Texans random thought of the day

2021 Building Block 1 / Go Texans
Exactly

I also want to add that the 2022 draft appears to have a bunch of edge rushers and CB's in it that are far superior to the 2021 class.
The Texans have their full compliment of picks plus the picks that the trade of Watson should add and strong defensive draft. 2022 would be one heck of a way to improve the defense on the quick.

I was on the let’s trade Tunsil bandwagon for a while not to long ago. I’ve finally had time to put some thought into this and changed direction b/c Mills will get his shot under center late this season (preferably not) or in 2022 and for this reason I would like a bonafide NFL LT manning his blindside during this process. I want Mills to have the best opportunity to succeed since that could really help come the 2022 and 2023 drafts.

I believe Heck could eventually become a starting LT.
What has Heck done to make you believe that? He hasn't even shown the ability to be a reliable swing tackle, at this point. I haven't given up on the guy, after one year under O'Brien and Devlin. As far as I'm concerned, 2020 was a wasted year, and the Texans have an extra rookie class from the 2020 draft. Everyone is in prove it mode.

Your memory of my opinions regarding Boselli are accurate. But that does not contradict my statement you quoted........."when Boselli failed to ever work out." If I didn't know better, I would say that you are looking for disagreement where there should be none.
No you said that if I wanted to trade laremy tunsil that I was forgetting what it was like to not have a legitimate tackle such as the two you mentioned. I do recognize that we need legitimate left tackle yet trading Tunsil does not rule out replacing him with a tackle.

Also to clarify to others I don't expect to replace him with a 2 time pro-bowler.

Yes Everyone is in a prove it mode on the roster however Charlie heck has done more on the NFL field than has Davis Mills and some think he will start by midseason.

I have stated I totally agree if Mills is going to be the future starter we should keep laremy tunsil. My hesitation is from not knowing if Mills will be the guy as we have almost zero information on him at this point. That should clarify as the preseason begins.

I don’t think he will be.
If Watson is guilty I hope he is placed in prison for the 2021 season minimum. As I do think some sort of compensation to the Texans is reasonable I would like to see his cap space for this year be erased.

After serving his sentence, I want as much as possible in any trade.

Watson most likely will not end up in prison. Even if he is found guilty I doubt the punishment fits the crime. He will lose a quite a bit of money but outside of that I doubt he is ever locked up!

Really? The 2021 season starts in, what, 8 weeks? Criminal charges haven't even been filed.

What I'd like to see is for Watson to show up for training camp.

There won’t be any criminal charges, this has been brought to light by a bunch of Instagram escorts and they are looking for a payday.

Agreed,

Absolutely nothing, he looked good in the 1 game he played in.

Hopefully everybody on the roster is in prove it mode. 2021 should be a yr of culling.

9 cases are criminal but you don’t see him going down for this. Burress shot himself in the foot at a club. Down he went. Mike Vick went down for some dogs. But a man can sexually assault and force himself on these women and you don’t think he’s going down for this. Just shows how F’d up our judicial system is as well as the mentality of a lot of people. What if that was you daughter or sister? How would you feel?

This has nothing to do with how I feel or what I think of the man but everything to do with entire situation and I feel he will not be charged for what these allegations are.

I, too, think there is a distinct possibility that there is insufficient evidence for charges. Particularly if each case must stand alone. I have the Cosby reversal in mind.

Uh..you sort of bypassed a little old something called trial and conviction didn't you? Watson has received neither.

I will not disagree that system could be better but those of you who skip or ignore parts of the system like say an arrest on charges filed really concern me.

You have your opinion on his guilt others disagree and some as myself want to see the actual evidence and let the system perfect or not do its thing.

If you do not agree with any system, change it.

Just having criminal charge(s) against you does not make one guilty.
The more charges and evidence I have seen gives me pause yet Watson has the constitutional right to be innocent until proven guilty. I am as concerned about your willingness to ignore that as I am concerned that each woman gets her chance in court or through settlement. They get the right for me if not others to not decide their truthfulness/agenda as Watson has right for me to not decide his.

5. DESHAUN WATSON, HOUSTON TEXANS
Surrounded by the league’s second-least efficient running game and second-least efficient overall defense last season, Watson was arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. Couple that with the Texans trading away his top-five receiver and firing his head coach, and Watson clearly put the team on his back.

The most impressive thing about his 2020 campaign was how rarely he made mistakes in structure and how consistently he created positive plays out of structure. He played well from a clean pocket and under pressure while also taking care of the football. Watson had 42 big-time throws to only 14 turnover-worthy plays after making 27 turnover-worthy plays in 2019.

