Texans Playoff Picture

The Titans just played a heck of a game Monday night. I bet they win at least one more game before it's over.

They got Philly this week, then us. Then Giants, Jets, Jags, Colts.

They could beat us... they'll probably beat the Giants, Jets, & Jags. I hope they can put one together & beat the Colts as well.

You are extremely positive which is a good thing in my opinion.

Saying that, this team isn't winning out.

I picked them to go 10-6 at the beginning of the year. It all rides on the Cincy game.

I had us losing to Baltimore and still getting in, BUT we MUST beat Indy when we play them. Colts need to go down.

I got the Colts losing to the Browns (hopefully they'll be better with Josh Gordon), Texans, & Cowboys, finishing 9-7.

We lose to the Titans, but finish 10-6.

Just ran a scenario without any cherrypicking where we finish 5-1, dropping week 15 at Indy.

Indy finishes first at 11-5. We finish 10-6 and grab a wild card with tiebreakers over Cleveland & Miami.

Actually seems encouraging given how bleak things were pre-6'7" savior.

I had us winning all the games left and had the Colts lose to us and the Browns, which would explain why the Texans would be hosting the Colts here at NRG.
So our record would be 11-5 and theirs would be 10-6.
:koolaid:

Boy, the Kool-Aid's flowing around here after one game with the new QB. Does he look the part? Sure, but there have been many QBs start their 1st game, ball out then eventually **** the bed.

I was thinking 7-9 before the season started. I think we have a good chance to surpass that to 8-8, but playoffs? Nah

I'm not even certain I'm cautiously optimistic. Maybe cautiously cautious

I'm optimistic about Mallett, but it's more of a long-term optimism.

I'm still keeping in mind where this team came from, so anything 7-9 or better is an improvement with new coaching staff.

Not that I won't be stoked if they start stringing some wins together! If they beat the Bengals, I think there is a chance they could be 8-5 when they face Indy, especially considering how the Jags and Titans have looked this season.

When the season started, I was actually thinking 9-7 with a shot at the play offs. It's a weak schedule.

What I had hoped for was whatever it takes to get in. whether that's 10-6 or 11-5. I like how OB made the QB change because we were starting to fall too far behind the Colts.

Colts remaining schedule is fairly weak. Even if we win the next 3, all is moot if we don't beat the Colts. When was the last time we beat the Colts in Indy again?

Colts remaining schedule:
Jags
Redskins
Browns
Texans
Cowboys
titans

Prior to the season starting, I was expecting 6-10 this season.

Now? We're 5-5 with 3 games coming up against the Titans and Jags. The Titans and Jags are going to play us hard and they're going to be difficult to beat but I expect us to beat them.

I'm already psyched about how well the team has played and I expect us to end up at least 8-8, which is 2 games better than I expected.

But.

I'm also really psyched about Mallett. I won't deny that. I think he gives us that final piece we needed. Besides winning those games against the Titans and Jags, I expect us to win at least 2 of the other three games on our schedule.

So I'm kinda expecting 10-6 at this point and I think 11-5 is possible Am I drinking the kool-aid? Yeah, but so what. That's why I'm a fan. It's mid/late-November and we're in the hunt for a playoff spot. Having hope and getting excited is what it's all about.

Kinda like the Bengals are due, huh? :winky:

No! The Bengals aren't due! They have a soulless ginger Romulan as QB. Their franchise has at least been to Super Bowls in their history...granted, 30 years go, and they lost...but still....

Honestly, if this team finished 8-8 but beat the Colts at Indy, I'd consider it a solid season, all things considered.

Hopefully the NFC east is still hanging in the balance by week 16 and the Cowboys smack the Colts around. I don't wanna root for the Cowboys though. *slits wrists*

I will become the biggest Cowboys fan on earth if we need that game.

Hard to say I'd be rooting for Dallas.

Assuming that game becomes hugely pivotal I'll be rooting for both teams to projectile **** their respective beds, with Indy managing to get that extra necessary drizzle or so on the floor that ultimately helps our cause.

