these players. Can you share their grading scheme?
For the season, Bouye has been thrown at 32 times, allowing 17 of them to be caught (53.1 percent), and has yet to allow a touchdown. He hasn’t notched an interception yet this season, but job No. 1 of a cornerback is to prevent the catch, and anything above that is a bonus.
QBs targeting Bouye this season have a passer rating of 64.2, more than 20 points below average, and he has six pass breakups to his name.
This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. The AFC South is not the NFC South.
Couple/three seasons ago the NFC South and AFC West were the weakest divisions in football. Go Back a few years further and the AFC South was the strongest
I get the jist of what you are saying.. but don't the Patriots play in a pretty weak division every year? If you are in a weak division you should dominate it, which over the past couple of seasons the Texans have. Doesn't make them Super Bowl contenders (well actually it does as you HAVE to win the division or wild card to have a SB chance).... I get it we play in a weak division, but division strength tends to change over time or even during the year, Titans and Colts beat playoff teams this year.