"Best QB in the NFL" & "put the team on his back" ! Ok that's no faint praise from this NFL athority.
That's for sure the definition for a franchise QB, and it's why even though DW4 never plays another down for the Texans he's sill far and away the MVP on the Texans' roster.

I’m guessing the NFL doesn’t owe the Texans anything in a situation like this unless Goodell makes some type of decision extraordinary to the circumstances that impairs the Texans in some manner.

Last year was a weird year. He had an outstanding year but four wins hardly speaks of putting a team on his back. Also it’s hard to have an efficient running game when you have the fewest rushing attempts in the NFL. Why exactly was that? One man shows don’t speak of inspired team effort. Could be explained by the coaching and talent level. But also it just might be an atmosphere created by what we now know as a selfish, obsessive and oddball DW.

Yeah the dude is very gifted and talented. Unfortunately humbleness went completely out the door once he signed that contract. Now he’s a glorified diva who is not a leader and he’s a bonified quitter.

Yes a MVP of a poorly coached team and a bad one for sure. Why was this brought up is perplexing in itself.

agree to all but still I’m wondering. There just seemed to be a cloud over that team. Take the OL for example. Poorly coached seems obvious but how good can they look consistently when they are constantly backpedaling to sustain their blocks? They had some talent on that OL. That forms a mentality that is non-aggressive. compare that to this new coaching staff that says they ARE going to run the football which helps the passing game (more shorter routes, crossing patterns, better use of the TE’s, play action, etc).when did the OL last year EVER come together as a group and applaud an attitude to have the fewest rushing attempts in the NFL? As a group this new OL are tight and want to be aggressive and drive block rather than constantly backpedaling and getting head slapped. Last year DW ran the show alone and I’m just wondering how much of that came from him and not other circumstances? Not sure Kelly wasn’t being manipulated and was forced to design the O to DW’s desires. if so hardly team player stuff.

I agree however it would be a strong statement to the players union about its players trying to force the owners to do anything. Quite a few NFL owners have had players in the last few years forcing team trades at the detriment usually of the team.

I thought it was pretty much established that last year's offense was Bill's?

Was it really however. OB believed in running the football even to the chagrin of this boards posters. Besides he was toast after four games. Something changed and DW was singing Kelly’s (DW’s?) praises. The run game was virtually abandoned.

Kelly still ran a lot of Bill O’Briens playbook. The running attempts went down but they still ran a lot of those plays up the middle. Or at the wrong time in the game, which were head scratchers.

Running attempts went down to the fewest in the NFL. I’m by no means sorry to see Bill gone but isn’t it interesting that when was here and running more the Texans had some winning records but when he was gone and we shut down the run game we only won four games…but didn’t DW’s numbers shine!

They were almost always playing from behind. That’s why the running attempts went down. Secondly the linemen wasn’t opening up holes for the running backs to run through. We were horrible in run pro.

All true but I still think there was more to it. Texans never seemed to make an effort at running and keeping the defense off the field. And their passing game as far as I can remember from watching a few games didn’t help with clock management. You can’t get to DW’s passing yards 4-5 yards a toss. I think there is a very obvious reason NC and DC are putting every effort in re-installing emphasis on the run game and balancing the offense. Shoot Baller how many times have I read on this board that DW holds onto the ball too long and why aren’t they running shorter crossing routes?

Here's another interesting thing about Billy O. When Watson was here he had a winning record. Without Watson he had a losing record no matter how much he ran the ball.

O'Brien's Regular season record

With Watson:
24-17 .585

Without Watson:
28-31 .475

Another odd fact about O'Brien the rushing game guru is that no matter how much he believed in running the ball he only had 2 backs besides Foster (who he inherited not picked) that had a thousand yard season.

2019: Carlos Hyde 245 Att, 1070 Yards, 4.4 Avg, 6 Tds
2018: Lamar Miller 210 Att, 973 Yards, 4.6 Avg, 5 Tds
2017: Lamar Miller 238 Att, 888 Yards, 3.7 Avg, 3 Tds
2016: Lamar Miller 268 Att, 1,073 Yards, 4.0 Avg, 5 Tds
2015: Alfred Blue 183 Att, 698 Yards, 3.8 Avg, 2 Tds
2014: Arian Foster 260 Att, 1,246 Yards, 4.8 Avg, 8 Tds

Not to defend him, but to be fair he was 27-21 (.562) before Watson got here.

He did have a better overall team then before he started tearing that down to the nothing that it ended up being.