I could care less about the last time. I'm talking about the next time (even if it is the first time :hide:)

Agreed. Not looking pretty for us. But hopefully that good Browns team that was supposed to play us show up. Then the Cowboys. & maybe they take the Titans lightly... who knows?

My hope coming into the season was that we'd be playing the Jags & they'd be playing the Titans for the division lead.

I think 10-6 and missing the playoffs might be the best the Texans can do at this point. If Mallett does pan out, it will lead to a lot of woulda coulda shouldas about a couple of the earlier losses.

This is what I'm thinking, too. We won't win the division & KC probably gets one wild card, so there's only 1 spot left. The problem is Cincinnati's tie game may as well be a win. If we lose the tie-breaker against Pittsburgh, we need them to win the division. So we really have to win out to get in... and this is only against the North; haven't even looked at San Diego & Miami yet.

That division is going to beat each other up.

I would be more worried about Miami.

If the Texans go 10-6 they will get in.

I went through the playoff machine a few different times, picking teams different ways, and there are still several scenarios that allow us to get in even if we lose more than a game or two. I saw one scenario where we got in at 9-7 in the 6th seed.

Miami is going to lose at least 2 more conference games, perhaps 4

You're right about that division. The problem is we're 1 1/2 games behind Cincinnati; may as well be 2 games. Plus we need Pittsburgh to win the division. I haven't even looked at Miami yet. We'll need help & lots of luck in other games to get in :)

I don't tend to look at the now situation.

The Texans can only control themselves.

If they win 5 more games, they will get in.

Cincy has an absolute killer schedule. They aren't getting in if they lose to the Texans.

Texans control their own destiny. If the Texans win out and we end up with the same win loss total the Texans win the division. We have a 4-2 in conference record and the Colts are 5-3.

Common opponents comes before conference record, and we'll lose that one unless Indy really turns to ****

Whole lot of koolaid in here based on one start for Mallett. I'm mildly optimistic we can eek out 9-7, but playoffs is a little bit of crazy talk.

That playoff machine is pretty cool. I like the Texans chances if they can go 10-6.

The first time I went through, I had them win out and go 11-5 (on purpose), with the other games having "reasonable" results in my opinion. That had the Texans as the #2 seed.

Then I had them lose to the Colts and go 10-6. There was a 3 way 10-6 tie with the Texans somehow winning he tie break. Messing with the results, there were other 10-6 3 way tie scenarios that the Texans would win. The key is the BAL game in these situations.

9-7 is going to be tough to get in, but still possible if they get lucky with other results.

What's wrong with crazy? This team has found a spark. Another win against a winning team this Sunday can build momentum. And football is a game of momentum.

Colts can still lose to Dallas and texans. Browns have an outside chance of beating them as well. Plus you never write off the division foes even tough they are bad.

We need to worry about ourselves. Beat cincy this Sunday and then we will can talk again.

I don't mean to be this guy:

The Texans have no chance this year at anything, other than maybe, "MAYBE being 8-8, 9-7 (at best)".

That said, they're not that far off.

On the right track again?

Hopefully going in the correct direction this time

You've got it. The Texans have to win the 2 Jags games and the Titans. Then 2of 3 of the Bengals, Colts, and Ravens games. Not out of the question.

If we beat the Colts in Indianapolis, I will be happy with any record we finish with. This team needs to put that behind them.

We just have to beat other teams in AFC. Already took take care of CLE, definitely need to beat CIN and BAL. hopefully OAK beats KC today and helps us out. We have to get lucky and win our games to get to playoffs.

Consider 2009: The Texans with a 9-7 ending record were 1-5 in their division that year, and yet still somehow managed to be in the hunt for the #6 seed until the final NFL game of the season (Jets/Colts) was played. Next game will be crucial.

FYI, common opponents comes before conference record. I was in error in another thread when I had them switched.

The difference is WITHIN THE DIVISION

Tie beaker for wildcard is slightly different and may be the source for your confusion.
