Texans random thought of the day

Yup. Not a peep about misbehavior or not getting along until his release. I'm suspicious it was all disinformation.

OTOH, this is a regime that's all about keeping things in-house and not airing their dirty laundry. This is a team and especially a head coach who gives his players a line about "being the best team-mate" they can be and expects them to answer as many questions as possible with it.

I'm not surprised there wasn't a lot of negative stuff flying around about Mallett until he was on his way out.

I don't think they're tight lipped. I think they are controlled info. The whole situation with X smacks the same way. One day they're writing articles on how thru dedication he has transformed his body. The next he's a slob. That was airing dirty laundry...supposedly. Leak to suit the team.

First round playoff salary for division winners is $25,000. Most of the Texans players will earn that, some (like first year players on IR) will earn half of that. Everyone on the roster except practice squad should be eligible (excluding David Quessenberry).

So the old Dallas Texans are coming to play the, what, 3rd or 4th (?), iteration of a team called the Texans in the playoffs. There's a joke or some deep hidden meaning in that somewhere.

Would you say they were in the HUNT?

ps If you're under 50, you probably have no clue.

I am actually in the process of finding all the names of pro football teams named Texans

Dallas Texans 1952 folded
Dallas Texans 1960 now the Chiefs
WFL Houston Texans
NFL Houston Texans

I am thinking there is still one more, but I can't find it.

.

Try the Dallas Texans Arena Football League team (1990-1993).

Isn't there a football game today? Just sayin'
I'm told that several football games broke out in multiple locations across the country. I played golf so I didn't witness any of these supposed events.

I was thinking the WFL team in Houston was the Gamblers and coached by Jack Pardee and the run n' shoot rather than the Texans. Was there a USFL team in Houston?

Interesting trivia to no one other than me...the coach of my High School (Jim Crossland) was on the coaching staff of the Chicago Fire of the WFL. It was a jump from High School to the Pros at Defensive Coordinator.

Yes, the USFL team was the Gamblers with Pardee and Jim Kelly.

Thanks. I was most certain about the Chicago Fire connection and somehow got the Houston entries into the two leagues confused. We've always done better as startups in new leagues in Houston.

We are in NFL purgatory. A defense that can hold its own yet withno offense that can do squat. We all knew this going into the playoffs. Meanwhile with such a crappy offense it will be interesting to see how we can handle the draft and find some playmakers on the offensive side of the ball

Didn't see this anywhere, so I thought I'd put it here:

A familiar name pops up.

Houston Texans Trying to Land Anthony Weaver

Cleveland Browns defensive line coach Anthony Weaver is a potential match for the current opening on the Houston Texans staff.

With Paul Pasqualoni stepping down as the Houston Texans defensive line coach, attention has now turned to Cleveland Browns defensive line coach Anthony Weaver. Weaver also played for the Houston Texans from 2006-2008 before heading to the college coaching ranks.
Weaver has coached at the Universtiy of Florida (graduate assistant), University of North Texas (linebackers), New York Jets (assistant defensive line coach), Buffalo Bills (defensive line coach) and the Browns for the past two season. He has worked for some top coaches in the profession in Urban Meyer, Rex Ryan, Doug Marrone and Mike Pettine.
There is some reason to believe, with Weaver's name emerging, the focus will be on landing him for the 2016 coaching staff as the new defensive line coach.

If Weaver does come to Houston, it will mark the thrid defensive line coach for the Texans under Bill O'Brien in three seasons.

Another name that might warrant some consideration (not for D-line or LB coach though) is Eric Mangini. If Vrabel takes the Niners offer, I assume he becomes available (and he might be available anyway). His background is more Defensive backs (although he actually spent a year as the Niners TE coach), but he's got a relationship with Crennel, and I'm wondering if there might be a use for him on the Texans staff.

You weren't interested in his coaching experience?
Well, if that's what you were attempting to do, it seems kind of incomplete seeing as he's also coached with the Jets, the Bills, and a couple of places in college. Pointing out his current (at the time) position never occurred to me to be an attempt to identify his coaching experience.

Interesting. I didn't see that he coached with any team other than Cleveland.

The Houston Texans have met with offensive lineman Joe Thuney at the East-West Shrine Game.

The Houston Texans have met with offensive lineman Joe Thuney at the East-West Shrine game. Thuney played offensive tackle for the Wolfpack in 2015 and garnered first-team All American honors from USA Today, which marked the first offensive lineman to be selected as an All-American since 1979.

Thuney was also named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection at the end of the 2015 season. The 6-5 and 295 lbs. offensive lineman finished ACC play without giving up a sack the entire season. A first-team Academic All-ACC performer in 2014, Thuney was the first Wolfpack offensive lineman to earn first-team all-conference honors since 2003.

Thuney played both guard and tackle for the Wolfpack giving him the versatility that the Texans like to see in their players.

Going OL is so basic and safe. This team needs more playmakers on offense.

Yes. If that Arkansas TE is there in the first, I think we should take him. Find a stud RB and burner WR in the second & third

4th & 5th on QBs like Kevin Hogan, Brandon Allen

Unless the Texans think there's a franchise QB to be had earlier in the draft.

Ughh. No way he is worth a first round pick. This TE class sucks. We need to bring in a decent FA.

I find it odd that the same people who have no faith in a QB who has flashed talent, has all the measurables and shown improvement all seem to want to draft, with many wanting to trade up in the 1st round, a completely unproven rookie and roll the dice just because "you have to draft a QB in the 1st round". I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the septic tank. :brickwall:

Are you talking about Savage? Flashed/shown improvement lol - he has 19 attempts.
