Texans random thought of the day

With Bryce Young being signed, there should be no reason for Stroud not signing very soon, unless the Texans believe that the offset language is unreasonable. From what I have been told, Caserio feels that Mulugheta's offsets at this time are not reasonable, that he is not willing to meet the demands. Hopefully the impasse will not affect TC.

If CJ holds out it will be a SteelB fulfilled prophecy. It could be the reason that Mills is the game 1 starting QB. Not a good way to begin a career!

Mulugheta's offsets?

I was under the seemingly unanimous impression that the offset language was applied by the team rather than the player/agent.

Mulugheta's offsets?
Someone will have to explain to me why offset language would apply to CJ Stroud. He's not getting waived over the life of the contract. If traded, the team that trades for Stroud picks up the contract.

The only holdup possible is how the signing bonus is paid out. And as be seen in the past few drafts, top QBs get their entire signing bonus upfront. Unless the Texans are trying to turn back the clock on that, that shouldn't keep Stroud from signing before camp.

Instead, every NFL draft slot now comes with an allotted value. Rookies and their agents can still negotiate conditions like scheduled signing bonus payments or offset language, but most rookie contracts are set in stone.

So, what's the issue with the Stroud contract?

probably the guaranteed signing bonus payment (lump sum or payments)....unfortunately for the entire nfl the dumbarse jags payed it all in full up front to their picks last year and now EVERYONE wants it that way. Seems they have now set the precedent and players will want that from now on going forward.
Exactly and he’s not a David Mulugheta client like some trying to make it out to be. One member said DM is trying to stick it to the Texans. Lol

Here’s what Lawrence got.

Why are the Jags dumb (in this instance)? Why make a big deal out of a bonus you have to pay at some point, anyway? Is a contentious negotiation over something this trivial going to be the first interaction of a business relationship? Seems like a smart move by the Jags. The Texans need to be smart, as well.

B/c when you have a draft class to sign, as well as vets that you have to extend or resign, and your still in the middle of signing FA's...you would like that cash available to you for negotiations....when you give all your cash away in a lump sum and leaves you to negotiate other contracts by guaranteeing less and trying to work contracts that will attract or please clients...well Im pretty sure its self explanatory.

Joe Burrow did it too. He got his signing bonus guaranteed within 15 days.

I don’t know if he set the trend but it is definitely a trend.

My question is if by paying the signing bonus all up front how does that affect the cap today and the years to come? Do the Texans have space in the salary cap?

There's nothing better than to be lectured by someone that doesn't have a clue.

enlighten us all then since you seem to think you know the Texans business
Most people here understand how bonuses are spread out against the salary cap over the number of years of the contract. You don't. Most people here understand that while $24 million in cash is a lot of money to most, it's not a big deal to NFL teams. You don't. Most people here understand that the free agency period is over, and anyone signed hence forth are called street free agents that do not required large signing bonuses. You don't.

I didn't take you to raise on how the NFL manages their money, and I doubt you'd appreciate it if I did.

Hope the Texans stomp a mudhole in their arses for rubbing this in the faces of Houston fans. This has to be a game where the coaching staff has no remorse for running up the score if it's there for the taking. Duck the Adams Family!!!
Have the Titans said they will wear the Oliers uni vs the Texans?

As I mentioned when I first arrived here, growing up in Columbus, I just never grew attached to any NFL team. Most Buckeye fans also are fans of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Dallas, etc. They already have a team. For whatever reason, with CJ going to Houston, I've become a fan. I'm PUMPED to get the season started!
Shout out to my dad! Mom says bring home milk for my cereal 😋.

I approve several new members a week. Maybe they're lurking, or maybe just getting to know the place before posting, or, maybe they see the stupid redundant arguments over and over ad nauseam and lose interest in posting.

Hopefully, actual football being played changes that trend. Right now this place is as bad a an episode of the crappy show my wife and daughter watch, Dance Moms.

No, it takes a special kind of person to come to a message board for a consistently crappy team.

Folks will be more interested in talking about the Texans when they are actually interesting to talk about. And ultimately that requires consistently winning.
I go with option 3 and that's my final answer.

Tunsil excels against blitz which should help Stroud's 'weakness'. LT cannot help him with S2...

Yes, only if they feel the player is capable of being a franchise QB.
When I talk about "They" however, I'm talking about the front office, coaches, scouts, etc.
If they don't agree about a player, then I am sure there is a process of how they achieve consensus.
I'm not really concerned about the fans. We are wrong more times than not give or take...
It's not like Stroud didn't have 1st and 2nd rd draft picks blocking for him at OT at OSU.

Yes there's a process, Hannah goes to Janice and tells her that she wants to draft Stroud and that the football people are against this. Janice sides with Hannah and the rest is history.

History has been quite clear, with the exception of one or two outliers, the 2nd QB drafted in the top 10 has been a major disappointment.

So let's have a throwback uniform to honor the Super Bowl winning Washington Redskins!
This season I will be wearing my throw back uniform of the minute I was born. I nicknamed it 'cool buns'. The folks I watch game with say they will refuse to let me in.

Guess they forgot they gave me code to security system.

For My entrance song I'm going with: Can't touch this.

Going to try for a cartwheel but their Yorkie is exciteable.

So I guess you're saying you would have preferred moving up and taking Bryce Young? Noted.

Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Donavan McNabb, Jake Plummer, Neil Lomax, Phil Simms, Bob Griese, Joe Namath...all 2nd QBs taken. All outliers. Also, QBs that won Super Bowls like Jeff Hostetler, Trent Dilfer, and Jim McMahon. Which makes them franchise QBs in some people's evaluations.
