Texans random thought of the day

Prosch hasn't turned out the way we needed - turn him loose and draft Freddie Stevenson out of Fl. St. - 6'1" 244. Blocks for Dalvin Cook and averaged 6 per earlier this year.

I think Prosch played well our last two games. it's taken awhile but looks like the coaches finally trust him to be on the field. if not 50% I think he was real close to being in on 50% of the plays.

After consecutive seasons of 1,210 and 1,521 yards, catching passes from 7 different QBs, DeAndre Hopkins is on pace for 856 this season.

Had just one more thought to add to the "no kneel" plays................Miller was injured coming into the game and was admittedly getting worse with each hit. Why, if the decision was made not to kneel, wasn't Blue or someone else put in there to take the unnecessary trauma?

Exactly! We could have QB sneaked it. What's the worst that happens? Savage starts next game? :stirpot:

Interesting stat:

WR catch rate = 52%, 11.0 YPC, 5 TD's, 56% of targets
TE catch rate = 68%, 9.2 YPC, 5 TD's, 29% of targets
RB catch rate = 69%, 5.5 YPC, 1 TD, 15% of targets

Captain Checkdown is actually pretty successful in that role.

I honestly think OB doesn't know what he's doing sometimes. The same reason why he ran JJ Watt out there on offense during last year's playoff game.

But we're 6-3 and he's not going anywhere.

Gotta love Big Vince. All heart...all "325 lbs" of heart. Hahaha. There's an interview and a video of Vince helping an 85 yo Veteran get to his car. I think I have something in my eye...

Derek Carr Apparently Has Amnesia About the Houston Texans
Yesterday at 2:08 PM

Derek Carr has said all week he never met with the Houston Texans leading up to the draft. He must have forgotten what he said in 2014.

When Derek Carr spoke on having never met with the Houston Texans prior to the 2014 draft, it infuriated most fans that he was passed up in 2014 when the team was clearly looking for a quarterback. With Derek Carr putting up MVP type numbers for one of the best teams currently in the NFL, Carr has continued over the past two days to say he never met with the Texans.

Some highlighted quotes from Carr this week.

To Houston media,
“No, definitely not. They didn’t say one word to me or talk to me so I didn’t think I was going to go there at all.”

To Houston media, again.

“I didn’t think so. They didn’t even talk to me one time. So, I really didn’t think so. I would have loved to play for Mr. (Robert C.) McNair, and I say that just with respect. I’m just trying to give a compliment to Mr. McNair. I love him. The city was great to myself and my family. We have nothing but respect for respect for that city and I have nothing but respect for Mr. McNair.”

Then to Oakland media.

“Well, they never talked to me. I never talked one word to a Houston scout, GM, coach, anything. I’m just happy to be here, I can tell you that. But, I do think the world of [Texans Owner] Mr. [Bob] McNair. I think that he’s first-class.”

What is not discussed is what happened when he was prepping for a job interview at Lucas Oil Stadium. In 2014, the then draft hopeful from Fresno State, Carr, talked with Texans Radio and Marc Vandermeer on SportsRadio 610 at the NFL Combine.

Here was the exchange. (February of 2014, read more here)

“There has been conversations with Houston. It went great, everything has gone good. The good thing about this week so far for myself is that there’s a lot of, not attention, but a lot of good evaluations, good reports coming back. And people saying a lot of things that would probably shock some people.”

There were conversations in 2014 and now those seem to no longer exist in 2016. It might not be too tough to read between the lines but Carr for some reason forgot, according to himself, that the Texans did indeed talk to him at the NFL Combine.

Either way, it is odd that Carr doesn’t remember a conversation with the Texans which makes this mystery on why the Texans truly passed on him still more intriguing.

Houston Texans

This one's for the entire league -- a new way to measure first downs.

In the Texans' loss to the Raiders on Monday night, there were two questionable spots/measurements that went against Houston in the fourth quarter. Both appeared to be first downs, and even though the Texans challenged the fourth-down play, the call stood. After the game, coach Bill O'Brien said, "We've got all these cameras. We can't get that right?" Perhaps a chip in the football could help the NFL get some of those calls right. Those calls were made in a tied game in the fourth quarter, and had the Texans won, they would have been 7-3 with playoff tiebreakers against the Raiders and Chiefs. -- Sarah Barshop

I watched the game. If "my coach" can only ***** like that I wouldn't be confident letting him call my cable company, let alone defending the players I hope to see win.

Vegas doesn't like us for some reason. Dogs against the Jags was a bigger slap in the face IMO.

"Vegas" has nothing to do with it. It's all about which side of the equation the money lands on. If you think this is a bad line, bet on the Texans, and the line will shift.

Both true. If Vegas messes up the line will change for or against as the week goes on. Vegas doesn't like to mess up, that why the line changes. But for Houston, at home, to be underdogs vs the Chargers is a slap in the face to the Texans.

Frankly, we deserve little respect, and I think it's sad after the hope we had.

I don't even think it's reflective of any respect or lack of respect. It's only reflective of how much money people are willing to put on a certain outcome. Usually, it's going to be close to what reality is, but it's not necessarily reflective of reality. It's only reflective of the perception of that reality by the betting public. If you're not one who bets on these games, your opinion doesn't matter.

I would say we agree in general. Houston get little respect, and can I blame them?? Not really.

Many Texans fans seem to be down on BOB for challenging or not challenging plays. But before castrating O'Brien, I believe it's important to note that in fact it is the Texans representative high up in the booth, who typically has a good view of the field and full immediate access to replays from all the different angles that all of the cameras offer......... and who by headphone instructs the HC as to what call he should make.

The BoB is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down when on defense: he leadeth me beside the still waters of the offense.

He restoreth my apathy: he leadeth me in the paths of alcohol and drugs for his team’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of mediocrity, I will fear no playoff hopes: for thou art with me; thy inadequacy and thy staff they bore me.

Thou preparest a dumpster fire before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with interceptions; my insanity runneth over.

Surely bad free agents and draft picks shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the stupefying football ridiculousness for ever.

I really couldn't care less. We just need to start winning. & I don't care what Osweiler's stats are. He just needs to start playing well enough to get us to the playoffs & win in the playoffs.

My head isn't burried in the sand. I know... he sux. But my point is, I don't care about his stats if he's making plays that lead to wins. Alex Smith had a QBR of 53 last night & still beat the Broncos even though their QB had an 84 QBR (three touchdowns no INTs).

Picking out an individual game where stranger things can happen is one thing, like winning a game with 45 yards total offense when the opponent has over 400, etc.

99 yards passing and still win, 450 yards passing and lose. It happens all the time. But over the long haul, the kind of numbers Os is putting up are directly related to the team's performance. I mean come on, you know how hard it is to not score 30 points against the Chargers?

I agree with you that if they win I don't care what the stats are. But you're asking the Texans D to damn near pitch a shut out every game, score defensive TDs, ST returns, and the rest of the team just isn't THAT good, as in good enough to ALWAYS have to cover the deficiencies at QB.

Don't care about Brock's stats if they win, fine. But it's his stats that are a main reason they struggle like they do.

I do not care about the stats either but in the grand scheme of things those stats gives us a great indicator of what we are dealing with. And right now like I said weeks ago that those type of numbers will not get us to where we all predicted way before the season started. You know from the other sports blog and on this one, I was extremely excited about the Brock signing. I've backed him up just like you are doing as we speak. But sometimes we have to call it just the way it is. And unfortunately it doesn't look good for our Texans franchise. Thunder that is the bottom line. I'm sorry but again I do not see any improvement week in and week out. He's actually playing worse. The good thing at first was we were winning in spite of Brock and his many flaws.

You used Alex as an example but that is not a fair assessment because he is not having games like that on a week to week basis. He is not routinely making the mistakes that our QB is making week in and week out. Shoots even Russell Wilson had a horrendous game on yesterday. It happens to them all but not consistently though. That is my biggest issue with Brock.

This is my point to the T. Well said Speedy

Some cheerleaders here simply refuse to acknowledge this incredibly obvious point. I don't know what the reason is, personal affiliation to Brock, professional affiliation to the team?

I am not anti Osweiler. I think he does what needs to be done leading up to game time. The problem is he more often than not fails to deliver and hurts the team with his decision making and lack of skill. I guess the only hope at this point is that the front office gives him a full unfettered opportunity to show them they made a huge mistake.

First, I'm not "backing him up" neither am I supporting him. I said he sux (it's after Thanksgiving... I've waited long enough.

But we've won before with sucky QB. Even before Brock. It's not easy, but we can do it. We need to do it.

Every game I watched this weekend I'm seeing plays being made by people other than the QB. Whether it's the RB, the LG, the WR, the TE... the DE, the safety, the CBs & we're not seeing that on our team.

Everyone here is crying because the QB didn't make a play... we didn't get one sack last game & only one the week before. Our DBs drop balls, our receivers don't get open & the running game was shut down Sunday.

That's got to change. Teams win & right now, our team isn't playing well enough to win.

Again, let's not blame the QB for everything. If you watched last night's game you would have seen a bunch of throws Aaron Rodgers should not have made, several that were off target. But his receivers adjusted, made plays, made people miss... Devante Adams caught a ball that went through the defenders hands... it was just unreal & it always is how many times I see a team "make plays" where we don't see it in Houston.

QB is a problem. A big problem. But the rest of the team needs to make plays as well.

I don't care a bout Brock Osweiler. He sucks.... I still want to win.

The rest of the team have made plenty of plays thus the reason why we 6-3 before this 2 game skid.

Yes Brock is not the only issue and I've expressed that from day one. The play calling has been atrocious since game two. We completely stopped attacking vertical after week 2. I've also said, " every time our offense scores, the defense allows the opposing team to answer with a score of their own. So this notion that everybody is piling on Brock is false.

Who doesn't want to win. We all wanted this team to be successful. Especially since the Superbowl will be held in our own backyard.

And we all care about Brock because he's a Texan. We all got caught up with his leadership hype. So if that leadership would've manifest itself on the gridiron, the majority of us would not be complaining on this great board right now.

I'm talking about the last two games. We got what, one turnover, one sack? Our special teams may be the best part of the team the last two weeks.

Run game was shut down. We know Brock can't win a game for us. He needs someone to break wide the f'ck open like Emmanuel Sanders, Devonte Adams, Odell Beckham,

Not enough plays over the last two weeks for us to overcome an inconsistent QB.

I don't disagree with anything that you've said but I would add that players also need a better game plan allowing them the opportunities to make more plays. We're a better team when we open up our passing game a la the Raiders game plan. It's beyond me what BoB doesn't understand about that.

Why do we need an inconsistent QB that also takes away cap space for improvement in other areas?

The game against the Raiders our team made plays. But unfortunately we were robbed in that game.

In this last game he missed two receivers who were wide open. And Fuller suppose to be our Saunders.

The running games has hit over 100 yards in the past 5 games before then though.

Brock has won one game for us. But he's the quarterback so he will eat up most of the blame. And so will the coach. Rightfully so might I add.

If FO is still clinging to any hope of having our team in the playoffs, they need to start Savage.
It will take teams a week or three to work him out and he just can not be worse than an out of form Brock.
Might just be the tonic Osweiler needs to take some pressure off and also make him take a good long look at himself - just in case he thinks the job is his regardless.
Might just give the rest of the team a shot in the arm too.
Can't hurt now can it?!
